The spanking parents seem to be some of the worst about this. When Jo points out that it obviously isn't effective and isn't changing the kids' behavior, they'll get defensive and be in such denial about it.

I would have pettily said, "no because that's talking back". She wants what she has to say (i.e. an opinion) to matter, but others don't get that privilege in her world. If it's her, it's just an opinion; if it's anyone else, it's "talking back" and she won't have any of it.

There are ways to speak your mind without being disrespectful. I don't think these kids were taught that. I used to teach middle school and those kids were the most disrespectful and rudest children. It was obvious they were not disciplined. Kids have to be taught and shown these things from day one. Hope I didn't just ramble lol

Each family has their own set of rules when it comes to junk food and toys. Personally, junk food should not be given unless it's snack time. And in small portions. Chocolate for example should not be an option until after dinner.
@lessehead
@lessehead 4 жыл бұрын
cooladult18 Why should snacks be junk? I gave my kids fruit, cheese and crackers, mozzarella sticks, Greek yogurt, toasted mini pizzas on English muffin halves, celery and peanut butter, raw veggies with hummus, nuts, smoothies, etc. They drank milk, water, or juice watered down to one fourth juice and the rest water. I never had cookies or candy in the house, and they never missed them.

Parents often use spanking because no real rules or discipline have ever been put in place, so they get frustrated and use spanking. If you have RULES from DAY ONE, You won't need to use spanking. I have never needed, had to or even threatened to use spanking with my kids.

If parents use violence to solve problems and challenge disrespect, the children will use violence to solve problems and challenge disrespect with violence. There's a reason research shows that kids who were spanked as kids were more likely to display antisocial behaviour in adulthood, as well as other issues like poor mental health and lower IQ than non spanked kids.
