So I was writing an essay and went on Jonny May's channel for some background music. Later, youtube autoplays this video and I tell myself "daam! Jonny made another masterpiece". So I look at my screen and see this madman playing with a blindfold on....I tore my essay

So, obviously the whole thing is impressive, but at 1:52 he takes his left hand off the keyboard and then nails the next note after a short pause. I get that he can feel the keys to know where his hands are while playing, but this is just magic
@Charmien6 жыл бұрын
Do you remember where keys are based on muscle memory from where you normally sit or when your hand grazes notes you feel where they are on the scale? I play piano but I do stuff by ear not by sight reading so I’m almost always looking at my fingers
@mystified23565 жыл бұрын
Charmien usually muscle memory for me, no time to feel around for key patterns while playing a piece

Charmien I do a little bit of all three

I haven't played piano in a long time, but you start off staring at the keys... As you get more time in and keep practicing, you only glance down to make sure that large movements land where you need them... But just like touch typing on a typewriter/keyboard, with enough time and practice, you're pretty much set, so long as the keyboard you're using is sized the same. As a typist, my speed always suffers slightly when I use a keyboard that is slightly larger or smaller because my muscles are tuned to my keyboard's size. I suspect that pianos are far more standardized, though electronic keyboards might have more variation.

AndaraBledin always embarrassing when someone asks you to do something using their computer and you’re sitting there failing to type at normal speeds and CTRL+Backspacing every second and a half!

How Jonny, how???? Unreal! The first time I ever heard this piece was from Dave Grusin in The Fabulous Baker Boys. You're in my favorite room with the digital piano and the perfect camera angle.

Very nice rendition of the song, Jonny! Not sure what you're trying to demonstrate with the blindfold, though. I'd bet anyone who plays piano at your level could do that, no way you can play like that if you have to look where your fingers are going.

I just wish I could play that well even LOOKING at the keys. Pretty much like touch typing, though. I just found out my storage unit was broken into, where my keyboard and such was stored. I'm hoping it wasn't stolen, but I really don't have the money for gas and tolls to go check. I hate being unemployed and homeless. Anyway, okay, Lullabye of Birdland was a great choice, now let's see you do Trane's 'Giant Steps!'
