The professional like you can go to any jam session and be comfortable knowing that they’re going to know most of the songs. Great video. I wouldn’t have minded if you played the whole song of each tune.

Great. If only you could be cloned. The only problem is that at most jam sessions I go to you only hear far less than the same ten tunes called. A number of reasons I would suggest. The narrow view of jazz schools teaching. Notable exception: Joan Chamorro in Barcelona. Also too, the decline in gigs at weddings, events, etc. You cannot do such bookings without a repertoire of jazz standards. No such gigs. So, no incentive to learn them. At a recent jam session neither the pianist or the drummer had a clue about the structure, or knowledge of, Milestones (New version) How can you be a student at a jazz conservatory and be unaware of one of the most seminal albums of the twentieth century. Somewhat depressing.

And your rhythmic sense is just...[chef's kiss]. I stood throughout the entire video and was on the edge of my seat (umm...even though I was standing...LOL). There are 15 tunes that I've never played here; I know the rest. I made a list of jazz standards that I know and play a couple of months ago; came up with 85. Not too shabby for a guy who has to play pop/rock covers to make a living. I guess you could say jazz is my hobby and pop/rock is my livelihood.

With all the Crappy "how to play Solo Jazz Piano" books out there, Pete, and believe me I have bought most of them, I wish you would do us all a favor and just give us a pdf download of Three Choruses of each tune on your list that we could all buy for $50. The Tune that is No. 1 on my List? "Without a Song". Cuz that jus about sums it up for me. Ain't Life Poetic? Cheers! Very enjoyable vid. Short and Sweet.

i do this with other music all the time. i have my voice students do it with me sometimes. to teach them that music is very interchangeable and tiny nuances make big changes.
