A folding tip: First thing to do when folding it up is loosening the big black plastic screw/wheel under the steering wheel and folding the steering wheel itself down 90 degrees, then you attach the velcro strap to the plastic screw. This way it takes less space, is easier to move and I think that is how they intended it to be done. Also, you can just set the velcro strap to a sizeable length and pull it over the screw, that way you don't have to re-attach it every time.

Had mine 5+ years, it's used every day and it's still going strong, made my own shifter mount with bits laying around in the shed. I got mine on offer for 100 quid n they seem to have increased in price since I bought it, if it's 160 quid I'd probably just save a little longer and buy a solid rig but if ya a casual racer/drifter it does the job ✌️

I got one of these last year based on this video and another. I gotta be honest, it's a year old and holding up great. It's definitely not perfect, but I think you get a lot for the money. I think it's a very impressive piece of kit. I dont know that you could significantly improve for twice the cost while retaining the fold away features it has. I think the best part is there's no center post in between your feet.

I have the Playseat Challenge as well, love it because its easy to store away after use. You have to loosen the knob screw under the steering wheel and fold it in then the velcro strap from the headrest holds the knob screw for more compact/slim seat when folded up. Just a tip ;)

This was the main reason last night I ordered this over the Next Level GT Lite. The foldability is quicker and storage footprint is smaller for the Playseat Challenge, and since my baby's playroom is also my sim racing room this is a must to quickly change out.

steering wheel folds into seat just release the screw bracket and it gets even slimmer for putting against wall etc. Its a great wee seat no need to get a great big set up this is great for VR , recommend quest 2 with virtual desktop ..

Whatever else, it’s a great seat for the cat! I couldn’t persuade mine to get out. Me, I got a stiff neck and shoulders after a while, I never got the backsupport just so. If you have one, invest in getting it right. Also, I broke the pedal footplate getting in and out. It’s unsupported in the middle. Fixable with a piece of wood, but a bit of a missed opportunity

I have 2 of these and they're great if you're short on space! Unfortunately, there have been a few problems with them though, however, Playseat have great customer service and have issued me with replacement parts each time with no quibble! There is a major flaw with the clamping mechanism which holds the plate in place for the wheel (I have gone through 3 of these wheel mounting tube-sections). The problem with it is there is not enough thread in the thickness of the hollow, steel tube, so when it's tightened against the backside of the tube (inside), the entire rigidity of the base-plate relies upon this tiny amount of thread which eventually strips and the bolt moves inside the tube, allowing the wheel to pivot up and down quite dramatically. I tried metal-epoxy on the inside of the tube where the bolt would touch and around the thread, but still failed. To permanently fix this, I cut the tube on both sides of the bolt, creating a gap, then got some 18mm (I think it was) steel bar to fit inside the tube with a newly drilled and tapped hole in the middle for the new bit of studding, replacing the old bolt. Ideally the steel bar would be welded to the original tube but instead, I drilled and tapped some M6 allen bolts each side to hold it firmly in place. It's a shame it had to come to that and I can't be the only one this has happened to. I'm using a G29 too, so would never think about using anything heavier on it as standard. A seat frame also went crack on my one day and actually split on the left side, not far from where the wheel mounting tube would be inside the seat part. Playseat wanted photo's of this one, to which they sent me out a new seat frame. I weigh 11 stone btw, if it matters lol Also, one of the red locks on the pedals would rotate forever (Maybe I stripped the thread, but it didn't take much), so I use a ratchet strap on the pedal frame to stop any extending. On a positive note though and it really helps I think, I have raised the pedals up by about 10 inches or so, using 2 lengths of 2x1 wood to go under each side of the pedal frame with 2 short legs made of 1x1 braced together making an H (when seen from the back). In VR and RSS Formula Hybrids, it's how it's meant to be! lol ...Easier to modulate the brakes too, in that position I find. I am going to try your cork idea, too, which I seen before I watched this! :D Hope this helps someone 👍

On the wheel deck if you completely remove it and rotate it 180 degrees horizontally you can get even more positions. For the G27 I was able to get the most distance away from me by doing this.

Playseat challenge worked for me for a year. With csl elite wheel over the months it developed horrible flex. I did some simple mod to fix this with a pair of strong leather strings... My biggest complaint is the comfort. I tend to do longer driving sessions and I developed a bit of a neck pain if I sit in it for few hours. Don't let this discourage you because it's amazing sim "rig" of you don't have space or your better half does not allow you to set up permanent rig in your living room 😅 You can fold this thing in 10 sec and hide it behind the couch. In the end of the day it's great entry level chair that beats wheel strapped to ironing board every day. Also it is better than any of the wheel stands since there is no way you will push pedals away from you. I have a load cell pedal on it and it works fine with it too. FYI I'm 6 feet tall. And I'm on the limit of comfort in it.

I love my challenge seat, for such a cheap seat its surprisingly comfortable I've easily sat 4/5 hours and only started to feel some discomfort towards the 5 hour mark. I love the seating position you really fit in snug even for a big lad like myself it feels very race car like with how low the seat sits.

Great review man, and I agree wholeheartedly! I've had one for a couple of years now and I absolutely love it. The kit I've got mounted to it these days has got quite ridiculous (and heavy), and almost certainly isn't what Playseat intended when they built it, but it's held up just fine. With a bit of 3D printing, woodwork and good old fashioned bodging my Playseat Challenge currently holds: Fanatec CSL Elite wheel Fanatec Clubsport V3 pedals Fanatec Clubsport Shifter V1.5 (mounted using a pair of knock-off Ram mounts from China) Logitech Trackball mouse 2 x Nobsound USB amplifiers 2 x Dayton Audio Puck bass shakers (1 attached to the pedals, 1 in a foam lumbar support cushion) 1 x fucking massive Monacor bass shaker (mounted underneath the seat on a piece of MDF, strapped to the back "legs" of the chair using cable ties) It weighs a ton now, but still folds down and can be stored in a cupboard when not in use. Everything is rock solid, aside from a very, very small amount of play in the wheel, which is unavoidable without adding a clumsy support rod, which makes it difficult to get in and out of. The play is really not an issue, as you just don't notice it when you're driving. In fact, it actually helps transfer the force feedback through the entire seat. Likewise with the bass shakers, the whole thing rumbles your arse off, but it still gives you useful feedback (pedal rumble when the front wheels clip a kerb or when you lock up, a thump in the back when you change gear and general all over rumble from the engine and road surface). In VR it feels absolutely incredible. Next on my list is a folding keyboard mount and a VR headset hanger (both 3D printed). I honestly can't believe how good this thing is with a few mods. Yes, ideally I'd have a proper rig, but it's not an option due to the fact I'm crammed into the corner of my living room. Can't recommend it highly enough! As you found in your video, the lumbar support is a must. Without it I got awful neck ache within minutes. With the lumbar support I can (and do, frequently) sit in it all night. In fact it's so comfortable I use it when watching movies. Top bit of kit! One thing I will say is that with all that stuff mounted to it, the standard velcro straps are not up to the job of keeping it folded up, so I bought a cheap bungee cord off eBay for a couple of quid. Sorted.

Great review mate, I bought mine a year ago but this video came as a recommended so I went out and watched it xD I cannot recommend the playseat challenge enough, I had mine for a year and a few months, I’m playing on it every day and it’s phenomenal, it still looks and feels like new, the quality is great. I still use mine, I've had it for a year or two. It works great, holds my 6'4", 255lb self just fine. My only complaint is that it's a bit too narrow, it does pinch the thighs a little for me. But, I'm a big guy. I actually just ordered some pole Vesa mount things so I can attach my sticks for space sims to it. Some people complain that it's shaky, and it is a little, but to me that's a benefit. The FFB on my T300RS GT transfers through it and makes it shake a little (I use high FFB), which to me adds to the immersion.

@@user43502 yes, sure, it cracks and squeeks sometimes. Also the steering wheel can't be moved forward but its ok. For the money its a really good chair, also the possibility to fold it and put it out of the living room is a big plus! Once you race you don't care about the issues I mentioned above. Only thing I hate it the the pedals are mounted. The screws that will hold it in place are a bit to loose, even when they are screwed all the way in. I put a rubber mat u derneath It so it's gone. Also it's possible to just put a screw in it but that's the real issue I got. Further it's a nice chair for the money.

Perfectly summing it all up, very good video. Before VR, I had a solid, self built Rig. But with VR came the need for more space for all the activities besides SimRacing, so I deceided to get one of these. I was surprised from the first moment on, how sturdy this thing is, for it looks like a flimsy gardenchair. But as soon, as you sit in it, you stabilise it with your own body. Using it with a T500RS and now with a TS-XW, I just can say, it handles the forces with no problems. Also some nice sideeffect, the forces are transmitted through the whole seat, because its so light. That gives you a nice rumble, you don´t get from heavy rigs. Totally great rig, not just for the ones with small budget or little space. So no matter, if you are coming from an office chair at a desk or a bulky spaceconsuming rig, you really should give this a try. I never regretted, to get one, a few years ago.

You seem like such a down to earth guy, Karl, I really enjoyed watching some of your videos. Thank you for this one, I know what I'll be getting in the next month or so since black friday is just around the corner. It sucks to actually keep it on my desk and at times I tend to use to my left foot for the brake pedal in gt3 making me slide on my seat or the pedals just get kicked forward.
