The drummer is an American named Stewart Copeland, and you're right about his role. He's a great drummer, and has long been ranked in the top 10 best of all time near Neil Peart of Rush and John Bonham of Zeppelin.
@kroft67994 жыл бұрын
Personally I think I actually prefer him to Neil and John. They're all amazing of course just with someone different styles.
@michaelblaydes60374 жыл бұрын
Copeland is light years ahead of Bonham. You can't even put them in the same universe. Bonham was a hard rock/blues guy. Simple. Copeland could play any style he wants, and better the best of each style.
@bbiermanster4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelblaydes6037 Didn't mean to wade into a debate. I didn't say it was my ranking which agrees with you. That's just what you find in the music mags, and it's a way to compare Copeland to some that Jamel already knows are good. Bill Bruford and Ginger Baker should be in the rankings too, but are usually left out.
@sirjer734 жыл бұрын
They all are great. And they all were influenced by the true greats and those are the jazz cats. Too many 2 mention but from big band,swing, hard bop, bop, free bop,modal and fusion the jazz drummers set the template!!!!. I will say Copeland along with the greatest in my mind Tony Williams have the most unique sound to their drum sounds.
@michaelblaydes60374 жыл бұрын
Bill Bruford is the single greatest drummer of all time, hands down. Not meant to debate you, just tired of people overrating John Bonham. Many cite him as the greatest of all time, which is absurd. I love Zeppelin and Bonham was a huge part of their greatness, and he was a bad-ass drummer, but he was limited. And Copeland is one of the most underrated. Peart, on the other hand, pretty much gets the credit he deserved. He was one of the greatest, and is often considered so.

Certain songs just absolutely hit you in those memory holes. This one totally reminds me of driving over the hill to Santa Cruz in my Volkswagen bus to surf. Instantly went right there.

This band was my son's very first concert, in July 2008, on their farewell tour. My son was 12 and loved The Police, and at 23, he still does.

The outside scenes were in Monsterratt in the Caribbean. The steel drums are the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago, and were featured in many songs in the 70's and 80's.

Too bad a volcano later erupted and destroyed the village where they filmed the outdoor sections of the video. A real shame. Feel so bad for those people.

I can relate, about feeling that you just don't connect with today's music like you do with music of another generation. I think a lot of us feel that way! Please react to "Invisible Sun" and "Walking on the Moon" next by the Police for that great Reggae vibe that they do so well. Sting also has a great solo career, check out "Shape of My Heart" and "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free".

Sting already had this song in his pocket when he moved from his home city of Newcastle. He recalled in Daniel Rachel's book of interviews with British songwriters, Isle of Noises: "When I moved to London in 1975, I was struggling to make a living. I auditioned at the Zanzibar in Covent Garden. I sang 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic' and the guy said: 'We need commercial hit songs. We don't need this kind of stuff.'" This song was included on Ghost in the Machine to try and "leaven the rather sober tone of the rest of the record," Sting wrote in Lyrics By Sting. "It was written in 1976, the year I moved to London. I had no money, no prospects, nowhere to live. All I had was Stewart Copeland's phone number and some vague idea of forming a band. It was the year of the Sex Pistols, punk rock, aggressive loud music, violent lyrics, and 'Anarchy In The UK.' And I wrote this song, which tells you how in touch with the times I was."

WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FINGER by them is so gorgeous, if you want to give it a listen. Sting is such a great, metaphorical writer... very smart man.
