bloodless wolf I have super long hair, it’s past my butt, so unless I put my hair in a bun every time I do art, which isn’t going to happen because buns hurt, I have to keep a decent distance from the paper/canvas so my hair doesn’t smear everything, it’s especially a problem when I paint because I always get paint in my hair

@@glamam3914 I turn 30 in 3 months. I still feel like a clueless 20 year old. Granted, I didn’t get to actually "live" through my 20’s because most of it was destroyed and consumed by chronic illnesses, surgery, doctor appointments, being homebound and bedbound, and having to give up on my bachelors degree and career, despite having made significant progress in my field while still in school and I even had my art being shown in national shows. But I lost all that thanks to illnesses that put my entire life on hold and I will never recover from. So now I’m about to turn 30, disabled and not able to work, nothing of the plans I had made even close to completed, homebound in a shitty little government subsidized low income apartment, and trying to figure out some way that I can finish my degree or at least start back making art for some semblance of a career and point to being alive. And honestly, most people I know my age, even if they have gotten to finish their degrees or work, still feel as lost and overwhelmed as I do. I don’t know why society pressures us to fit all our best years and accomplishments into the teens and 20’s. Those years are usually pretty unstable for everyone and the idea that you’re only relevant during ten or thirteen short years of your entire life, have to do all your exploring of life and yourself and have the blocks in place for your life and career in your 20’s, and can’t do anything "youthful" or creative past 30 is just toxic. Middle age is a term based on the physiological changes in the body, though, yes, society does generally define it arbitrarily too. A YouGov survey in 2018 showed most people agree on middle age begging generally define as 48 to 68 years of age. There’s also this from good old Wikipedia: According to the Oxford English Dictionary, middle age is "the period of life between young adulthood and old age, now usually regarded as between about forty-five and sixty"; however lexico , which is a collaboration between Dictionary and Oxford University Press, states that it is "usually considered as the years from about 45 to 65." The US Census states that the "median age is over 40 years old." Merriam-Webster lists middle age from about 45 to 64, while prominent psychologist Erik Erikson defined middle adulthood as between 55 and 65. The Collins English Dictionary lists it between the ages of about 40 and 60, and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - the standard diagnostic manual of the American Psychiatric Association - used to define middle age as about 55 to 60, but as of DSM-IV (1994) revised the definition upwards to about 55 to 65. A study in prestigious medical journal The Lancet, published in July 2020, defined "mid-life" as being 45-65 years. Therefore, the average age of all of the age ranges mentioned above is 55.56 years of age.
