He is INCREDIBLE. What a soothingly, deep and mysterious sexy voice. Sounds just how the Phantom should - a voice that truly can lure Christine. And Kaley is perfection as usual!

He's AMAZING. I watched him two weeks ago and he nails every beat. Then the final ten minutes come and he blows everyone's mind.

James Barbour is one of the best phantoms I heard, hes behind Peter Joback, Earl Carpenter and Colm Wilkinson. Can't wait seeing him with the school band in New York in May.

@Andrew Dominick He certainly is, and I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to see the musical a few times while he was Phantom and he impressed me every time. Believe it or not, he’s also one of my Dad’s friends from High School not to mention that I’ve actually met him personally as a result and in the process we got a backstage tour which is something you can only do if you know someone in the cast of a particular broadway musical to my knowledge.

My Dad went to high school with James Barbour many many years ago not to mention that they both became friends in that process. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this musical while James was the Phantom and he blew me away every time. I never would have guessed that my Dad would go to high school and become friends with someone who would go on to be famous and become the star of a broadway musical for that matter

My first Phantom was Michael Crawford. Also seen: Howard McGillin several times, John Cudia, Hugh Panaro several times, Jeremy Stolle, James Romick, and Norm Lewis. Haven't yet seen James Barbour, but I believe the role of Erik should be a tenor.

Nobody compares to Hugh Panaro, IMO, but I have to admit, he sounds really good. Kaley sounds exactly as Christine should-youthful, and clear-as-a-bell.

I LOVE James Barbour's voice. In this particular performance, he phoned it in. Compare his work with Gary Mauer, who is a tenor, as the Phantom. There is no comparison with the emotional inflection. Everyone has their favorite "Erik". I had high hopes for Mr. Barbour as the Phantom as he's a baritone. Perhaps another recording on a different day. Sad really. He has a wonderful baritone voice and I so loved him in "Tales of Two Cities."

There's got to be the official album of this cast - it's got to be made! At least James Barbour as the Phantom shouldn't be changed.

About a year or so ago, I saw Phantom of the Opera in NY with Norm Lewis and Sierra Bogess as the Phantom and Christine. I had heard seldom recordings of James Barbour, but have heard nice reports about his performance. I watched this and though, "I want to see this again." Even though I actually am excited to be seeing it this summer on tour, I would love to see this in NY again. Barbour is fantastic.

Same! I think it's because it's the only song in the show that has a rocky sound to it, if you know what I mean. Lots of electric guitar and an 80's drum machine beat. Strange. But, I love it.

Symbolism or not, it's the first thing Webber wrote before his friends and colleagues convinced him not to made a rock opera out of the entire show. Look up the original promo video with Steve Harley and thank Cameron Mackintosh that's not what we ended up with.
