Tonys live performance of "Smoke gets in your eyes" on this show, was far better than the recording and he hit higher and clearer notes. Its on youtube.

Exactly. Great live performance lead by Tony, and smooth, tight, excellent backing harmonies by Herb, David, Zola, and Paul. This is the BEST lineup of The Platters ever. They did all of the hit recordings.

Any performance they had on the Sullivan show was live, Sullivan didn’t start the pre recorded music until the mid 60s I wanna say. The Platters also did smoke gets in your eyes live and although like this the audios a little rough it’s an incredible piece of film because as you’ve stated we don’t have many live performances from one of the greatest groups the worlds ever listened too.

Prior to these times today I saw a great decline of musical talents wither away in the 1980s the American Creative Foundation for music has definitely lost its creative edge musically, but I thank God for the grace of the Platters Tony Williams impeccable voice of singing I can listen to Only you and you alone constantly and I will never get bored. I thank God for him leaving behind such beautiful music! But we mustn't forget Buck Ram! He trained Tony Williams voice and wrote the songs for the Platters and many other artists as well.

Finally you have uploaded a video of one of the greatest vocal groups of all time, the Platters! I have always wondered why it took this long, as Sofa never featured the Platters in any compilation show either. Tony Williams was one of the greatest singers ever. "Only You" is a timeless classic. I've read that the Platters sang "My Prayer" on Ed Sullivan, and if this footage exists, I'd love to see it too! More pop singers from the '50's, please!

Nice to see a live performance of this. Now I would like to see other performances by other Quartets like THE INK SPOTS from Oct.24th 1948, Oct. 12th 1952 and July 4th 1954. THE DELTA RHYTHM BOYS from Nov. 9th 1952.(I know that there is a kinoscope of that) BILLY WARD & THE DOMINOES from April 12th 1953. THE MILLS BROTHERS from Nov.7th 1954 THE FOUR PALMS from May 12th 1957.

@@TimAwolz You don't understand boomer. It is not bad because it is old. The quality is bad because they reduce the size of the file before they upload it. Compare the video: "Supremes - You Can't Hurry Love" (uploaded in 1080p) with this video.

@@paulknight9998 the supremes video was recorded 9 years after this performance, it is obviously going to sound and look better than a tv recording from 1957. Why would the Ed Sullivan KZbin channel choose to upload a bad version if they had something better? The version you are watching now is clearly the best version they have available and really doesn’t sound bad at all. Stop being so ungrateful and appreciate the fact that they have uploaded this in the first place.
