Wow, I’ve seen Disturbed’s Sound of Silence dozens times since 2020. Explored other covers and full concerts of the band and have become a real fan! I had no clue that they’d covered this? Have always loved Sting and the Police and specifically this song. This cover is incredible! Thank you! I’m a 73 year old grandma, who has loved multiple genres since my parents favorites in the 50s. Added Disturbed to my favorites 2 years ago. I’m more of a rocker, hard rocker, heavy metal listener!

I'm old enough to have been a fan of The Police and then Sting as a solo artist. I've always loved his voice and this song. But ... I think Sting's version fit me at that place I was when it came out and I was much younger. As I've matured, the Disturbed version appeals to me more because it feels more mature and weighted. Life has weighed me down and what was a bop from Sting suddenly became introspective in a way it never was before. So I do love them both for what they brought to specific times in my life, but Disturbed is the one I have on my playlist today. Great reaction - I love the comparison and you immediately jumped to the conclusions I came to only after I had watched their video a few times. It makes you think though, doesn't it?
@rosalieelliottofficial Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and how the songs have impacted you. That makes a lot of sense. I love the reflection and introspection on your part. How it fit during different seasons of life. I think that’s a great way to approach music and allow it to be art and mean different things at different times. And yes. It def makes you think.

The outward look in Sting's and the inward reflection in Disturbed's contrast completely and change the whole meaning of the lyrics. I love them both. Thanks for taking the chance with my suggestion. I'm happy you liked Disturbed's version.

This was released right in the height of the early Covid lockdown. Everyone was scared and lonely and wondering if anything would ever be the same again. Reimagining this quirky little love song into _this,_ into not losing faith in _yourself,_ was precisely what we needed in that moment. It's still chilling and moving now, but when it came out, it just freaking steamrolled me. Over and over, tears streaming down my face...

Yeah, this one is definitely about believing in oneself. Very powerful message!

I love Disturbed's covers. Starting with Land of Confusion and ISHFWILF (I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For), Shout, and of course Sound of Silence. So amazing live.
@justinburhns328 Жыл бұрын
They kept it very simple so you have a somber tone for impactful lyrics. The chorus got some energy and potency because it highlights the motivational aspect of not giving up. I'm not a huge Disturbed fan, but I love what they did here. For a cover of something from 30-35? Years ago, it was a solid revamping. It was a pretty good choice for the parallels where current events, etc pop those lyrics into relevant dialogue.

They released this when COVID hit and everyone was isolated. NOTE FROM DISTURBED: We have loved this song for a long time, and even though it was released in 1993, it seems strangely applicable to today's world. The song is about losing faith, and might initially sound pessimistic, but it's about the importance and power of personal relationships, and how they can save you and provide solace in an increasingly confusing world.

Keep in mind that this came out in the fall of 2020, at the height of the pandemic people's faith in the world around them was really shaken and there was so much confusion due to conflicting information. It really was a time when it felt like the only person that you could really believe in was yourself.

Sting is for me up there in the top five musical geniuses in recent times. I include Thom Yorke/Jonny Greenwood (can’t separate them) and Lana Del Rey.
I didn't even know that this song was a cover song and the Sting version was amazing but I prefer Disturbed and David vocals just feels like it was their own song 🖤🤘

I definitely agree with you on the idea of this warning about a loss of faith in oneself. All of the people (aside from the creepy politician) are looking at either their own reflection or shadow. It's not the heavy impact of the Sound of Silence cover, but it gets under your skin...

I've watched many of the reactions to this song on KZbin, and you are (I'm almost certain) the 2nd who has gotten the symbolism of the reflections. I suppose it is worth mentioning, that Sting (particularly with The Police) has a habit of putting extremely heavy subject matter behind a lighter musical facade. The meaning in a lot of these lyrics is pretty blatant, but Disturbed managed to come up with a different stance to the same meanings, and I think that's kind of impressive.

@deaseil Жыл бұрын
I am also old enough to remember when the original came out and, to be honest, it didn't have any particular impact on me. It was quite a nice song but that was as far as it went. However the disturbed version does, and it is not only because of the harder edge in places, but also the fact that it is changing the message to having faith in yourself. As someone who struggles with this, it became that much more powerful.

New sub here, in truth your reaction to *No Leaf Clover by Metallica S&M* brought me to your channel, but the last few hours I was bingeing on your Tom Macdonald (of which I am now here to join you on your journey ((Hollywood has been given the marching orders to desensitize people to the point of apathy for the real world, so the powers that be can profit off of our demise. Tom Macdonald, with others like minded, who do not want to see this great country tear itself apart by distraction and misunderstanding and have taken the very tool Hollywood has used to put us to sleep, to wake us up and Tom's fan base, like others are growing, so I a great feeling the sleeping giant, ain't so sleepy anymore)). One thing I can say about Disturbed, is some of their catalog is not for the faint of heart, I doubt anyone would ever think of them as a cover band, but they do a masterful job of the covers that they do...do. I would like to recommend Genesis' *Land of Confusion* doing a back to back, definitely gives you a better feel for what was and what is to come. I really appreciate the truth, honesty and integrity that I get from your channel.

Refreshing to find a reactor who isn't afraid to give an in depth analysis of not only the music but the meaning as well. Here is a song that has a conflicting message that you might enjoy reacting to. I would love to hear what you think about the song and it's conflicting message. HARDY - Wait in the Truck (feat. Hey Rosalie, I'm more of a fan of Stings version to be honest if the whole song was heavy all the way through rather than a switch up I would have been into it more. The original is more upbeat and boppy which I prefer, but the sound of silence did a great job but not my cuppa tea.
