A very good film, thank you! Great to see the Coupe getting recognized in the US. On the engine, actually the 5-cyl 20V Turbo is the one to have. It’s a lot more modern, got the latest Bosch Motronic management (instead of glitchy Marelli in the 16VT) and - the engine internals are much stronger. It can take up to 400hp without opening the engine, which you can’t say about the old 16VT (although there’s a big tuning aftermarket for it). Its pretty unbrakable. Of course also the 5-cyl’s got that lovely sound!! What many people miss even in Europe, is that the ’96 onwards 5-cyl 20VT actually came with a facelift. Not much on the outside apart from new wheels, new grille, wider front track and 4-pot Brembo’s - but most importantly, the quality of the interior took a big step up. Altho still looking pretty similar, you feel better & softer plastics etc. Also a much faster steering rack. Of course, 1998-2000 it also got Recaro’s and 6-speed gearbox. My own 340hp ’98 Coupe 20V Turbo is still the best car I’ve had. (My current Bmw Z4M Coupe is neither as fast, fun, practical or problemfree). These cars enjoy better suspension (Eibach springs/Bilstein shocks are great) and some added front camber (H&R camber bolts for Alfa 155). And why not the subframe front brace from OMP (Alfa 156). All this make them handle great! Rear lights were nicked from the Fiat Coupe to the first Koenigsegg cars! :)

It’s hard to argue against the 5cyl. Being an Audi rally fan from back in the day nothing beats the noises. However, the 5cyl weighs a bit more and the weight in the nose really puts me off. I appreciate your knowledge here, PARTICULARLY the bit about the Fuel Injection. Either turbo engine is brilliant and congrats on owning such a brilliant car. I do so appreciate you sharing your thoughts and owner views here. Cheers!!

I wish i never sold it... I've had tons of fun with my 16vt, tuned it with a t4 upgrade turbocharger, bigger intercooler, injectors, fuelpump and a Apexi standalone ecu,and of course a 500nm capable clutch ... When i bought the car it had a freshly rebuild bottom end with upgraded pistons. back in the day to get over 300 whp meant turbolag till about 3250rpm.. but once you hit 1.4bar of boost you really went forwards fast :) Wrx , 911, and even a Ferrari 355 had no chance keeping up :D.. Seeing this video made me remember how special of a car it always was.. Thinking of buying one again that's for sure..

I own four Fiat Coupes here in Sweden. One 20V, one 20VT and two 16VT(one of them is a non runner at the moment). All of them are great in their own way. The 20V is a perfect daily, 16VT just feels raw when the turbo hits and the 20VT is like the refined big brother. Happy to see them getting some spotlight!

Seasons great from Western Australia. Always been a fan of these. Tough car to find here but possible. Always been a fan of Fiat, had several from 1967 124 sedan, my first car to several 124 sports including a FBO 124 sports , headers, Ansa exhaust system,twin 2 barrel 45 mm Side mounted Delorto carburettors , lumpy race cams, fully ported and polished head , blueprinted engine. Cool video. I remember when I was a teenager growing up in the UK, these were well regarded, especially considering Fiat had a reputation for being unreliable. My friend's mum had one and she wasn't afraid to rag it either 😂

Thanks for watching! One thing I didn’t mention was that the car didn’t feel fragile. In the US we didn’t get any Alfa’s or Fiats in this era and it was thought that all the cars were crap so we weren’t missing anything. I read mostly UK publications (Car / performance Car/ Evo / Audi Driver / Max Power (hilariously) and it seemed like these actually had a pretty good measure of reliability. Your friends’ mum sounds ace! Cheers and Happy New Year!!

Hi, the car was designed in house by Fiat and the interior was designed by Pininfarina.

Not according to Chris 😉

Chris Bangle worked in Fiat then.. Pinninfarina did design, but in Fiat declined their work, and embraced their home design from Fiat centro stile, signed by Chris.. But they kept interior design from Pinninfarina.. Rest is history!

Nice Fiat. Here in Europe it's more common to see one, but not in a good shape. You should also try a sister car to this, an Alfa Romeo GTV ('94-'04), with 3.0 Busso v6. Honestly, that's a baby Ferrari. Had one for a month from my family member, painted in Rosso Proteo metallic. Nothing come close to make you feel special on the road. The one and only major issue with GTV is their previous owner. It's a true pain to find GTV in a mint condition, or a very good shape. People do not take care of these cars and it shows.
@TimsEnthusiastGarage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching my video! I love your comment “the one and only major issue with GTV is their previous owner” 🤣🤣🤣 so true, so true. Many cars this age that is the biggest issue.
