It’s also really sad how this is turning into some unregulated dictatorship. Being banned/punished for harmless things because someone didn’t agree is dangerously close to WWII Germany’s attitude or George Orwell’s book “Nineteen Eighty-Four.” While reports and censorship are important to keep spaces healthy and integrated, this ambiguous system is putting stress onto folks to guess if anything that they are doing is a ban-worthy offense. The "few ways" the team of human moderators can act is literally just "ban the skin from being used by a player", that is what Mojang has written. Apperantly, based on these rules Mojang has made, the only option would be to ban the skin, which would remove it from all players who’s using said skin. So Phoenix would never be able to use his skin again..? Or any other poor guy who’s being "impersonated".

The problem with these reporting features isn't so much that they're oppressive, it's more-so that they're unnecessary. Community-run servers can already ban players that spam chat with abusive things or have names/skins that violate the rules of the server, and they've done so for years. There's *no* reason why Microsoft would be introducing a global-report system when server owners can deal with it on their own terms, especially since not all servers have the same rules. All the report system does is force all servers to drop down to a more kid-friendly level, which isn't exactly aligned with the userbase of Java Edition as much as it would be for, say, Bedrock.
@raiden_from_metal_gear Жыл бұрын
here on Bedrock Edition, on a server like The Hive for example they already do ban you from their server for being too sussy. Keep in mind though that also puts you at risk of not only being banned from just a specific server or several, but also of having your _whole account_ banned. Also, no one can ever truly know what's the exact threshold for what could be considered too sussy, not even the moderators, but all I can say is that once, for a very brief moment, back when there was this exploit using skin packs that allowed you to use custom capes and models (you can't use custom capes anymore), I made a Nazi Swastika flag cape, did not dare to use it on The Hive but instead on a random, dead anarchy server, and never once got punished for it (likely only because there was only ever one person to witness it and he likely didn't report me)

What if they implemented an algorithm to detect _small_ changes like that? Could some player take a non-offensive skin and add some _small_ and offensive change to it, and would that disable players from using the non-offensive skin for being to similar to the offensive one? Though I doubt they would do anything like this, cause they'd probably just ban the player's account for repeated offences. But, if say 100 different players had slightly different versions of the offensive skin, they'd have to create some algorithm to detect similar skins that have small differences.

There is a reason why online interaction isn’t rated. Getting your username or skin banned removes creativity and is just plane stupid. Imagine if someone reports your skin or name that are important to your brand and now you can’t use it. There should just be an option to mute people in chat, as well as hide names and skins, for specific people and in general. It should be left up to players, not Microsoft. If they really want it, it should be reported people are muted in chat, or have their skin or name hidden by default unless you enable a setting. That way players still have agency, in a game all about creativity. What’s next? You can only play approved mini games? Build approved builds?

Remember when players regulated things, including banning players on their own servers and removing inappropriate skins from their MC skins sites? What’s happening? Why is Mojang suddenly taking away our relevancy and power and deciding we’re all too young and untrustworthy to take care of such things the way we normally do? See, I’ve seen companies hire fan/mod developers, *including Mojang* like the guy behind the Aether mod, and I’ve also seen companies utterly abuse copyright laws for anything that remotely uses something made by them. I’ve yet to see one do such an opposite act as this; treating players like irresponsible brats who need something to help us understand how to perform these acts and all. Minecraft is being dumbed down by developers who don’t realize how many of their players aren’t six years old and are turning it into a game that poorly talks down to children. I still remember when people used to act like being a Minecraft player was a stigma, along with Roblox and now Fortnite? Yeah, if Mojang still continues to go down this path that’ll even make their own server-relevant commands seemingly pointless, that’s inevitably coming back, and most likely the comebacks and other responses are gonna feel like they’ll come down on Minecraft players much harder. I wanna feel like we still matter again, that we’re relevant and mean something to Minecraft’s larger community, not little kids who need help blowing our noses and scream and smash daddy’s keyboard because we got killed by a Creeper. Cause the majority of us aren’t. This sudden shift from helping adventure map players to watering down Minecraft’s system is weird in its own way.
