I heard pure nonsense here.....the bulgarians live here since the 8th century and before the 15th century there were no other religion in the area but christianity,so bulgarian tzar ivan aleksander christianising them is absurd, the people from this lands were christian even before bulgaria addopted christianity in 863 a.d.....and the backpipe you showed is from rhodope mountains and is called kaba gaida pipe it is differnt from the pipes in thrace

Bulgarian here....the pomaks in bulgaria dont have any problems at all, even their party representatives in the parlament, the mivement for rights and freedoms have enormous power in the country and their leader is famous as the golden finger, cause his votes in parliament are important for law making......during the comunism they were made to change their names, but this is nothing in comparison with the forcefull islamisation of bulgarians during the ottoman occupation for 5 centuries....if you go in their towns and villages it is clean and they live well and nobody bother them for nothing, nothing

You lie, Pomaks are bulgarized and Bulgarians only want to make this community as Bulgarians.

I am a member of this tribe,we are the descendants of the old khans who came during the decline of the old bulgarian kingdom, which translates to this: wr wre bulgar, but turkish bulgars,we have turkish customs,we speak and old form of kipchak language its a form of the slavic language mixed with the turkish language. Nowadaya the Neo bulgarians describe themselves as slavic of thracians, that is correct but only for themselves, there are turkish bulgars who are related to that old tribe who were part of the iYi clan. We are those people, this is why its confusing to see someone with turkish customs and a muslim name but with bulgarian/dialect language. We are bulgarians and we love our nation, its colourful just like our dresses and its diverse. But if you are to say every person in the country is slavic or thracian or turkish thats not true. We are many tribes united into one country. Period.

3:09 Bulgarians christianizing Byzantines during the reign of tsar Alexander (ruled during 1331-1371AD)...Hahaha go figure! I wonder where that "Alexander" name of his, came from, let alone him christianizing...the christians. What a failure from this Greek Despina Pantazis (0:22), who wrote the narration of this documentary! Surely knows absolute zero of Byzantine history and especially of who christianized who, in the Balkans...
