‘Fairytale of New York’ is one of the Greatest Xmas Songs ever made and it’s now become my favourite Xmas song. The reason is because this year I was in hospital for 4 months battling Encephalitis, same as Shane MacGowan did and also Meningitis (Meningoencephalitis) since my 27th birthday in February, a few months after Shane MacGowan’s passing. But I’ve survived it all and back on my feet again, alive and well. Looking forward to a good Xmas and a much better year for 2025. 💚 RIP Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl. RIP Shane. I dont normally make such comments but this is a very special song at any time of the year. Music as a whole not just Christmas music is richer for this song. I will never not cry when I hear this song especially when I hear the line "I've got a feeling this years for me and you" because I've mentally struggled for years and whenever I heard that line it warms my body up and a part of my brain thinks they're right this years going to be special and kind to me, in a world that can truly be daunting and anxiety ridden to think about at times.
