for the shiny pokemon thing, it used to be, in the very first game, that the IV code, aka, small stat boosting randomness, would decide if mon is shiny, making it so a shiny was ACTUALLY A SIGN OF HIGH STATS. nintendo, of course, got rid of this feature. adding an edit: not the first game, the first COLOR game. aka, Silver & Gold. the shinies were originally to show off the games first time in color on a handheld. the IVs were used, not to show you had a strong mon, but just for the randomness. and fun fact, in Silver and Gold, the only Unown you could get to be shiny ,were I and V, because the letters were chosen the same way as shininess.

Shinies in gen 2 could never have perfect IVs, meaning in practice it always means you aren't using the strongest version of the species when using the shiny. It wouldn't be until gen 7 with Bottle Caps that og the gen 2 era shinies could have Best in any stat.

@@TheDigitalWatcher By making shinies determined by DVs, Pokemon like Unknown and Spinda would have certain forms have shinies that are ridiculously harder to obtain shiny since DVs also influenced what form of a Pokemon you encountered if it had multiple. By changing it to only calculate off of the secret ID alone it made all Pokemon regardless of form or species equally accessable to be shiny. At least until gen 5 started the shiny locking train, anyway.
