One of my fsvourite Dickens books. Doesnt suffer from the wordiness and digressions that so often mke me give up on unabridged Dickens. IF you are new to this book, hang in there. The first chapter or three are a bit dull until Dickens hits his stride and from then on it is terrific and relatively "fast'paced" for a Victorian novel.

I was put off reading this (my favourite book) by comments about the accent. However, why do so many people on here feel they have the right to be so unpleasantly brutal? Could any of you have done any better? And what's more, you haven't even had to pay for it. Well done to the reader for having a go. I am sure, that though I am English, the reader on here has made a much better job than I could have done.

It may be right for Northern America but for my British ears it's just too brash & a English narrator would emphasis each character by a spoken identity, just like if you where describing Santa Claus you would use a Ho Ho Ho type of inflection & that instantly gives the image. But you know what works for your audience, so well done for giving it a go. I love the film & boy they got all the characters spot on. A great British production. Hollywood couldn't do it tho surprised no one else has tried even here in UK. All the best Ho Ho Ho..

You are right. I prefer to watch sports where no one strives for excellence, listen to musical instruments being scraped not played. Celebrate people's failures rather than successes, almost better luck next time, praise the mediocre. Why criticise, I am a believer in the democratic right, for you to like it and for me not to. Brutal? That is American foreign policy not a comment on someone's reading ability. Brian I too am sure the reader here did better than you could and me too maybe if that is at all relevant which it isn't. Finally if you have ever watched the movies or heard other readings of the book this is mediocre and an American accent which just kills the enjoyment and pleasure.

The audio for this was taken from the LibriVox website. The reader is me. If you go to LibriVox.org, there were actually a couple of readers before me (I'm version 3), and as I recall they are both British. As for me, I read it because I happen to love the works of Dickens. :) I had no idea that it was going to be reposted to KZbin and only just "discovered" it here now.

The recording was taken from the website Librivox.org (as I state at the beginning of the recording) where I am reading all of Dickens's works, and the site welcomes different voices and accents. I'm not the only person who had recorded Pickwick Papers for the site, for example. And I've been doing it simply because I enjoy it. I have gotten lots of positive feedback as well.
