I am also free to play and, honestly, I really enjoy the game. More even now that I can get free stuff from showcases! I used to have 0 incubators, starpieces, incenses,... now I always get them. It also helped finding people I can raid with. Three months ago I had around 5 legendaries from researchs, now I have 60ish :)

A million potions for $10 would be mathematically valuable, but most players wouldn't see ten dollar potions as worth spending money on. The value also decreases with the paid events, because the benefits disappear soon after purchase.

It was fine when it seemed like they were testing the waters with this. There would be a free research line for an event with an optional paid ticket giving an additional research line. Now, it feels like if you don't buy a ticket then you don't really experience much of the "event."

After I didn't manage to do the event in time I learned that it was a reward for completing the event ;( I lost my money. I own a local chocolate business that used to have increasing sales year over year. We used to give away free samples at our store, and customers would always end up buying something because they loved our product. During the pandemic lockdown, we introduced a golden chocolate bar and offered to ship them to consumers for free to keep our business operating. Our sales skyrocketed! We had an endless supply of these bars and customers were buying 30, sometimes 50, bars a week! However, once the lockdown ended, we made the decision to limit the amount of golden chocolate bars people could buy to five a week and we almost doubled the price. Customers were very unhappy and wrote us letters and even posted videos on KZbin begging us to reconsider this decision. Alas, we never intended to become a business that shipped chocolate bars to people so we ignored the complaints. Also, we stopped giving away free samples at our store and now charge $1. Oddly, since we made these decisions our sales have somehow plummeted and we've been scratching our heads to figure out why that is.

At this point the amount of tickets is just so overwhelming to me that I don't buy any of them. In the past I occasionally got the C-Day-Researches and the special event researches like Go Fest and some other. But now it feels like you have evaluate almost every (other) week if the new ticket is worth the price and to me that's just too much for a game I just want to enjoy and have fun playing.

​@albertchan4120 boxes have been different for a WHILE now, like a year+. Ever since the last time you saw the standard 3 prices, that was when all these boxes became different. BTW, as someone who miiiiiiight have a few sources (and phones) the boxes are truly random. Between my account and "lower tiers", I have never seen a trend as to if you play more or less and the types of boxes you aquire. To anyone looking for boxes, here is what i would do. (I don't buy them BUT) I would put all boxes into an excel sheet, with their respective items. Price them out, and see which gets you the most bang for your buck respectively. If you raid, does the 10 passes at 625, 15 at 999, or 15 at 1025 with premium items make sense? Honestly past that, it's all a waiting game until the box comes back but usually after 2 weeks I see them all again.

As a free to play player, I have felt an increasing pressure to buy tickets just to enjoy the game at the same level as my friends. My town has a great in person group which is nice. For the Sinnoh tour, I want to be able to keep up with them. I'll probably have to become a pay to play player which is something I never thought I'd want to do. One thing that I don’t believe you mentioned is that there’s a community where players been charged twice for transactions multiple times and it’s becoming an issue.

The only problem I have with the Go tickets other than some of them being stupid expensive only to give so little out of it (compared to community days $0.99 tickets) is that most of them aren’t given out as special research task (the ones we get to keep permantly even if the event ends) but rather Limited time events which we as the players gotta scurry to complete them as fast as we can and if we don’t welp..bai bai $5

Last ticket I bought was the Melmetal research with the Willow outfit, but once I realized 90% of the people where I lived also bought it, I was immediately put off from wearing it and just went back to the outfit I made before from pvp rewards. If you care about customizing your character, odds are you don't want it to look like every other one 🤷‍♂ That said, the sad part isn't stupid poses or outfits being sold, it's that research that used to be free is now paid, rewards that used to be included as event bonuses are now paywalled. I can imagine down the line a second Giovanni research being offered for $5, until it's eventually fully paywalled and the game becomes even more pay2win. Honestly, don't care since I have pretty much everything I'll ever need, but you're really screwing over newer players for a quick buck.

My husband and I tried the Eggspedition pass last month and I loved having the incubators and actually able to hatch eggs (I am a stay home mom so dragging 2 kids everywhere I go makes walking just to hatch eggs very difficult), but for 2 of us that was $10 for a month and way too much money. I'm kind of bummed I feel like I missed the hay day of Pokemon go. I was an OG player and played from 2016 up until about 2018, and then life got busy and I took a Hiatus until just last year. Seems like all of the good stuff really happened around the 2018 to 2021 window.

Niantic is the former Google Earth/Maps team, they're a geo-mapping company, not a game company. Pokemon Go is a way to get people to AR map the world for them for free, instead of having to pay a fortune for it like other companies. They nerfed remote play not for community but because they need to get people out mapping for them again, that's the most important thing for the company. Tickets let them recoup the short-term profits of nerfing remote pay, while maintaining the long-term goal of getting people out mapping for them again. They're decisions aren't good for players or community, which makes no sense if you mistake them for a game company, but if you remember they're a mapping company who wants crowd-sourced but proprietary AR mapping data, it makes all the sense in the world for them

I literally brought the Drampa ticket expecting to at least try to get a shiny and nada! I ended up not catching a shiny ( which I already knew I would have a low percentage of getting.) Great video! I'm one of the few people that doesn't mind Niantic making remote raids difficult & expensive, even tho I don't live near any city. What I do have a problem with is making shadow raids not available to remote players...I'm at level 48 and still don't have a shadow legendary. Some tickets are good (shiny Mew), most tickets are worthless. Niantic needs to think outside-the-box a little and offer things such as PvP rankings lock, and long-distance lucky trades.

The trend to lock more and more features that were once free behind a paywall is annoying me a lot. All the extra bonusses are now only available if you open your wallet.. And I do not mind to have paid options for actual extr's, like increased shiny odds or research for certain regionals (which will also be available for free a few months down the road during gofest). All this made me leave pokemon Go in the start of 2023 itself and I had a big problem I was stuck cause I had my backpack full with all the useful stuff that I cant sell or get rid of and my Pokemon storage was full to and I had all pokemon that are useful not that I can transfer so I couldn't catch any pokemon or spin any pokestops and I don't put money in any games so I didn't even have enough pokecoins to buy storage for both of them I collected a lot of pokecoins and bought pokemon storage till 400 but now I am stuck and my backpack till 550 or 500 and now I am stuck so I had to leave the game and now when I see this video that almost everything is paid so players like me can't play even though we want to 😢

Love this video topic!! It's a great one to cover as it is a sensitive one! I know that I've been super bummed out when the Egg Ethus and Raid Lover add ons were ONLY offered to the in person/destination events, not the global. If you're going to offer it Niantic, offer it to everyone. I do agree that it is getting out of hand AND that the tickets are not always worth the money. I'm not someone who spends a ton of money on PoGo but I do spend money on Go Fest and Tour, both Global because I can't afford to travel to the destinations. I have noticed the cost fluctuations since I started playing in 2019. I haven't been thrilled with the increase in cost and then the increase of ticketed events/researches. I agree, if it was FREE, LEAVE IT ALONE. Yes of course this company needs to make money to continue the game, but like you said Daxie, find another way. The problem is that a lot of players pay the tickets, so if you pay, they are gonna charge more tickets and for more money, what players forget is that the players are in charge, i don't get why people complain and still buy. Microtransactions are the worst thing that appeared in videogames

While it's more cost efficient for me to just buy Pokecoins, I'm spending more effort on getting Pokemon in gyms all to avoid giving Niantic any money. I will not give them a dime and I know a lot of other people that feel the same. I used to spend at least $20 a month on Pokemon go, but now the only way I get coins is gyming.

They should just admit they were wrong about remote raids and revert what they did. If they want to promote trainers going outside then they should increase those rewards for doing so. I like the ideas of party play and routes but the rewards need a major bump up to get people outside more.I agree that the "Bonuses" are what should be the free for everyone and the paid should be the premium items and more encounters etc. It just seems like a lot of paid research going around and I just start to ignore it at this point.

I remember the regigigas research!!! My fiancé made a whole date out of it. It was a lot of fun and a special way to get to play Pokémon go. Plus the medal it gave you made it a little more special. Idk why it don’t do much but it was fun to get lol!!

Make it 20 or more remote raids per day... but make the rewards for in person raids better than they are now... more XP, more stardust, more candy, more rare candy etc It helps the rural player get more raids if they want and it rewards the people playing the way they invision. That will generate more revenue.

I'm basically F2P, but I have no problem buying tickets for GoFest. I'd probably buy a city safari ticket if it came to Chicago, too. Yeah, the taking former free things and making them pay sux. I try and avoid the shop these days. I remember when there was always a box for 1280 coins with a pile of incubators and a few raid passes. I would buy one a month. Now, I rarely buy a box, and only the good value ones. Seriously, I'm sitting on almost 8,000 coins earned exclusively from gyms, but don't see anything worth buying other than storage now and again. Drop remote raid pass to 150 coins per or 3 for 400, and increase the daily limit to 10-15. And put the legendaries back in the 7 day streak box. They are already heavily down the Pay To Win path, throw the free players a bone to ease your conscience. Or, increase the cap on free coins to earn. This would mean players would more easily be able to do their raid hours for free with the coins they earned that week, but people who want to do 20 raids a day still paying significant cash.

Hate to say it, Daxi, but I think that we can expect everything that was once free being paywalled. People literally pay for stuff that they already have everyday and they buy them for others. Going F2P post-RRP nerf was one of the best decisions I made and I don't see myself ever going back. If Niantic doesn't care about my happiness, I could care less about theirs.

I didn’t mind all the paid event tickets because when someone buys them they are probably happy with it all feel good about what they’re getting because it’s their choice but when they takes things from the free staff and put it on a paywall it’s annoying like they can just give them just the same bonus everyone gets for free but double or something it’s would just make way better imo

I really don’t understand why Niantic insist on being so stingy with the tickets and the boxes. It’s not as if you are bound by the same restraints as physical goods; they are digital, they are fictitious and they are in endless supply. Firstly, if revenue is their problem, then it is a completely self-inflicted issue. Remote raid passes are the answer. Stop trying to subsidise revenue in other sources that are just not worthwhile. Why would I keep buying a ticket when all I get is some potions, a chance at something like more candy and like 300 XP. Honestly, this game just doesn’t reward you very well for playing it as FleeceKing complains about all the time; why keep making things a chance? Give some certainty for a change, say that a ticket will guarantee you an extra 3XL candies or something. Why does everything have to be a chance? It doesn’t, it’s the same with only having a chance at seeing Mateo or spawning a Zyguard cell at the end of a route. No wonder why nobody does them because they’re just there’s no point the rewards are crap and everything is still chance based. Actually reward people for the time and effort that they put in. It’s the same when the raid days mess up or Niantic mess up every time they release an update in the app. Unlike other gaming companies which actually give players a compensation gift as it’s all just digital, Niantic just say ‘yo sorry about that’ on twitter, and if you’re lucky you might get a free potion or a raid pass, despite the insane amount of time, effort, energy, and everything that has been wasted and probably way more than one single raid pass worth of raid passes. They almost gaslight you into a stance of ‘well you shouldn’t be playing the game if you expect it to be good’. They just come across is so stingy and there’s no need for it; very Nintendo, like in almost having a disdain for their own player base. They are $1 billion plus entity with a digital only asset that means nothing. And yet they would rather hoard these things then make people happy. It’s just insane to me.

90% of the events in 2023 were garbage. I really enjoyed many of the events when I started in 2020 all the way up to 2022. Once remote raids got nerfed and niantic began trying to make money in other ways, it absolutely killed the game for me. I still play it, but I’ve been playing at about 20% of what I had been (or less). Despite more things to spend money on I’ve drastically reduced how much I spend on the game. I really do not like the direction the game is going. I have only been playing the game for maybe 4 days each month now. I used to play for a decent bit about 5 or 6 days a week. The game has seriously lost its appeal for me.

I stopped playing between the day they announced the remote raid changes in April 2023 and January 2024. I had to laugh when I realized they were making up for all of the remote raid revenue they threw away by taking things away from us and demanding we pay them to get them back via tickets. Pretty much waiting for Mega TTar to come back so I can spend gym coins on it and the opportunity to lucky trade my GF a shiny Rowlet, and I'm out again. They can continue to not get a penny out of me for how they treat the playerbase.

I understand where you're coming from, but we still get a free raid pass every day and if you really want the pokémon behind pay walls you're not just a casual player anymore so it's then OK you have to pay in my opinion to get what you want (still not guaranteed of course since we know it can cost a lot of effort and money to meet some shinies and never a guarantee we actually meet it even if we pay). Still lots of totally free pokémon to catch and still coins to earn in the gym. We who want to pay can just not buy if it's not worth it for us. Me for one don't really care about catching every shiny pokémon if they're not useable - unless I really love the look of the shiny. Most pokémon aren't actually that useable (I don't use time on PvP anymore except on Go Battle Weeks) or I would spend too much money for sure. I love most shiny strong Legendary pokémon which is my problem - I sometimes paid a lot to meet them in raids. Anyway, Niantic can easily earn more money if they want - they can make it possible to use 10 remote passes a day and they would probably already earn a million more each day because it's wasting as little time on the game as possible because the game isn't as fun to play anymore. The only real problem in this matter in my opinion are that paid researches as you mention are now not always special and have a time limit. Some other problems though - especially the lack of new exciting features and the lack of gym rework which is highly overdue. They need to make the fundamental gameplay of raids and catching pokémon more exciting again for players who played for years or the game will die and has been slowly dying in my community for a long time. Most of the gameplay is repetitions even with the same pokémon most of the time, so I have more and more breaks and I think many veteran players often have breaks. Some players never return from them and if it wasn't for my love for pokémon in general I probably wouldn't either.

The issue is not the price, but the product. Pokemon Go players have no problem sending a great deal of money to play or buy their way to level 50. You just have to look at the 2020 numbers to see this. In general the players want to buy remote passes so that they can play from their home or work and not have to go out. Niantic is trying to modify our behavior to go out and play. When players buy remote passes they are purchasing convenience the ability to play form home and work. The other products Niantic offers do not provide convenience and therefore do not have the same value.

Niantic’s decisions in 2023 are extremely ignorant to what the community wants. If Niantic listens to players and tries making the game fun, then they will naturally make more money. With each successively stupid decision they make, they conversely make less money and drive more players away. As players become disgruntled and leave, Niantic has to introduce more ways to make money in order to not see a drop in income. But, as they make those decisions, it drives more players away. It’s the horrible cycle Niantic did last year. Then they wonder why people r so upset and they are losing money.

i dont like the tickets ^^ i understand that they need to make money. but when i feel fooled by them its no fun for me anymore. and the remote raid price increase + decrease of chance to catch it ... i can't do any raids anymore cos no one will join mine when i try to invite others. cos i m always alone or we are 2 infront of an arena, and yeah. no chance todo most legendary raids with 2 accounts. even if we are both above lvl 45
