What has always driven me nuts about the gold confiscation talk is the fact that all the folks suggesting confiscation is coming are saying it's coming to western countries. Most western countries produce their own gold bullion for sale. If they're selling it then confiscation makes no sense. In fact many countries had record high sales of gold in recent years. When the government stops selling gold I'll listen to the confiscation talk. Until then it's just someone pushing fear

A friend from a communist country told me not to expect bloodshed in resistance to totalitarianism. (He was an avowed, unapologetic, naturalized American who would not even let his kids speak their native language.) Said that sure, there'd be small skirmishes here or there, easily squashed, but that there'd be no armed resistance beyond a bump in the road to total government control. Said that, if I expected anything else, then I did not understand how totalitarianism (i.e. communism) worked. Said that not only would people give up their rights and freedoms, they would demand to do so. I railed against this at the time. That conversation was 30 years ago. Never forgot it. Within the last year I bought him dinner as we hadn't talked in decades. I told him that now, I am certain he was correct.

Absolutely correct! There was no confiscation as such (no house search, body search or the like). People were asked to hand in their gold with the exception of jewellery and coin collections. The reason was a third of the economy was goldbased and people taking it out of the economy was not viable. After exchanging huge loads of people's gold for dollars the US managed to work its way out of the Depression. Again; there was no confiscation: think of the huge population of pre-33 gold we have today 🙂

I grew up learning to love and trust my wonderful government (early 1960s). Now, I despise and distrust our own government. No wonder that the rest of the world hates us. Congress has its own fancy pension fund and its own fancy healthcare plan... so screw Social Security and Medicare and the rest of us who will depend on those programs when we retire. What would happen to the price of gold if the government minted a gold coin with a 40 trillion dollar face value and paid of the debt? Point being the national debt is the primary driving force of increasing gold price and not central banks buying it up. That comes in second place in my opinion.

I suspect the "authorities," whoever they are, may have some difficulties when trying to negotiate a deal of theft from a recalcitrant and stubborn crowd that owns more than one hundred and fifty million firearms. I'm aware this question might be a bit delayed, but I'm curious about something regarding Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). If the government were to mandate the exclusive use of a CBDC, could they not then deem transactions in gold illegal? In such a case, how would one go about selling gold? I assume peer-to-peer transactions would be prohibited. It's possible there might be a buyback program initially, but after that, wouldn't gold essentially become valueless to the average person? Have you considered this potential situation?

So, if you don't see the fiat dollar system as viable, whether paper or digital, since no fiat system has ever succeeded, what is the alternative? BRICS plus countries central banks evidently see a need for a commodity backed monetary system, at least for trading purposes, hence their willingness to convert US dollars to gold. What commodity is considered a Tier 1 asset: you guessed it... gold. And while we may hold 8,000 plus metric tons of gold, who says they are ours considering the difficulty Germany had recovering their gold that we held, and that was only 300+ tons. Please feel free to offer a solution to the fiat dollar system. Maybe use government land as an asset to back the monetary system??

It wasn’t confiscation so much as forced sale to the state at the “official” rate of $20 per troy ounce. Of course, when the program was complete, the government immediately bumped up the official rate to $35 per ounce.

There should be NO REASON for the government to confiscate gold. It didn't go so well last time and in addition it won't solve the problem which is too much debt. The nations population that owns precious metals has dropped from 2% of the population to about .5% of the population over the last 20 years and if things get "bad" that the government needs Gold...there won't be enough within the population to make much of a difference. It's not a security feature, exactly. My understanding is that it provides a for an identification feature using some kind of recently developed micro-marking technology, which can be machine imprinted and read, and which is a unique identifier of that particular coin. This provision was being developed by previous US mint director, David Ryder. Not sure what the status of that project is under Biden-appointee, Ventris Gibson.

My life and opinions on gold , if I can recall my interactions with it correctly . I wish it were as straight forward and clear as Tristram Shandy, but I must begin in the 19th century where one of my 8 great, great grandfathers left the old country , and his undertakings to provision himself to his eventual meeting with my great , great grandmother in the new country. I don’t believe there will be a physical gold confiscation either. What I foresee is a continuation of what we are currently seeing now, which is a failure to promote the actual value of gold versus the actual timeline so the layman can interpret. By that I mean governments/central banks are squeezing the weak hands out, and the true value will not show up except for the strong hands down the road. We see that in short by the weakest hands who cannot afford. And for those who hold physical but do not have their debts paid and/or positions firmly in place will eventually become the weak hands and will have to “sell” their gold before true maturity, thus confiscating their wealth by timeline and not by force or threat. For the strong hands who do not sabotage themselves with trivial pursuits in the meantime, living within their means and making solid decisions, much of which borders on sacrificing now for later, they will be in the best position to witness the greatest gains in gold… I just hope that doesn’t take ~40 years to materialize. I don’t think it will due to the global financial environment. We will see what actually takes place.

2 is 1 always another great video; realistically you’re my number one channel for sensibility and reasonableness. A topic that I’ve always try to figure out is the effect when you buy an ounce. What actually happens? So let’s call it a trade, I trade my paper debt for a real piece of gold which is now something tangible. But what are the latent effects of that transaction on the greater economy? Presumably that weakens currency? Presumably that speeds up the flow of money? Presumably that causes inflation? It’s an interesting topic to understand the microscopic affects, when somebody buys a piece of gold. Experts say it’s a closed system so it has no effect. That fiat just goes into somebody else’s bank account, but I don’t totally buy that. Confiscation of gold? I really doubt it when they can hit some computer keys and take much more from more people. And, most people that keep PMs also keep other metals that can ruin days. This is one of those situations where ''is the juice worth the squeeze'' is a pertinent question.

Personally I matched the gold holdings that were allowed per person from the last confiscation and put the rest in silver, platinum, and palladium since those were never touched. My majority holdings in crypto at the moment, waiting for an opportunity to offload into precious metal again, likely in 2-3 months.

We used gold and silver coins as money and currency back in the early 1930's and before so it was considered as a form of payment for goods and services back then but our money is no longer backed by gold so now gold is just considered a store of value or a jewelry or collectible relic now. Besides not enough of the mass population owns and holds gold except for gold jewelry and some collectible gold coins. I don't think the United States Mint would mint gold coins like the American Gold Eagle coins and distribute them for sale to the public still today if they did not want us holding gold or if they were planning on confiscating gold. So there are not too many reasons for them to confiscate our gold since they know that most Americans cannot afford to own very much gold anyway and the government holds and owns far more gold than the mass population so our gold is not a threat to them.

There are far better ways to make gold unattraktive for private investors than confiscating it. For example adding a new tax on (private) sales of precious metals. Criminalizing private (cash) transactions wich exceed a certain amount of money. Just be creative. It's far too easy to hide gold. So instead of wasting resources on finding it, make it next to impossible to buy, sell, import and export investment grades gold for private individuals.
