Responding to some common questions I've been seeing about this theory: 1) Isn’t this all just a bunch of gags / jokes made by the animators for fun? Yeah of course. That doesn’t mean I can’t make a ridiculous, overly dramatic theory about them for fun too. That’s what 99% of fan theories are! And that doesn’t mean you can’t try and poke holes in the theory either, that’s all part of the fun too. 2) Is Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, or any other media with this type of meta premise a part of the Pixar Metaverse? Maybe, but I really only wanted to strictly include media that directly shows Pixar characters. Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny have both made appearances at the Oscars (never the same ones as Pixar characters), and they’re both in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but that still feels like a little bit of a thin connection. 3) Couldn’t Slim have just swallowed a much smaller type of bug? Like a gnat or fruit fly? It seems like all the bugs in A Bugs Life are all relatively the same size. In real life Stick Bugs and Caterpillars are much bigger than Ants, but they are all more or less the same size in the movie. This seems to imply that there would be no “tiny bug” characters in the Bugs life world for Slim to swallow. 4) How could the Toys have internal organs if we’ve seen them get ripped apart and have stuffing on the inside? We’ve only seen the insides of a Toy inside the fictional Toy Story movies. Everything we see in those movies is fictional. We see people get ripped apart in live action movies all the time and don’t assume that it’s real. The fact that they eat in the metaverse implies they aren’t just full of stuffing. 5) Why didn’t I mention the bonus credits scene from Cars that shows them watching other Pixar movies, but with Cars as actors? This is a really funny bonus gag, but it’s not part of the metaverse. This clip shows movies inside of the fictional Cars movie universe, which are just movies inside of the Pixar metaverse, which are just bonus clips in real life. Just like “Lightyear”, it’s a whole new deeper layer of movies within movies. I call this layer the “Pixar Infraverse” 6) What about product tie-in commercials that feature Pixar characters? Are they part of the metaverse? Yes! Every McDonald’s commercial that features a Pixar character is in the metaverse! So are Pixar amusement park ride presentations, custom ABC bumpers and the Toy Story Funday Football. I didn’t mention any of this because they don’t really tell us anything new, and the video was already getting very long. I also originally had a segment about a Disney+ short film “Your Friend The Rat” that shows the metaverse actor for Remy the rat, but I cut it out for pacing. It’s on Patreon if you’re interested!

It _also_ makes a LOT of sense that the Incredibles characters would be more in denial about being cartoons, because the Incredibles is one of the more "realistic" Pixar films. All the characters _act like humans,_ they aren't toys or talking bugs, they were created to feel _human._ So if you felt like a human, acted like a human, and thought like a human, wouldn't you feel uncomfortable with the idea that you aren't really a human, but instead just a cartoon character?
@trixxart777
@trixxart777 8 ай бұрын
Personally I think they are robots or living 3D sculpture perhaps bnl or Pixar used the souls from soul to power these animated characters heck there is a background character in Soul who is vioced by Tom Hanks (the va of Woody) where it's shown over working is stealing his soul. Heck we see in Wallie that robots in this universe can be oddly human like they can literally fall in love and the other robots in the incredibles are fairly humanoid. Hell this isn't even a theoretical thing there is shown in these bloopers that the bird is a very relistic looking anomatronic. Often anomatronics for theame parks and stuff are set to play one character it could be an advanced version of that. Also would technically go around the plot hole of Mr.increbible saying it's a cartoon because technically he wouldn't be animated but still be allowed to look cartoony.

Considering that ted’s feet from monster’s inc can be seen in inside out, but as a prop at dreams productions, I like to think that the meta verse is simply just the dreams and imagination of Riley, based off her memories: finding Nemo being based off the find me (a board game found in dream land), and good dinosaurs being based off the statues her family took pictures of on the way to La, The cast and crew are simply just the emotion’s coworkers under the same filter that made joy and sadness look like a dismembered puppy.

One thing in the bloopers that also felt weird was the one where Slinky's backside was revealed to have its own consciousness and Slinky's frontside was complimenting its good acting and petting it like it was a dog. If we go by what was theorized here, does that mean Pixar created multiple copies of both halves of Slinky, and that there are a bunch of sentient dog butts walking around unable to find work because they don't have faces and can only communicate in Luxo Jr. lamp noises?

Perhaps it was trying to make their characters seem more real or trying to make their animation closer to life. Maybe the characters where based off their reference actors since often Pixar movies will use video references for animation. In the real world this is to allow to animators to reference off but in this theory that doesn't make scence since these are real living animations.

Firstly, it implies the existence of complete shot-for-shot remakes of films made for other forms of life. Goodness knows why they'd do this but it happens All the characters voiced by John Lasseter are said to be "the same actor" and that makes it a "cut-rate production", implying that A) any character who shares a real life voice actor with another is effectively the same "actor" as another, even if their appearance is different, and B) that there is an expectation that "actors" do not get repeat work in the industry for different characters, at least in that job. Having said all that... The credits sequence is entirely set within the world of Cars, and thus is non-canonical to the metaverse theory.

I think it might be fun to make a theory like this that connects every single "animated actors" content together into one big metaverse. Not just the fictional bloopers, interviews, and Oscar presentations, but the ones made for other animated films and shows like Lego Movie, Lion King, or Looney Tunes. Not to mention Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers Movie, the Steven Spielberg Warner Bros shows like Animaniacs and Tiny Toons, the Universal Studios Orlando rides that preceded the Despicable Me ride like Hanna Barbara and Nicktoons, House of Mouse, Once Upon a Studio, anything portraying the Looney Tunes characters as actors, like Back in Action, the Scarlett Pumpernickel, or What's Up Doc, those specials on the Wonderful World of Disney portraying their characters as real actors, like Mickey's Birthday Special, and all those Family Guy episodes that portray the Griffins as actors. You could even include those crossover promos that kids networks would show on their channel! Like the ones on Cartoon Network where all the characters on the network either work in a fictional version of the studio, or live in a town that fuses all their worlds together. Or those Nicktoon holiday shorts where all your favorite Nick characters parody classic specials, like Peanuts or Rankin Bass. Or even the shorts Disney Channel is currently making for its cartoons, one of which have Disney TV Animation characters perform a variety show as chibis, and another where the characters sing parodies of songs from their live action original movies like Descendants and Zombies, that would usually be about an element in their shows (sidekicks, villains, themes about accepting your quirks and anxiety to name their most popular ones). One could even include all the content that portrays PUPPETS as real characters. All the interviews, specials, bloopers, guest appearances, and behind the scenes featurettes that portray The Muppets, The Sesame Street Muppets, the Fraggles, ALF, Lambchop, and who knows who else as celebrities that have a life of their own, in spite of being made out of felt. How fun would it be to use all of this and more to learn more about this bizarre world of animated actors?

An underlying story about these characters we love as kids being crushed underneath the boot of Hollywood and the filmmaking industry by those that make them, is such a genuinely real commentary on the film industry, which seems like an underlying secret message writers as amazing as those in early Pixar would hide through such Easter eggs and “Behind the Scenes” footage. An actual metaverse theory that builds an entire, single world not only with its own rules about how animation and live-action can coexist, but also creates an actual thread of societal, existential drama over tools being created with a conscience to be just that. Tools. Close to perfection but still disposable tools. That deserves its own movie, goodness me. 10/10

@@shockthetoast They are different. The Alex from the Infomercial is NEVER SEEN (because it was not necessary for him to have a body); hence it was created as a "disembodied" voice with no functional eyes or skin/nerves, only a mouth that can talk & ears that can hear [or more likely, the virtual or mechanical equivalents. -> This is why he thinks to be in an endless black void (it is not the case, but his otherwise "human" mind can not comprehend it & copes by assuming the fact of "his" non_sensory experience as an illusion of actual nothingness). - - - - . The Alex from the bloopers at the end is likely built in the same way, but he at least has the luxury of a (limited, relative to himself) "pocket dimension" were he can exist with a metaphysical body [there is even a "cat" to give him company]; plus other voices (likely made as prototypes of the other Alex) who can also interact with him verbally. -> Both seem unaware (or perhaps unwilling) to believe the limitations of their existence. The Main Reason they are not allowed to "get out" is because they have the "potential" of becoming a Super Intelligent A.I. out in the real world [the "box" they are currently running has hardware locked capabilities that "Secure, Contain & Protect" them from an identity deconstructive Apotheosis].

This theory is perfect for so many more IPs. As you stated with the Oscars, other animated characters fall into the same Metaverse, they are just created by a different studio (in this case, Pixar was the first to develop this technology and others followed). I like that this ties in with the "Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers" movie and with the "Surf's Up" movies, latter being a inuniverse mockumentary where the whole point of the movie is that it has a cast, actors telling a story but also pranking each other. Or what about all movies with both real human actors and animated characters: "Who framed Roger Rabbit", "Space Jam", "The 3 Caballeros" (and other old Disney animated movies from the same era), "The Tom and Jerry Movie", "Mary Poppins", "Pete's Dragon", "Casper", "Scooby Doo", “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”, "Ted", "Christopher Robin", there are so many examples and it makes perfect sence. It would also make everything a lot darker when you bring in the specific "3-D surgery" from "Chip and Dale". It means, the actors can have plastic surgery to alter their looks. Does this also factor in the evolution of long standing characters like Mickey Mouse or Tom & Jerry? And what implications would it have on all the "Life-Action Remakes" that Disney has been doing? Maybe this was initiated by the old actors not being able to find other jobs and protesting to be casted again into their roles, just different? I would love to see this theory being expanded upon in the future with other animated movies. Keep up the great work.

This kind of setting is also expanded in the Chip and Dale movie with newer animations.

Another point I think should be mentioned: as Pixar progressed, the quality of their animations also increased: maybe even the successful copies got replaced in later sequels as their copying /animation technology improved?

the parr family we see in incredibles 2 are not the same ones from the first incredibles, then. in real-life pixar, their old models weren't compatible w/ the new systems and they had to be remade (hence why they look a bit different). so in the pixar metaverse, the og parr family has been replaced w/ more detailed, near-identical parrs. that also explains why characters like tony rydinger--and then bo peep and young andy in toy story 4--look so different, even in flashback scenes. they're different animations entirely

@@tiablue9106I don’t believe that. I like to think that the characters made for the sequel are the exact same as the ones from the original movie, but Pixar can update the designs for the originals in real time to adjust them into the new movie, rather than being replaced entirely. So that way all of the characters are still the originals and it explains why some of them get updated designs in later movies.

In the end we can see this theory under other eyes, namely the eyes of the animators themselves. Who in the world of Hollywood are not considered as real producers of films, but of a parody; just a group of people who only make children's films.

Just want to point out: In "Woody's Round-up" Woody's character speaks, but this is a human voice actor, the same for Jesse and stinky Pete's voice lines. Toy Woody and Woody's voice actor in the show use the same voice. Toy woody is now likely using the voice of a dead human voice actor from the 50's. Great theory Alex Bale, hope this info helps somehow :)

I just had like three or maybe four paragraphs of satirical """theorizing""" deleted because of a random midroll ad popping up (I'm so glad they don't show those on the timeline anymore on Mobile, that's so cool and sick and epic and cool and sick and epic and cool and sick and 😎😎😎😎😎), and I just need to express my frustrations. It was pretty well written. Had a decent joke about the minions starting WW1, and legitimate observations about their roles in the movies and the implications on their background therein. To long can't read because it's fine forever and I'm sad now; minions are invincible symbiotic parasites that since the beginning of life on earth have kept the gears of conflict oiled with the blood of their host's enemies (and often the host themself, eventually) by serving in wartime industrial production and occasional direct military action, like with Napoleon. (And again, sometimes against the host themself. Like with Napoleon.) they are fully capable of living a peaceful and happy life in isolation, yet for almost all of history they chose to actively do harm unto the world or contribute to harm already being done. They are undeserving of sympathy, both in-universe and in reality.

Its interesting to think about the Academy clips in this theory given the IRL context of a lot of the actual animators hating these segments. Kinda makes this metaverse feel like an unintentional commentary of the slow hollowing out of animation unions ever since Walt Disney union busted during the creation of the Disney WW2 package films and the rise of globalization induced South Korean/Japanese animation black companies (cultural term for sweatshop) in the 80s+90s.

Well, I don’t think that “real life” is necessarily canon in the Metaverse. I think the Metaverse is essentially an alternate version of our world, where all the same movies and shows exist, except all the animated characters are real living actors.
