The message was still the dessert and the dessert is what got send up. When the old man was checking it for a hair in the middle of the movie it's because they thought that was the reason nobody ate it. Missing the message of the dessert completely

A scolding from the chef to his kitchen team for a pannacotta with a hair on it. Although the scene appears long before the end in the narrative, chronologically it can be placed as a conclusion. That would be the panna cotta that Goreng and Baharat sent back, only the chef thinks that it has not been eaten because it was a hair. · What the director of El hoyo, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, says. "For me, the last level does not exist. Goreng dies before arriving, and what we see is his interpretation of what he would have done," according to the Bilbao filmmaker in an interview with The Digital Spy. "I wanted the ending to be open to interpretation, as if the plan really works or if the people above even care about those in the hole." "I leave what happens to each one's imagination," reflects the director. Not without first ensuring that an alternative ending was filmed that was very different from his own interpretation. "We shot a different ending where you could see how the girl reached the first level, but we removed it from the final cut," he concludes.》- www.20minutos.es/cinemania/noticias/el-hoyo-final-explicacion-netflix-148214/

I thought that too, but no way in hell would 333 separate meals fit on that small of a platform. The only thing I can think of that would justify why there were only as many meals as there were on the platform, would be that some of the people, maybe inmates or something of the like, don't have a choice. That would lead to the fact that there would never be enough food for everyone. We can see that there wasn't enough from the fact that Goreng and Baharat, even with skipping 44-45 floors, didn't have enough food for all of the floors. In conclusion, that means, somehow or someway, the system is fully rigged so that there is no possible way for everyone to be fed

We all live our lives “for the platform” and strive to achieve a higher status of other “levels”, which are the societal goals we strive for like wealth and stability, or in this case, food and if we all work together in helping our fellow man at least survive then we can all eat from the platform.

@@numerousear7150 yeah I understand the complexities. I'm just breaking it down to the greed and decadence of the one percent versus the clawing delusion of success. My view of success is not necessarily societies. In fact a lot of my beliefs are counter to expectations because kindness, compassion and empathy is highly lacking in working of late. Hopefully all this isolation will force some circumspection of self and folks will start to acknowledge what's really important.

It also makes sense because he spends two months with the old man, two months with the woman, one with her alive and the second when see had killed herself. That’s why on the fifth month the ghost of the old man tells him it’s good that he is so high up on lvl 6 so he can eat and recover for he has one month left after this one. This movie just sums it all up about how our society works in the present. There was no random character in this movie, everyone who appeared in the film represents a group of people in our society. In this analysis, I will focus on those characters starting with the main protagonist: Goreng- He is an Idealist. He represents the people in our society who dreams of change, he is noble and kind. This is evident when he chose to bring a book (Don Quixote of La Mancha) to The Hole instead of a tool or a weapon. The book he brought was even a representation of himself in the movie... a noble knight. The Butler in Level 0- He is the administration, the government. He represents the people in power, the world leaders. He is in control of everything. He meticulously inspects all the dishes being served in the platform, he will not allow any imperfection get away like the single strand of hair he found in the Panna Cotta. He is all about the food presentation, but he does not really care about how far out his dishes will serve the people in the lower levels. Is he even aware that only the people on the higher levels are benefiting from what he serves? Does he only serve the elite... the wealthy 1%? Trimagasi- He is a seasoned veteran. He represents the people in our society who were hardened by the system, people who have already experienced it all and just want to survive day by day. These are the people who no longer desire change not because they never wanted it but because they have given up on all hope. He is the one who told Goreng, not to talk to the people below them because they're down below and also not to talk to the people above them because they will not answer him, "obviously". Imoguiri- She is a part of the administration. She worked all her life for the system but she has not really experienced it first-hand. She thinks she knows how the system work but we found out in the movie that she was all wrong. She thought that the Hole has only 200 levels but there were 333 levels in total. She thought that the administration was not letting minors inside the Hole but we found out in the end that a child was in fact in level 333. Baharat- He is a hard-working citizen, the working class. These are the people who aspire for success their whole lives, they work so hard to reach the top of the social ladder but the people higher than them will never allow them to reach their goal because they pose as a threat to their own positions. This was shown in the film when Baharat begged the couple in level 5 to help him climb up; the couple made him believe they were going to help him but they defecated on his face instead. Wise Man in a wheelchair- He is a teacher. He represents the people working in our education system. These are the people who prepare us on how to deal with society, they teach us to be civilized in the modern world. The wise man told Baharat to do a dialogue with the prisoners first before he shows them any aggression but he soon realizes that being aggressive works better. Miharu- She is a parent. She represents the loving parents in our society who would do anything in order for their children to survive. She may appear vicious in the film, but she was only doing what was necessary for her child to survive. Miharu's Daughter- She is the message. She is the message of hope that our society can still reach a sense of solidarity. Sadly, the goal of the Hole for its prisoners was not achieved in the movie, although Goreng and Baharat were able to send a message that there is still hope for the future. It was not explained in the movie how the floor levels are being assigned at the beginning of each month to the prisoners, but I think when you are new in the Hole, they will put you in a level where food scraps will still reach you. Goreng was assigned in level 48 in his first month, Trimagasi's first cell was in level 72, and Imoguiri was placed in level 33 when she entered the Hole. I also don't believe that the cell levels are being assigned randomly to the prisoners in the following months. I think that if the prisoners do not eat or kill their cellmates, they will be assigned to the bottom levels. This is what happened to Goreng and Trimagasi when they went from level 48 down to level 171 the next, then Goreng ate Trimagasi and he went up to level 33. My theory was confirmed when Goreng and Imoguiri went from level 33 down to level 202, then Goreng ate Imoguiri and he was assigned in Level 6 the next month. For me, this represents that you will not be successful in this society unless you learn to be vicious; it's a dog eating dog world; eat or be eaten. This is also the reason why Miharu was killing all her cellmates-- to make sure that she will always be assigned to a higher floor level every month, then she goes down along with the platform to ensure that some food will reach her daughter in level 333. She was not actually looking for her child, she knows exactly where her child is. She never taught her daughter to consume human flesh so she would always be assigned at the lowest level of The Hole. Miharu was doing all of those things to ensure that her daughter will survive. Imoguiri said that the goal of the Hole was to create a spontaneous sense of solidarity, which is also what we need in our society. All the prisoners could have survived if only the people above would be considerate with the people below-- but greed and selfishness always get the best of us. Perhaps the solution was simple: if all the prisoners only stick on eating their favorite food then everyone will be able to eat. The Hole serves all of the prisoner's favorite dish, this was shown during the interview scene of Goreng and confirmed when he saw the Escargot on the platform for the first time when he was in level 33. It was also discovered by Goreng and Baharat at the ending of the film that they can actually keep their favorite food on their cell level without being burned or frozen to death. The Panna Cotta is the favorite food of Miharu's daughter, that's why she was able to eat it in level 333 even if the platform already went down. Goreng, who dreamed of a better society, tried his best to make the people understand how everyone can benefit if they just stop being selfish and greedy. He made the ultimate sacrifice-- he left the security and abundance of level 6 so he can show all the people how solidarity can save all of them from hunger. But greed and selfishness proved to be the stronger foe.

in the middle of the movie, the main chef found a hair on the pannacotta. This actually happens after the events of the movie. The girl in level 333 never existed. He sends the Pannacotta, with a hair. But the main chef and the people in level 0 are so disconnected of the reality of the pit they ignored the message and though someone rejected the pannacotta beacuse of the hair, making everything pointless in the end. Super sad. Also, 333 floors, 666 people. Yeah, they are in hell. I remember when I was young I read a story about hell being a giant round table with the most delicious soup in the middle. There was enough soup for everybody but they gave them giant spoons to big to be used so everybody was always hungry. Heaven was the exact same room with the one difference that here, people learned to be kind and share. So they used their giant spoons to feed each other. I believe this story was somehow inspiration for this movie.

The only way the metaphor fails is that the people at the top know they’ll eventually get stuck at the bottom, so they get fat like a bear for the winter. They all understand what it’s like to be hungry and eat in excess because of it. They do it out of fear and not apathy for the people below em

True since the 1% in social know they can't fail vs anyone else who know they can. So they will try to find ways to prepare themselves. Especially since they have no idea how far they will fall.
@AnnoyingMystery4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Byrne but that actually still works with the metaphor. they perpetuate the awful society theyre in bc its the only way they think they can properly survive. they fear that they'll be on the bottom next time around, so they fatten themselves up and thus seem heartless and cruel because it just keeps the cycle going. The solution would be to completely destroy and reform the whole society in the first place and blame those who created it in the first place, not those suffering within it. The people at the top could have sacrificed their lives by taking all of the food off of the platform and then freezing to death so that the whole system failed before it even started as a kind of revolution.

I really like the character's journey of the main character here. Like, he starts out noble and goes more brutal and insane as the story goes on but, even though he does become more "feral" in a sense, he never really loses his ideological view. Not something that you see that often, good stuff.
@Hortster4 жыл бұрын
My interpretation is that it ends showing that he gave in and listened to his demons (the old guy) who persuaded him that his journey was done when he reached the bottom and that the message didn't need a messenger. But by not going with the girl and providing context, the chefs didn't understand the message (the hair in the dessert) so context is always needed with content.
@RuFi00000004 жыл бұрын
@@Hortster The hair in the dessert wasn't from a message. In the beginning of the video you can see the head chef walking around and checking for quality control; in the hair scene, he's yelling at everyone because a hair ended up in a premium dish BEFORE IT WENT DOWN. Remember, it has to be quality, premium food cooked perfectly before they send it down. edit: keep in mind, the head chef also lined the cooks up to compare the hair and find who dropped it - implying only the cooks were responsible, because no one else had interacted with the food yet.

@emoimo41714 жыл бұрын
Depends on if you want literal or metaphorical. If you want to take everything at face value, and ignore subtext, then the girl was at the bottom floor just by chance. The woman was probably raped, gave birth, and then found out that her baby was put into the prison like any normal person. So the woman kills her cell mate every month, and rides the platform until she finds her daughter, kills her daughter’s cell mate to keep her safe, and makes sure to bring food for her. If you want the more accepted, metaphorical answer... she never existed. That scene in the middle of the movie where the chef is pissed off he found a hair in the panna cotta? That takes place at the *END* of the movie. There was no girl, they sent up the dessert. But the chef, completely unaware of what’s happening down there, thought it was “sent back” BECAUSE it had a hair in it. Showing the disconnect between the upper and lower classes. On level 0, the chef can’t even comprehend what “the message” was supposed to be, because of what it would mean in *his* world. The girl is an allusion to Dulcinea, from Don Quixote. Basically, Don imagines her as his perfect princess, and does his heroic deeds in her name, even though she doesn’t exist. The main character wants to believe that everything has a purpose. That the place is evil, and that the girl who saved him wasn’t just a psycho killer, so he imagines her daughter, and that she’s the perfect message. But really it’s just the dessert.

A good analysis and theory; there’s just one inconsistency with the literal interpretation you propose: the girl looks to be about six, but the administrator lady said that Mihiru (the platform rider) had been in the pit for ten months. Long enough to give birth, sure, but not long enough for the kid to grow up, or at least be the age of the little girl at the bottom. So either the kid was brought in with her mom Mihiru and they were separated, or Mihiru did give birth while in the pit, and the little girl is unrelated. I think it’s the former, and that having a kid brought in (at least from a literal view) speaks to the cruelty of the Administration, breaking their own rules of no one younger than 16.
@Sdot-od8jf4 жыл бұрын
I agree with some parts but disagree with others. I agree the child was not real, she was a figment of imagination. But I don’t think the desert made it up to level 0, that scene with the hair still signifies how big of a disconnect there is between the ones at the top and the bottom. The elite are concerned with details that the ones at the bottom can’t even imagine. I think there is no real message, but the main characters were desperate to find it. They wanted there to be a message so they could make sense of all the injustice. They were clinging to superstition, desperate for purpose and direction. In the end I believe they failed and never even got to send level 0 a message, the desert or the girl. It was meaningless at the end.

The ONLY way will be when the Government steps in and begins rationing out for us and raiding the ones who have bought up everything and hoarded for themselves. And believe me... that will start happening sooner than you think... in fact, I really think that if we don't see it start within the next month (if the infection rate of Coronavirus doesn't begin to seriously slow by then), then we will be really lucky. So, mark my words, we will probably have a communistic/socialist lifestyle before this entire thing is over... and the Democrats will have won and gained EXACTLY what they wanted. Also... everything playing out the way it is, is why I REALLY believe this virus was built and planned by the Democrats and the Chinese Government, TOGETHER, as a New World Order maker. some theories i saw on reddit by PuzzleMaze08 about the girl being real or not and the overall message of goreng and baharat’s mission: 1.The girl at the 333rd floor doesn't exist. It was said that the pit doesn't have 16 below and theres also an obscure scene about a panna cotta being dissed by the head chef. This scene probably a foreshadowing scene of the ending, if not then for what? Goreng and Rope guy theoretically died on their way and didn't make it to the last few floors does creating an illusion that, of all floors and rotations, theres a girl on the last floor. Yet, they succeeded in sending up the Panna cotta/message to the lvl0 but died somewhere. 2.The girl actually exist. Miharu (Mother) ; the one who goes down every month to look for his son, may actually be the one who took care of that child of the pit. She goes down every month to find her and give her food to eat. This was portrayed when Miharu helped Goreng after being attacked by Trimagasi, She was cared and fed like a child before miharu continued her journey going down the pit. Miharu also went and kill the dog of Imaguari and pack it before descending the pit, which she will probably give to the child. I therefore conclude that, Whether the girl exist or not, the Panna cotta / "The girl is the message" were the things to describe that there's always an irregularity in an administration and we should always try to send them a message no matter how hard the journey is, And Miharu, represent some people in the society who already knew about this issue but chose to keep quite and do small things at a time on their own for future purposes. Send a Panna cotta to start a small fuzz, or Send a girl, a hope, an irregularity, to create a massive dent on an structured administration. People die, people fall, people lose their mind and some get lost in the dark while serving the light.

@wintersummer16334 жыл бұрын
id like to think that too but i hate that there's no definitive answer. the novelty of leaving an ending up to the imagination is so worn out on me to be honest. we're just left with so many unanswered questions. like what will happen to goreng after he reached the bottom? maybe there's an exit, maybe there isn't. if there aint, is it implied that he'll just starve to death there now? it's not even a typical cell like the rest, so will the administration even relocate him at the end of the month? also i didnt see any doors in any of the cells and there are 333 floors, so how are the staff even able to move all the inmates into different cells over one night in a verticle prison? also is it safe to send a child up on the speeding platform for 333 cells? and if they believed that then why has none of the inmates except miharu ever just tried staying on it in order to eventually get to the top? also the movie didn't explain the whole thing about the girl being special and why the platform didn't register that the dessert had been kept on the level. 'she's the message' didn't explain that. people speculate that she was an hallucination and that it was just the dessert that was sent up but that too sprouts more unanswered questions like how was she then seen by baharat and why goreng would hallucinate a girl instead of the boy that miharu was supposedly looking for... and if the girl was real then what will happen to her when she reaches the top (if she survives the trip)? i know the implication is that it's supposed to spark a change in the system but that's only one of a multitude of things that can happen and the movie gave no reason to believe that that particular outcome was guaranteed. so now we're left with maybes. this isn't leaving it to the imagination. it just feels incomplete. so yeah, i was abit frustrated with the ending because i enjoyed the ride so much but the ending left me empty. great movie though and i'd recommend it.
@howareyoumoreofaclownthanme4 жыл бұрын
@@wintersummer1633 I'll address quite a few of your points, then. 1. Unanswerable by nature. 2. I think there actually are doors. If you look at the walls where the numbers are etched, you'd see two lines indicating a door. The texture is different between the inside space and the outside- you can see it very clearly on the 48th floor. 3. No, it is absolutely not safe for a child. The reason why leads into the next number: 4. You've actually addressed the 'special' and 'message' part by mentioning the girl = dessert theory. We've seen our protagonist hallucinate not just one, but two people. This is important because: 5. Baharat could have also been a hallucination. We know Baharat was very much real... for most of the trip. So when was it most likely he turned into a hallucination?During the fight where Miharu was killed. Goreng had prolonged asphyxiation (damaging an already damaged brain) while Baharat was stabbed with a katana. Baharat likely lasted juuuuust long enough to save Goreng before kicking the bucket. Alternatively: 6. Goreng could have died there already. He wasn't just hallucinating, he was descending into the afterlife. I honestly, honestly do not think there are 333 floors. A prison that just so happens to hold 666 prisoners, but it's only 665 because the girl at the very bottom floor just so happened to be alone? Hell no. 7. My theory is that Goreng was so affected by Miharu, Don Quixote and the talk about God he had with Trimagasi that as he lay dying he dreamt the rest of the way down. "For neither good nor evil can last for ever; and so it follows that as evil has lasted a long time, good must now be close at hand." He wanted so badly to believe that Miharu was telling the truth, that he had a shot at saving everyone, that the administration would finally listen- but like Don Quixote, he had only gone insane.

I guess the question would be... if you edited that scene of the administrator yelling at the chefs and comparing hairs to the end of the movie, would you be satisfied? I think it's fine as it is. The protagonists died with hope- even if their message was completely shut down in the end.

My question is: Why is it always Goreng who wakes up last? Like, everytime he wakes up, someone has either hanged themselves or is about to kill him. Why don't he wake up earlier?

Maybe because he wasn't eating as much? Most drugs leave the body sooner if you eaten or it get's absorbed less. It could also symbolize his lack of mental understanding of the system, which is why he gets called a snail.

I have another theory: The Administration never got the message and they never actually know what happens in the hole. See, in level 0 you can’t see the lower levels since the table is blocking the view. As i see it, the movie is not in cronological order. The scenes that show the kitchen are split throught the whole movie and the last scene should be the one that shows that the pannacotta had a hair. The kid was an illusion. The pannacotta actually got to level 0 but the kitchen never got the message couse they thought that they return the dessert couse it had a hair (they had never returned food before)

He's only there for 6 months for his diploma and to quit smoking. 2 months with the older man, 2 months with the lady (one with her being dead), and then his fifth month is with the rope man. He had one month left and could have gotten by but chose to help and sent a kid up to show a child is being hirt despite under 16 being a strict no no. Also perhaps a children are the future message but the old ways must die which is why he walks off. He is not required for change and is already tainted because he did succumb to the system at a point. Sorry for not using names didnt want to spell them wrong just wanted to explain that it was 6 months. Great movie that left me and my boyfriend in shock and we debated a college degree being wrth it or not which it is not at all. Great video, always enjoy them.

The main characters time is actually 6 months. 6 months to quit smoking- get a degree- and read don Quixote. That's why his time goes so quickly. Just finished watching it. It was his original roommate who got a year- and sarcastically replied he should get 2 degrees when he heard his roommate with high ideals had come with that purpose.

I eat once a night 🌙 fast and prepare your bodys to eat small increments of food the elites will force the vaccine and than syphon the damned to the mark of the beast; Jesus christ is coming back but not before all is fulfilled. Those who try to save and keep their lives will lose it and those who lose their lives for his name will save it. You have to descend to ascend. Therefore I must decrease and he must increase. The weaker you become the stronger his voice rings within your mortal body. these dust body's that we have. I was getting satan vibes from Timarsu or whatever is name is the old man tempting the main character to eat the food go ahead cannibalise or perish! And the main character being the messiah equality and equity for all flesh i can be rightfully situated at the top of the pyramid and you all will he bowing to me and I'd have the cut of the finest dishes but instead he descended and descended to a point reaching outer darkness like the bible says in hell is outer darkness pitch black darkness. He sent the child on the platform that can signfy the world 🌎 us being the little children. I think the old man was saying she won't make it or something that's exactly what the devil would say. Jesus went to hell for 3 days of total darkness and misery to save us all. Only I wish the ending gave it justice the platform coming back down with special ops troops and government leaders picking the main character by the arms and helping him up on the platform and being zoomed all the way to "Heaven" to the administration floor where he is told that he "Passed the test" and there is 1% of people who manage to make it out. The child wasn't alone in the room there were cameras and secret doors that would allow help to the child if any prisoners would pull something funny on the child. Very good movie im disappointed in the ending 😕

@@SprDrumio64 The book of ecliastes elaborates how the social structure has been flawed since the beginning of time without a proper king who is perfect be it Jesus. The rich prosper in there wickedness and the poor suffer. Its easy to do wrong, its harder to do what's right ✅ and at the final hour When God comes back he will reward every man back whether for GOOD or for evil believe or not believe that doesn't change the outcome. You have to admit that we aren't perfect all of us have some imperfections none of us are perfect, everyone who's ever been in power had something they lacked for the people. When King Jesus comes back he will have an eternal kingdom that won't rust it will retain its luster for eternity his name will retain glory for eternity because it falls back on his literal word's which he never lied or broke for anyone. He will be compassionate and rule with mercy but he also will be a God that will rule with fire 🔥 🔥 in his eye's. He will tend to the needs of all mankind those who believed and were redeemed by his saving blood. He came on a colt and he comes again on a royal stallion to render back each to there own. This may be a movie but it throughly paints the picture of inequality. Those on the top flores indulge and those on the bottom fight to survive. Those in the middle I see as those who aren't in 3rd world country's they're surviving alright; but just getting by. Very deep.

Jack Ripley Ok heres some examples of Goreng’s privilege in the story 1) he did not know where his acceptance from the administration lied (he didnt know he was going to the pit) 2) He was picky with his food. 3) he brought a book im saying the movie made an effort to outline his privilege in an effort for the audience to consider how Goreng is not that much different from ourselves, and that it’s incredibly difficult for any privileged life to survive in the wild. Vis-a-vis Goreng oversleeping on level 202 (edit: 171). Hope that clears some things up.

Trimagasi notes that Goreng sleeps very soundly when he wakes tied up on level 171, which I believe is meant to address that. The sleeping gas was probably more effective on him than the people he was paired with - that kind of individual variability happens with general anaesthesia in real life too.
