Love this machine. Would love to see a comparison of Perkons and this, and which you prefer for what.

I don't have the Perkons anymore so can't do a direct video comparison but I think each has some pretty clear strengths and weaknesses. I absolutely loved the Perkons ergonomics, especially the four lanes of buttons. While there aren't a lot of parameters to play with for each sound, the unlimited parameter locks give a lot of variation even within a single channel. What killed it for me were the actual sounds. For me the Perkons core sounds weren't good starting points. To get a good bass drum on channel 1 (its natural home) for example should be super simple but it can be a bit of a struggle, so much so that many people advise using channel 2 for the bass drum instead. I also dislike how the pitchmod gets so overused, it's what you tend to hear on many Perkons tracks. Not a fan of the filters either but that's just me, I know many people love them. In comparison the DR-2 has a classic single row of input buttons. It's not as quick to create a complex track and you can't get that wonderful overview that you can with Perkons. Another downside of the DR-2 is its somewhat limited memory. Not a serious problem but just seems odd to me that there aren't more banks. There's also more to remember with the DR-2 but that's because there's so many options and features. I'm amazed by all the tweakability. Often a single sound might have a dedicated filter, then a tilt filter, then add the parametric EQ,. compressor and distortion. The randomizer per voice is wonderful. Likewise the envelopes are much superior to Perkons. They can be much more precisely crafted. The real winner for me though are the core sound models. They make building a kit very easy and are excellent starting points. The only criticism I have of them is that Modor tries to keep you fenced in "real drum" land. Reminds me of Roland gear. The bottle sound for example could be very interesting as a superlow lofi clunk, but instead you're restricted to "real bottle range" lol. I know Mr Modor is very open to suggestions so hopefully we might see a few wilder sounds in an update. In many ways I think the DR-2 is closer to a supercharged LXR-02 than a Perkons. Oh yes, and the Modor should come in black :D

Yeah fantastic drum machine. If you don’t t want to dive menu, and can t be bothered with Elektron, dig this!! You changed the knobs, i like the originals

It has a beautifully smooth sound with a lot of fine control. And yes, the key combos are king here. And I will put you in the "no" camp on the knob change. Mr Modor's not a fan either.

Thanks Somnambule. Eventually I'll get into sound design on this thing but there's so many functions to cover.

Thank you for demonstrating. This drum machine seems really good and has nice sounds and apparently really cool features 😄

Thanks. I'm trying to get onto basic kit programming but still haven't run through all the backend features yet :)

@@RichardDeHovewatch of few of the videos Marcel did. That helps but it does have some tricks. Just be carefully with shift + fader. I did blow up my right ear doing that.

@@klinkske The EQ, distortion and compression all have great powers :) The machine is not short on grunt.

Anyone ever tell you your voice sounds just like Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead? Sometimes he'd intro an evening with "WE ARE MOTORHEAD, AND WE ARE GOING TO CLEAN YOUR CLOCK" - ❤

I had to rush off and listen to a couple of interviews. Can't quite see it myself, but any comparison with Lemmy is a compliment :)
