The Pollinators of Eden by John Boyd; book review

John Boyd was on the top of.... Something when he wrote this. The first book I have ever considered 'botanically raunchy'. There is a queer sex scene, where one of the participants is a plant and that is far from the weirdest thing about it. So, it will not be for everyone, it can be hard to read or follow the comments but if you get into it, and can resist the urge to analyse the chaos of it, it can be quite entertaining. I was entertained...

Heh. I feel the humour in this one may suit your interests... There is a text book element in places but there are far more double entendres of risqué and indecent intent.

Maybe I’ll pass on this one, I used to read a lot of Piers Anthony and got burned out on the hypersexed titillating prose. I’m still reading lots of Jack Vance and recently also tries Poul Anderson (The High Crusade) and James Schmitz (The Telzey Toy and other stories). Also here are my top 3 US sex euphemisms: 1) the pop n slop 2) the goop n glide 3) the six inch dive

This is probably more Philip Jose Farmer (if I remember his style, it has been a while) or Ron Goulart. The writing is very VERY... Whatever it is. Not bad, just extreme. I don't remember Piers Anthony ever being quite as enthusiastically over the top as this one. Stick with Vance who never disappoints, and I am more than overdue for a re-read of Telzey's series...
