Massive gratitude to this wonderful human being. His translations and commentaries have helped me realize 🙏 his attention to detail, while also not placing undue importance on detail, is really appreciated.

That’s a beautiful understanding of Chinese culture , so well shared with a Chinese and a Westerner. This is a rare happening , and should be cherished by all who love the Chinese classics .

It's also important to know that in Chinese tradition a practioner lives in back alley is also practicing if not more difficult than hermits in the moutains. Da Yin Yu Shi 大隱於市.

Really interesting discussion, very entertaining. I hope you can do more interesting stories like this. Would be good to watch a documentary about the hermits but I can understand if they don't want to be on camera or be disturbed. Interview some of the hermits who have "come back down the mountain to teach"

In the west the closest I think would be Druids of Ireland, they thought like hermits

There seems to have been a tradition in later Christian Ireland for hermit traditions also. The Irish island of Skellig Michael has the remains of a Christian hermitage. This anonymous eleventh century poem from the book A Celtic Miscellany, also speaks to a similar tradition: "I have a hut in the wood, no one knows it but my Lord; an ash tree this side, a hazel on the other, a great tree on a mound encloses it. Two heathery door-posts for support, and a lintel of honeysuckle; around its close the wood sheds its nuts upon fat swine. The size of my hut, small yet not small, a place of familiar paths; the she-bird in its dress of blackbird colour sings a medodious strain from its gable. The stags of Druim Rolach leap out of its stream of trim meadows; from them red Roighne can be seen, noble Mucraimhe and Maenmhagh. A little hidden lowly hut, which owns the path-filled forest. Will you go with me to see it?"

That means she is not a honest person, she doesn’t need secret at all, all she behaved and facial reaction was so superficial and fake.

The term Confucian or Confucianism philosophy is a misnomer and inappropriate. Better with Sagacious Confucius Teachings . Wisdom and philosophy is of different levels. One may love philosophy yet not wise. As such people like Laozi Confucius Lieh-tzu or Liezi Zhuangzi are Sage and their wisdom emanates and enlightening. As such they are venerated as Sage. Confucius or Kongzi Laozi and Bhagavat Buddha Mahavir are contemporary and truly bless humanity with peace compassion love wisdom harmony unity.

i don't think i've ever read better books than the "zen baggage" and "road to heaven" travelogs by honorable red pine i also recommend his superb translations in "zen roots - the first thousand years" 禪不僅僅是一個冥想坐墊,它是你整天都在做的事情 雖佛滿十方,非禪修無成佛...🎶🔔 🌲

a good cup of tea, rain on the roof and a radiant sunset need no translation but the dozens of red pine books equally convey a rich experience esp when combined with the many big picture talks and books from alan watts...🌀
