This man is brilliant. Have read many of his books and I love his stories but in case anyone is wondering. If you listen to one interview, you've heard them all. Every interviewer asks him the same questions in the same order. Amituofo!

True. I kind of wish the interviewers had read the books, or even 1 poem, & could then start asking new & informed questions. But he's a treasure, a doorway to true treasure.

wow, after reading his translations (and books) for many years, that was the first time I heard him read a poem in the natural language. So beautiful. Thank you

Bill Porter is definitely a Bodhisattva, what a task to take on the translation of Pureland sutras, Diamond sutra, and other sutras I just cannot imagine the complexity and difficulty for a mortal man. Many many lives must have been honored to achieve what he knows in addition to higher forces that work with him.

Love the chanting of the poems by Red Pine. This kind of chanting is not practiced by many people in China now. I am so happy to hear him bringing this tradition.alive again!!

I read the transcript of this interview and thought I would elucidate a reference in the final Stonehouse poem that Porter presented in the interview: The line "Mountains and streams explain Bodhidharma's meaning" is probably a nod to a poem by the more well-known Su Shi (aka Su Dongpo) with the Chinese title of . Dogen, founder of the Japanese Soto Zen school, also has a chapter on Mountains and Streams in his most well-known work, the Shobogenzo (正法眼藏 for those of you keeping score at home). Hope someone else finds this comment useful someday...

Bill Porter is bringing the Dharma back to China despite his initial intent to introduce the ancient hermit practice of ancient China to America with his books.

If poems are sung in China, then they are much like music here in the US. Many people without degrees can sing along with their favorite songs. I see a parallel.
