I do wonder if not nessesarily the Pokemon hype/product will crash, but if the general US economy crashed, stocks, inflation, etc. how that would affect pokemon.

I'd expect higher-risk assets to fall, however due to the illiquidity of the pokemon market (i.e. you can't just click a few buttons and sell like on an exchange) it may just be difficult to sell and many will be forced to sell at a lower price point. Obviously depending on whether it's a 2008 type event or not. If it's just a stagnant economy or 'recession-by-definition' then I'd assume it'll just feel like the pokemon tcg dips in popularity and product remains purchasable on the market for much longer than most people are used to, to the point that scalpers back off because you'll actually have to hold product for a few years before you see a return, unlike what we're seeing at the moment.

We can all call a crash and in the future we can look back and say we warned you and we were right. They’re all just view baiting. Crash / cooldown will come but a card that went from 1k->5k->2-3k is a normal market cycle. They will all call it a crash and say they were right.

It’s not about positivity or negativity for some people. However people want supply to meet demand, and as soon as it does, the quick flippers will dump the pallets worth of collective product into the market crashing it, we’ve seen this too many times before. I’ve seen it too many times for this not to be possible.

@@FamousJX a dip isn’t the same as a crash. And pallets worth of packs are ripped everyday in masses due to rip and ship culture. We’re stuck in a time line where Pokemon will not be able to keep up with demand. Demand is on level 10 while the volume of inventory is on 2. This shit will just keep getting swallowed up.

@@alexcastillo3458 ah, I’m not arguing that this isn’t different than the pandemic, or other situations in the past, and there are levels of truth here, however I’ve been alive long enough to have seen similarities in this boom. Do not underestimate the ability for a company to overprint. With differences in this bull market, come differences in the problems that may arise. One example could be, that in previous retracements it was stores and distribution simply demanding inventory to meet the demand they have reported, as now it seems that Pokemon company is getting feedback more directly from consumers. I hold on to the possibility that you are absolutely correct, however stating that “this would never happen “ is a dangerous assertion that has in the history of collectibles has never been true in the short term. Anything is possible, and no one can tell ye future. I would proceed with at least some caution.
