What could the costumer have been thinking when bejeweling the crotch? Can you look anywhere else? And the camera is often below him, shooting up into that damn thing! I've seen this movie a few times because I like Christy, and I like the original Pirates of Penzance. But I never remember this guy's face; in my mind, I only see a rhinestone athletic cup with a white wig floating above it. Maybe the costume designer used to sew for Chippendales? Whatever. Winner of the worst costume design of the 1980s.

@@spc4507 "Memorable" and "amazing" can be equal enough in this case. Is it not "causing great surprise or wonder" that we've remembered it this long, despite one of us not liking it and the other one... well, I don't exactly look at it and think "Yes, that is something I'd wear." It's gaudy for sure, but that fits the film and the character. Regardless, I love that there is someone else out there who has a very specific place in their mind for this codpiece. My friend and I were having a silly discussion about a made-up "codcast" (instead of a "podcast") all about codpieces, only for the creators of said "codcast" to end up at odds with a fishing podcast that is also a "codcast". I had to link them this clip as a reference to who would have been at the helm on the first side.
