Philippine Tax: just recently, the govt approved the Tax reform law (TRAIN Law) and prices of goods, except for the needs, are affected negatively but worker’s salary (earning over the minimum wage) has gone up significantly as taxes are lowered down. People living in the cemetery: every cemetery has caretakers. The caretakers has houses, although not very decent, they have their basic needs. WW2 monument: this was in Bataan and it’s famous in the Philippines for the “Bataan Death March”. Each kilometer of the Trail has a maker providing the details of the death march. This was during the Japanese Era. Philippines has been colonized by Spain for 333 year, then sold to the Americans, then we have japanese colonists during the WW2. He’s got a point. Disregard the politics, the distance, and the traffic in the metro like MetroManila, Cebu, and Davao, Philippines is and amazing country full of beautiful. Every single island has to offer. Every region has specific delicacies and pride. Travel attractions vary from place to place. You’ll never ran out of things to do. I’m from the Philippines but I think I only visited 20-30% of the islands. Haha!

Looking forward to your visit! NAS has learned to love so much the Philippines and it's people that he exaggerates some things. In my opinion, around ten percent of Filipinos can't speak English and the other ninety percent UNDERSTANDS English. Of this 90%, around 60% are not speaking the language fluently only conversationally and 40% are fluent speakers. As in all other countries, bad or shameless people lurk around possible victims. But one thing for sure, the Philippines is the most hospitable country in the whole world. Have a nice day!

A bit of info hope you'd read it: There are taxes in the Philippines, of course. But behind all this gorgeous "loving, fun" facade, Philippines (like all countries) have a dark side. The government can be corrupt, the taxes don't go where they're supposed to go, and people find ways to circumvent around policies to minimize taxes that they're supposed to pay. This is one of the reason why it's so hard to progress as a country in the Philippines into something beyond a third world. It has immense potential, but attempts to even unlock it is BLOCKED by the very own government voted by the people so that they can benefit off of the taxes people pay. There ARE public cemeteries here, but most are private. These burial tenders are basically hitting two birds with one stone because this is the place where they live, as well as where they get their money for sustenance. It's a sad reality here.

I just don't see the point of dwelling on the bad and the 'dark side' when we should be boosting people's love for OUR COUNTRY. Philippines is beautiful. It's not perfect, but beautiful. Philippines' 'loving, fun' image is NOT a facade. Philippines is a loving/fun country regardless of the struggles and challenges it's facing. Corruption in the government isn't the only reason why progress is slow. It's also because of the people who refuses to accept and welcome change. We complain instead of cooperating. We blame the government because it's easier than to accept the brutal truth that we all need to change some of our ways collectively as country people. I'm not extremely satisfied of the government either but I don't think pointing fingers will change a thing. But I agree that the Philippines has immense potential. But just 'talks' and no 'walks' won't help the progress. We, as Filipinos, have a lot to work on. And let's be positive and happy while we're at it. :)

You should try visiting cemeteries in the Philippines during holloween season. People used spend 2 days stayinh in the cemetery overnight. It's like a camping site full of great food and happy people.

Christmas here in the Philippines is also fun...from the start or the “ber” months filipinos would start bringing out christmas decorations, from homes, streets and malls. Then by december, kids would go house to house to sing Christmas songs. Then early mornings what we call “simbang gabi” we go to church and attend mass for 9 mornings(and this would be around 4 am, depends on the churches), before Christmas day. And by Christmas night its party time, from food, gifts, to parlor games and videoke.
