those doors were so huge and heavy! I keep looking at them and considered buying one last year due to nostalgia mostly but after the test drive of a 2002 SS model the painful reality of being too old(or at least my hips, knees, and ankles) and too fat slapped me upon trying to enter and more so the exit! If the doors didn't weigh 500 lbs a reliable as safe gullwing door mod kit could be a possible solution but more likely they would become an unintentional guillotine.

I bought a used 97 Firebird in 2004. It had 104,000 miles. It now has 250,000 miles and still runs great! The secret to making the 4l60e transmission last is to never drive in overdrive around town and service it every 30,000 miles. They are easy to drop the pan on and put a filter in.

Ive watched a lot of your videos as research on what my next car should be, and it led me to getting a 2018 Honda Civic w/o the turbo engine. The video where you're talking about the 2016 Honda Civic showed me what to avoid with Civics (turbo engine, 2015 and 2014 for cvt problems, 1.5 engine, etc. I just wanted to say thank you for your videos they were a huge help and still continue to be. Most other people would just talk about it, or they'd say other things, but not show you the live data or even the diagnostic codes to back up what they are saying. Plus I like how Scotty shows you what to check for (actaully shows you, not just describe it to you in many cases like other people do).

Back when I was driving my 1952 Studebaker Champion, I removed the cooling fan. This gave me more horsepower and better gas mileage. Cooling was fine all year long in Pennsylvania, unless I was in city traffic. My solution was to turn on the heater in traffic on the hottest summer days, which extracted enough engine heat to avoid boiling. And, as a young guy, I could handle 120 degrees inside the car. Glad you kept it in the family! I have a 2001 formula that's on its last (?) legs (transmission solid, engine has never failed but could use a rebuild after 170,000 miles). It's been a pleasure to own and wish GM kept Pontiac around, or that TransAm Worldwide makes the fire chicken in a more affordable version. Had my car since new. I never hit 155 but did hit 150 once :) I'm gonna miss that subdued but confident stock growl!

Good review. I have a 2000 Trans Am convertible that I bought back in 2008. It's got 165,000 miles and still going strong. I've considered trading it for something newer, but as you pointed out it's hard to find something as much fun without spending a ton more money, and with it's high miles I wouldn't get much for it, even though it's a manual and a convertible. I'd almost rather find another one like it with low miles than spend the money for something less than 5 years old. And considering a new Camaro similarly equipped would run about $45000, I have a hard time justifying replacing mine.

I had a 96 WS 6 T/A. 6 spd. It was built on a Wednesday- not early enough in the week to have one built by hung over weekend warriors, and not close enough to the next weekend for them to be too distracted.... It was the best car for reliability I ever owned, was hard to drive on a highway at the speed limit. If I could find that same car, and it was still in good shape, I’d buy it back. Based on the way I drive, it got almost the same gas mileage as the 2 liter vehicle I replaced it with.

Oil/filter every 3,000 miles, tires rotated every 6,000 miles, just recently replaced the transmission filter/fluid, had to put in a catalytic convertor (in Southeastern AZ in the desert, we do not have to have emissions. :) Do a tune up every year, or when needed. Had a 1970 GTOs 455 with 4bbl QuadraJets, gas was under a dollar. Anyway, if I floor it. It create a big cloud of smoke all the way to like 50mph, and the fuel gauge would visibly move. But it required constant plugs, points and tuning. I would work on it every weekend to keep it running correctly. My Neighbors hate me. Later had a similar Firebird like the one you mention, while engine was reliable , the interior was always falling apart, and body had dozen of noises and plenty of water leaks when it rained. May be mine was built in US.
