In this video, I go check on the ponds and find they have filled up some after a recent rain. After that, I go back and feed my pet alligator gar which are going into the ponds soon. Thanks for watching!!

Does the in-pond vegetation take care of itself or will you need to help it along? Just want to be sure the turtles have all they need once moved.😁
@eatingchildren77563 жыл бұрын
He will probably have to transplant some initial plants, then after that it should be fine
@expertexcavatinginc3 жыл бұрын
You need to plant all of it, plus he will need to provide oxygen in the water for certain plants to thrive (a small rock waterfall would do). Otherwise it would be just algae and ugly.
@BrianCinBengals3 жыл бұрын
@@expertexcavatinginc That sounds like an intriguing series of videos in and of itself.
@xxpowwowbluexx3 жыл бұрын
@@expertexcavatinginc, with enough plants, the algae doesn’t have enough available nutrients to grow, which keeps the water clear.
@expertexcavatinginc3 жыл бұрын
@@xxpowwowbluexx depends on the plants, plus you have to take into account many fish and creatures will eat the plants slowly, meaning backup algae prevention is absolutely essential. I personally would install an oxygenating feature than just let the water sit in the sun with plants and hope algae stays away.
@twstf89053 жыл бұрын
I would have forked and diverted a branch from that nearby stream temporarily to help speed up the filling process. Plus, it would have directed some native fish and other wildlife, like plants, crayfish, etc., from the immediate surroundings into the ponds themselves, and could have been dug out in one afternoon with a few buddies with shovels and a case of beer. 👍😇 Of course, allowing the rain to fill it up works too, clearly lol I'm just not that patient myself.

A friend went snorkeling in some old granite pits. He and I both had 55 gallon aquariums with Oscars. He brought back two crayfish about 8 to 9 inches long. His lived for almost 6 months and mine survived almost two years. When Duke finally died he was 14 inches long.

Something I learned about brush piles. Dead brush doesn’t attract many fish. Sinking fresh cut brush with lots of green leaves attracts LOTS of bait, that’s what attracts the bass. When the leaves die off the bait moves out. Lots of barren brush piles in my lake. Took a while to figure out why.

Awesome! Only thing is bit of a missed opportunity to build some habitat structures for filming fish before filling these ponds. Could have used cinder blocks and cement with heavy logs in the center, maybe a few points along the edge.

That’s awesome the blue looks really cool. I know a guy that has a pond with a natural spring on the bottom that feeds it. He told me he was digging out that bottom and came back the next day a Friday up and by the Sunday he would have lost his equipment. He told me when fishing in it one on a boat he almost didn’t come to dig Friday but just made himself do it.

Some hiding places would be good, different ways of doing it like using bricks or slabs or something to that effect and make some little shelters on the bottom, or can go with pvc pipes (or maybe some bigger things like buckets considering how big the fish will be), different sizes held down with some rocks/a slab. Fish and turtles would use them.

Connect a piece of wood, pvc pipe, or a pole to a cinder block. Mark feet increments on the wood/pipe/pole, put one in each pond. You will easly know how deep it is. When full you can always remove it.
