Most voters did not vote for him and did not want him. Will China find a way to make an example of someone just to send a message to Taiwan’s leaders; the message being China will deal aggressively against leaders wrecking a peaceful reunification. That way the leaders will realize they can not escape with their families after leading Taiwan into another Libya/Syria/Iraq/Ukraine. The message will be zero forgiveness and zero hope for leaders who think they can flee to America and leave behind a destroyed Taiwan.

That is correct. The island of Taiwan is a sovereignty issue. Whether the DPP presidential candidate recently won the ROC Presidential election is immaterial because Lai Ching-Te won 40%, with the other 60% disagreeing with his belief in Taiwan's Independence. DPP's failure to gain control of the ROC Legislative Assembly no longer permitted DPP to do what they wanted, like before, which impacted the United States' interest. To recover the sovereignty of Taiwan, 60% of voters disagree can bring about change through their political parties represented in the Legislative Assembly, but only the truth must be told - "where is the Sovereignty of Taiwan?"

If they haven't done anything on these basic needs in the last 8 years of DPP rule, what makes you think this new President can do anything? The decline in Taiwan's economy was recent. This election shows that the people are clearly tired of DPP. Heck, he has even lost majority vote in Parliament. I guess , we will see more of the chair throwing, hair pulling, innards flinging antics in Taiwan parliament this year. And if the DPP are not afraid of China, then why have they spent so much time, money and energy currying favor from the US, and buying outdated military equipment instead of solving its people's issues? There is a lot of personal interests at stake. China has always said they will not be the cause of any bloodshed in Taiwan, unless Taiwan or its allies, do something stupid first to cross the red lines which are very clearly stated. That will be treason on Taiwan's part. But you are also right - no one need be afraid of China. China prefers a relationship base on friendship rather than coercion. The tiny island nation of Nauru handed a congratulatory present to Taiwan by severing diplomatic ties with it, officially recognizing China and announced that they now only see Taiwan as a part of China.

The whole world including US knows that Taiwan has bn China internal affairs for thousands of yrs. But as China is rising rapidly and will soon be at par economically or militarily with that of US, hence US gullible but arrogant politicians are using Taiwan as a pawn to go against China. Taiwan’s DPP party is full of political opportunists who are highly corrupted but as they hv won d recent election, US will continue to use Taiwan as a pawn. As US politicians are mostly law graduates, hence they will think of all kinds of legal jargon to renege on their predecessors’ promises and treaty signed of one-China policy. But as US is declining gradually and soon they will realise that they are no longer able to continue to be antagonistic against China.
