Excellent video!!! and so true regarding Big Ed. Not only one of the great Phillies of all time, but arguably the greatest player of the 19th century. If that doesn't deserve a P plaque IDK what does. Phillies brass always gets it wrong, Delahanty crushes Klein.. Phillies traded Klein away after he hit for the triple crown. lol. Shows you how much they know..... Love my Fightin's either way. Go Phils..

You make a very COMPELLING argument for Ed to be included on the Wall!

Thank you for watching! Delahanty actually has a plaque on the Wall of Fame. What he lacks is the equivalent of a retired number, which is what the Phillies did for Alexander and Klein.

Ed Delahanty was awesome. Just took an ill-fated trip to Buffalo, NY.

I completely agree. I wonder why Billy Hamilton and Sam Thompson are not equally honored. The Phillies also have ignored on their Wall of Fame several HOF players who played over 5 years with the PHillies including Nap Lajoie, Elmer Flick and Dave Bancroft, who went into the HOF as a Phillie.

Thank you for watching. All of what you say is true. Have you been inside the Hall of Fame Club? At least there they have portraits of Lajoie and Bancroft. But Flick is mysteriously left out.

Great channel. I’m a Red Sox fan. I live in RI. Home of Nap Lajoie. However; above all I’m a baseball history fan and therefore a baseball fan in the sense of Americana appreciation. This is a damn fine channel.

You are 100% correct regarding the need to honor Ed Delahanty. But I think he has slipped into obscurity, and no one cares. Sad.

Thank you so much for watching, and for your comment. You are correct. Few people today care about Klein, let alone Ed Delahanty. In fact, I think Fred Luderus is more deserving of a plaque on the Wall of Fame than many of the more modern Phillies who have one. But fans like us who appreciate the team's rich history are few and far between.

@@PhiladelphiaBaseballHistory I always thought Sam Thompson was another candidate, given his long tenure in Philadelphia. And he’s certainly a much better roll model.

@@rjcollectssets1839 Fair comment. Thompson is certainly overlooked by modern fans. When I was doing research on the Phillies in the Hall of Fame, I was shocked at how long it too to get Thompson his plaque in Cooperstown.

When we used to have season tickets in the late 2000’s early 2010’s they gave us a free media guide, Delahanty’s name was all over the Phillies records pages and nobody knew who he was. He absolutely deserves to have a P retired fur him, the only problem is not many people know who he is, they’d have to start some kind of media campaign to get it moving in that direction, and there’s more than enough content to do that.
@PhiladelphiaBaseballHistory
@PhiladelphiaBaseballHistory 3 жыл бұрын
I loved those media guides! As a kid, we had the Sunday season ticket plan in 1980. I remember when my dad went down to pick ours up, and just being enthralled as I scrolled through the pages.

The Cardinals just put Charles Comiskey in their HOF. I know Cardinal BB but had no idea he played here 9yrs in the 1880's, even stealing 117 bases in 87'. My point is there needed be a campaign to get a great/influential/HOF player from your team onto that wall, just somebody from mgt to recognize them. Frankly I'm surprised ED isn't on there.

100% there should be a retired “P”. I’ve been saying the for years. I’d also do the same for Harry Wright, Sam Thompson and Billy Hamilton. The Ps for Klein and Alexander have been placed in the OF in the outfield only in the last couple years. I’ve often complained the Phillies don’t tout their history and players much before 1950.

I have been lifelong Phillies Phan, and was thrilled by the 2022 W Series. Bryce Harper , in my opinion has made the starting lineup on the All Time Phillies. Here is my starting lineup...SP's. Alexander, Robin Roberts, Jim Bunning, Carlton, Schilling, Cole Hamels and Halladay

...RP's JKonstanty, Ron Reed & Gene Garber & Tug McGraw ( the best group bullpen of the 70s that You Never Heard Of) 1B Ryan Howard, 2B a tough call between Chase Utley and Nap Lajoie, SS Jimmy Rollins, 3B Schmidt ( who else) LF Sherry Magee/ Ed Delahanty, CF Richie Ashburn & Garry (the Secretary of Defense) Maddox RF Bryce Harper C is so close between Boone ( durable/consistent, a pretty fair bat& outstanding defense) Dalton, when finally healthy enough to play regularly was a fine hitter, plus team leadership, and JT Realmuto ( all-around great)...Honorable Mention.. Richard Allen , an outstanding hitter,truly, who ( like Bobby Bonds) should/could be in the HOF , CF Lenny Dykstra (93 Phillies ! ) RF Del Ennis & Johnny Callison ( both great hitters) SS Larry Bowa & Granny Hamner, also P Curt Simmons & RF Chuck Klein ( a great hitter, even though he got help from the ballpark) plus Greg ( The Bull ) Luzinski , another hitter to great to leave off the roster..I'm sure there are some I have missed plus other players who were great during their time with Phillies .. what do you other Phillies Phans think of the list ..? Please comment.. Thanks😁

Delahanty’s inclusion along with the other Phillies who have had their numbers retired (or the letter P) has been long overdue. I wonder if that has anything to do with how his life ended. However considering we had Pete Rose at the ballpark last weekend and in the broadcast booth talking about horse testicles the Phillies don’t have a leg to stand on if that has anything to do with it. Yes the 1890s were an era for huge offensive numbers but Ed was still far ahead of what most players were doing at the time. This should be a slam dunk but considering how long ago it was I guess it won’t sell a few extra tickets like having Pete Rose at the ballpark for a celebration of the 1980 team does. Which reminds me next year is the 30th anniversary of the 1993 team’s incredible run so does this mean we get Nails at the ballpark? I hope he gets to go up to “The Lounge” and get on the air for an inning with John Kruk.
