Copeland is a truly amazing drummer. His timing is perfect and some of the off-beat and syncopated rhythms he plays are genius. And I can think of no other drummer that can work a hi-hat the way he does. Peter Gabriel is notorious for disliking cymbals - when he records he doesn't even let his drummer's set them up with their kits, but he had Stewart Copeland come to the sessions for So just to play hi-hat on Red Rain, one of my favorite PG songs.

Stuart Copeland (the sole American in the trio) is one of the greatest drummers in the history of rock. His rhythms are so complex and his playing so crisp and technical but still so funky and danceable. It really defines The Police's sound almost as much as Sting's voice.

@@JayveeTV This was one of the BEST concerts I've ever been~ALSO it was my 1st one. My brother took me and the Go Gos were their opening act. I'm pretty sure you've covered them on your channel. THEY actually played long CUZ GET THIS...now talk about being a professional musician ok? Sting aka Gordon Summer...aka MY secret boyfriend at the time LOL! His wife had their first baby that night and he flew in LATE into NY for the concert so he didnt miss it and disappoint his fans. No kidding. Back then you had to basically DIE in order to cancel a show OR even awhile later in music history like in Dimebag Darrels case you had to LITERALLY get shot on stage to stop your concerts. There was none of this baby BS of ppl just have a hissy fit that you see a lotta ppl doing and walking off stage mid concert...and then ppl staying AS their fans. We would've stormed the stage after a walk off move and trashed the equipment and never bought ANOTHER record. Show up and show out! Yiu BETTER be in a hospital or have been in an accident on the sat there man. #RockAndRollRules 😉❤😎🤘

Some people will go on about Sting's songwriting ability and singing. He also is good on the bass Some people will go on about Stuart Copeland's percussion mastery. Not just his drumming but also his high hate and everything else More people should talk about Andy Summers and his strengths. Thing is it was all thee of them that made the Police. Take one out and we would not be talking about them. Go listen to Reggatta de Blanc to see how well they worked together.

FUN FACT: Sting used the lyrics "Do I have tell the story/ Of a thousand rainy days since we first met?/ It's a big enough umbrella/ But it's always me that ends up getting wet" in the song "O My God" from the Synchronicity album. He later used the same lyrics in the song "Seven Days" from his solo album Ten Summoner's Tales.

Thought it was a bold choice to include that verse in a love song like this. Where he spends the rest of the song telling us how wonderful this woman is. Is like they take a bunch of small, good ideas, and cram them together into one song. Like a collage. They dont quite fit together. Except they do fit, because that's what makes this a Police song.

This song, and the album was recorded on the carribean island of Montserrat, and the ppl in the vid were the locals, they just filmed the vid one day, and got a bunch of ppp,to dance--just good times on the islands....Monserrat was destroyed by a volcano in 1996.....so, this footage is especially eerie/cool/historic....the Beatles producer, George Martin built and owned the studio in Monserrat that a lot of rock stars in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s recorded at, it was called “Air studios”

Truth. Any effort toward just intonation brings happiness. Western music has been imprisoned by equal temperament for far too long (that darn piano). Blues artists, later, Jazz and Soul groups tried to break the cycle to good effect. In the last decade, Earth received Jacob Collier from whatever planet it is he was beamed down from to further the message. Bless him. And steel pans, which often stray "out of tune" and are "unprofessionally" corrected toward "Just."

There are so many great choices, Sychronicity II, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Don’t Stand So Close, the Police are iconic. I also like Stung’s solo stuff, Russians, Fields of Golds, Englishman in NY. Great review!

one of the greatest of all time. smart, funny, fun, great musicians and performers. I recommend Driven to Tears to hear (yet) another side of the band.

Always loved this song and the infectious fun of the video. And Stewart Copeland’s work on the drums is so great. Also check out “When the World is Running Down You Make the Best of What’s Still Around.”

This song always reminds me of the movie "The Wedding Singer". Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore romantic comedy. Love It!! 🎶💞
