This is a great revisit on red. I look forward to green. My view on red is complicated. It seemed unappealing to me at first. It was my least favorite color. The gameplay of monored is doesn't suite my play style. It is irritating to finish off the game so quick when I am on the reviving end of aggro. The emotions of red philosophy didn't appeal to me either. I was thinking that in order to follow ones heart, they would have to turn off their brain. However that is probably too mean. My main color is blue, and it has been since the time I first got into MTG. I am a geek, and cold logic is definitely my thing to some extent. Red seemed unappealing at first, because I fit in on of it's enemy colors. However when I dive into color philosophy red grows on me. It still isn't my monocolor. However it is part of my personality if more than one color is involved. Red has freedom. That part is awesome. I like to be free to do my own thing. I am just not all touchy feely about that. I hate being bogged down by freedom and organization. One great thing about blue is a progressive and innovative mindset. I do like that too. That can mix with the spark of red freedom to form creativity. I am an artist. I enjoy being creative in making new art. Intellogence and creativity are my greatest strengths. So my pair is Izzet. I am fond with the Izzet guild on Ravnica because that is the first plane I played with in MTG. Later on I found the Prismatic of Strixhaven. They are even more like me, because they are artists. That is awesome. Then when I watch the DiceTry videos, I found a third color, white. White is red's other enemy color. It doesn't seem all that appealing to me at first. Yet it did grow on me. There are two things about white I like. One is that there is a spiritual nature. The other is a sense of community and doing good for others. I am even willing to have more order in government if it means that people don't get hurt. I think the economy should have more regulation as well as a social safety net. As for how the government works, I can really see the benefits of both sides and prefer something in between. However the politics can get harsh and polarizing. If I do get press, I would say it is better to make sure everyone has enough to get by, even if the rich has to sacrifice their money to more taxes. It is not like the rich with risk hunger or exposure any time soon. So their wellbeing shouldn't be a priority. White can go with the others to form Jeskai. That is my combo of three colors. I like to use my creativity to benefit others. I like to use deep themes to show people a better way to live. I also like the part about finding new spiritual ideas by testing them. The Jeskai video is one of my favorite on the channel. It is so moving. So red is not very good on its own. However if it is combined with both of it's enemy colors, that would make gold.

Damn almost cry in this video. This remind me of another video I saw and stuck with me. The video was about life in general and how to be happy I guess or how to be sucessefull, I honestly do not remember BUT .I remember that video cause the guy said "don´t just do everthing you love but put all of your love on everthing you do" and honeslty that stuck with me and helped see life in other ways and find enjoyment even in the most simple and boring tasks like my job . See I work in a retail customer service but I did study to be an illustrator and when I finish Uni and could not find a job at the are I felt like a failure. Now I am happy that I have a job that is not that tired and allows me to keep working on my projects and on myself. I learn to do stuff cause I LIKE THEM and not because I need to prove something to someone.

I very much have red at my core, though it is hampered by both blue and white on my peripheries... there is nothing more brilliant to me then seeing the passion in others doing stuff they love... and while that is very Red, through white and blue I try to focus on how I can help encourage people to their passions and keep things working well enough so they and I can do so without having to worry about others... Playing the bureaucrat and mediator is not a glorious job, but it is a vital one if longevity is desired.

Going forward with color theory, I'm wondering if you could either come up with a series surrounding the philosophy of land and how they either relate to the colors they are aligned with, are utilized for magic or even the summoning of beings. Aside from water motifs what makes blue tied to islands and black for swamps? Another idea is mana and color cost. Just what makes a person or a spell cost 3 or 4 mana or what it might pertain to distinguish the difference between a 2 mana creature of 2 red or a 2 mana creature of 1 red and 1 colorless.

I also agree with your approach regarding the negative aspects of colours, the video providing a true and raw explanation of what the colour is all about, and if it resonates with you, you might not question it too much, but if it clashes, you'll surely hear the negatives as well, just simply through the voice of one who believes that to be an ideal.

It seems like red either doesn't recognize fear as an emotion, or if it does then it seems to recognize a strict hierarchy of emotions that align with a given goal. The more value red gives to happiness the more territory it would cede to a white or a blue insofar as when we have definite values (especially definite emotional values) we start to introduce speculations about what they are and how to best attain them. But then if we do introduce fear and everything that follows from it then it gets hard to separate a red mode of action from any other. But perhaps I'm expecting red to be too consistent.

well. i’m pretty much mono red. i’d say i’m a very niche type of red. i’m a religious person, but not boros. i don’t like organization, stricture rules, and sometimes constantly thinking about morals (i have OCD scrupulosity) makes life so bogged down with restraint and thinking. often people will see any religious person who wants the good of others in their heart as automatically white-aligned or at least white-inclusive, but fail to see that all of the colors can find themselves in a setting that serves one color’s goals while still being themselves. in a white-aligned society, blue can focus its progressive-attitude towards into improving public technology for a better communal life, but that doesn’t make them blue-white, they just are doing blue things in a white-aligned way because of their setting and when they aren’t in that setting, they can focus their natural “mentality” on things they would normally focus on. so for me, i’m pure red, but still a zealous person for my faith. i’m ye taken me a while to see the difference as i’ve been heavily conflicted on if i’m forced to feel white-aligned and try to associate myself with that mentality since i cared about my faith when i didn’t like the other aspects of the color

Something that kept comming up for me : I disagree that impulsive action is the purest form of the self. In fact, I would say that the way we choose to mold our own desires to accommodate larger goals, both personal and collective, lead to a truer expression of the self. It is a (somewhat) fabricated identity, one that takes into account not only what comes to use in the moment but also the bigger picture of who we are and want to be. Then again, my colors are Blue and Green so of course I can't be satisfied with impulse !
@DiceTry

@Tomrash

I think there is some of that even in that initial impulse. We all act differently even if we just follow our gut. As a Red/Blue, my initial gut reaction is either "I immediately need to know more, what does google say?" or "I need to try this NOW, so I can learn from it" - only further contemplation would reveal that there is something more importent for me to do right now or that someone else probably already has the answer... The more Red/White reaction would probably be something like "What immediate reaction, following the rules, can I take?" or "Time for righteous vengeance!". And Red/Green "Okay, let everybody know how I feel about this!" or "How can I use my physical skills to solve this?".

Often explanations of red philosophy include the phrase "follow your heart". Now to me this seems to be an apparent metaphor, for I do not suppose anybody believes that our heart is going to pop out of our chests and lead the way, but it seems to be the sort of metaphor that is never used to give further explanation to some point that can be stated plainly but always appears by itself. To "follow one's emotions" is almost worse, but to my mind the only explanation is that it is a matter of emotional custom. I mean to say that on the one hand there are the customs that people have generally as a group for instance, but then also there are the customary actions that follow from certain sensations. It may be custom in one society to be married off by one's parents for profit, but beside that one may remember a story of some youth who after feeling a particularly strong sensation acted in a manner contrary to the general custom, and by being taught (whether fiction or no) this becomes the emotional custom. And it may even become common to say things like "if he truly loved her he would have pursued her instead of marrying another for status" so that the word "love" becomes bound to action, and so then when the proper actions do not follow it is no longer "love" but "lust" or "passing fancy". And likewise for when we say some person acted on anger. A person who considers their emotions then acts on the custom associated with that emotion, and we evaluate others based on that custom. For a person who simply acts cannot be said to be "guided" in any sense, but we judge them and ourselves as such. For the same judgements of emotional custom apply to us too. After further thought I would also like to add that strictly speaking we only encounter "first reactions" within set restrictions; as in we could speak of a first reaction of a game of magic, this reaction being part of the ever flowing stream of a life. Furthermore the examples we draw on for our emotional customs (though in a sense fictional insofar as the person does not appear a second time in our thoughts) also has their own customs. So it is not meant to be a theory applied to the "very first actions (assuming such a thing can be made sense of but I leave that aside for now. This certainly may seem like splitting hairs, but I would also like to add that when we contrast "acting on first reaction" and "not acting on first reaction" as we have to in order to make sense of the concept, we need a special sense of the term reaction. Typically a reaction is some kind of action in response to another, as in I react to wasteland by tapping my land, but then in this sense to not act on your first reaction would be a contradiction; it would be like saying that you do not do the first thing you do. Reaction here must be in some sense future oriented, as in a thought. Though for my part I think the distinction here needed between first and second reactions is, even taken in this sense,muddled and confusing.

Red aligns a lot with humanity. You should always listen to your instincts and humanity is an emotional people, but we try to be logical because in order to improve as a people we need to be able to self reflect and contemplate. Sometimes those impulses don't make any sense and are at times contrary to your well being. To be ruled by your emotions means to be lead by outside stimuli and that isn't freedom at all. Thus instinct must be met with logic so that we may understand what our heart is saying.
