"Driven to Tears" is a song like this lyrically, but with a driving bass. From their previous album Zenyatta Mendotta

One of a couple songs from The Police banned by the BBC in the UK. This one because it was about the "Troubles", what the government called the sectarian strife in Ireland. Another was "Can't Stand Losing You" because it was deemed to suggest sooicide.

My favourite Police song. Serious content, serious downbeat vibe. Perfect execution. Ghost In The Machine is my favourite Police album. Album tracks like Darkness and Secret Journey are superb counterpoints to the upbeat Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic or the heavy Demolition Man. Such a deep group.

Yeah, I think Ghost is probably their most consistent album actually.

Great one, Teez! The drummer, Stewart Copeland, is known as one of the best; unique, complicated drumming. Another great Police song:”Voices Inside My Head” ; my personal favorite ❤️
@evyatarhadar88672 жыл бұрын
Drums on this track aren't complicated but man do they serve the music perfectly. As well as Andy's haunting guitar cords. Stewart's a master and one of my drumming heroes.

Police were around from 1979 to 1986. Each member went on to successful separate careers. Sting was a very successful solo artist. Andy Summers, guitarist, released a couple solo albums, was in a couple bands, has a career as a high demand session and touring musician, also does scoring for films and television and has had his photography exhibited in several galleries. Stewart Copeland, drummer, is a high demand session and touring musician. He's considered to be among top 10 best drummers of all time. Had a couple solo albums and was part of several groups, and has taken part in several collaborations with other artistes. Has a very successful career as a scorer for movies, tv series and video games and as a composer for ballet, opera and orchestra.

Love the guitar work on Invisible Sun ☀️. The guitar arrangement sticks in my mind and the background vocals give it this melancholy vibe. Deep lyrics that make you reflect. Thanks for a great reaction. Hope you are doing well. 😎🎵🎶🙌-Patricia One, two, three, four, five, six Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh I don't want to spend the rest of my life Looking at the barrel of an Armalite I don't want to spend the rest of my days Keeping out of trouble like the soldiers say I don't want to spend my time in hell Looking at the walls of a prison cell I don't ever want to play the part Of a statistic on a government chart There has to be an invisible sun It gives its heat to everyone There has to be an invisible sun That gives us hope when the whole day's done It's dark all day and it glows all night Factory smoke and acetylene light I face the day with my head caved in Looking like something that the cat brought in There has to be an invisible sun It gives its heat to everyone There has to be an invisible sun That gives us hope when the whole day's done Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh And they're only going to change this place By killing everybody in the human race They would kill me for a cigarette But I don't even wanna die just yet There has to be an invisible sun It gives its heat to everyone There has to be an invisible sun That gives us hope when the whole day's done Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh Whoa-oh, oh, whoa-oh

Sun=son I think, could be wrong but it would make the lyrics more understandable .. the vibrrato sound in the background in my opinion was to give it an industrial feel. One of my favorite albums of the entire decade

This song is about the war in Northern Ireland with a focus on the "prison war" that culminated with a hunger strike in 1981. 10 Irish Nationalists prisoners starved themselves to death(more would have died but family members opted for medical intervention when they fell into a coma). The leader and first hunger striker, Bobby Sands, was elected a Member of the British Parliament during his hubger strike. Thatcher and her government allowed him to die. The demands were quite modest.

There's a great version of this song on the X-Files movie soundtrack, featuring Sting & Aswad... I actually prefer that one to the original Police version. Hope everyone is having a great day! :-)

Sting said he wrote this coming back from Belfast Northern Ireland which was in a war with Britain. The picks were like Belfast in 1979-80.

Very similar to the theme and video for Zombie by the Cranberries re the troubles in Ireland back in the 80s

An excellent band ended by egos, unfortunately. This is one of their best songs, good vid Teez
@ImpartiallySpeaking2 жыл бұрын
You’re joking. Without egos the band wouldn’t have worked in the first place! It was the clash of egos between Sting and Stewart that caused the creative tension and the spark of magic. A reporter on Smash Hits magazine once commented that in order to be at the very top of his game Sting needs something to fight against. And that’s so true! Sadly those days ended in 1985 when creative tensions were substituted by paid session musicians who simply follow instructions and wouldn’t ever dare to challenge Sting’s view on things like Stewart and Andy in the days when firing people just wasn’t an option!
