So many Catholics do not try to educate themselves on IVF and other concerns about pro life. They do not understand why either. We must as Catholics continue to understand and educate ourselves. Priests at the pulpit need to talk about these! I do not hear priests tell their congregations these truths! I am 70 and I have rarely heard these issues addressed in sermons in my Catholic Church life.

As Lumen Gentium explains, non-Catholics can be saved, but it is with the necessary instrumentality of the Church. To say that other religions can lead to God is with very low probability, vat ii is shaky this way. It is like reckoning that a member of your opposing team can help you win. To make the point that Our God is better than their God, YES, that is truth!!! The theme is all over the Old Testament where the true God of Israel is contrasted with the gods of nearby pagan belief (Psalm 115)

Regarding the "Good Thief" and his salvation, I would argue that the good thief actually embodies the Catholic faith in such a way that perfectly reflects what the Church with all its doctrines and disciplines aims to replicate within us. While he, perhaps, was outside the formal organization of the pilgrim church, I would argue he should be considered to be in full communion with The Church. The good thief humbly bore and accepted his cross. The good thief, naked and exposed, symbolizes his complete detachment to the world and also to his own pride. He humbly submits himself faithfully to Christ when he acknowledges his own sins and asks Jesus to, "remember me." Does this not encompass all that is the Catholic faith and The Sacraments? So, in the end, the good thief was not saved outside the Church. He perhaps, should be considered a prodigy of The Church. Thank you, Father. This was the first time I felt challenged to contemplate this salvation event in Scripture. Also, Saint Dismas was canonized by The Catholic Church, so I would be hard-pressed to think of him as being outside the Church even if maybe just temporally, but definitely not essentially.

One other comment, I have heard a priest, Father Orsi, in Naples when I was there, who recently retired, educate the Catholics with his sermons, and has placed these sermons on u-tubes that I enjoy listening too. He I specifically applaud, as well as yourself, on educating Catholics.

you're absolutely right, America has given themselves two horrible choices and not even a decent 3rd party option. so what are we to do? the Holy Father tells us that it's incumbent upon every citizen to engage into the election process. do we leave the presidential line vacant and vote for state and local representatives? or forgo voting altogether because even the local and state candidates are heathens? it's a terrible position to find ourselves in, but what should we do?

Thank you Father, for your clarity on the Pope's recent comments as not heretical, and onTrump’s changing, incorrect positions on abortion as a State's Rights issue, for IVF, and exceptions for abortion. I hope this response is not too long or inaccurate. I'm an ordinary Catholic, a little long in the tooth, remembering from my education. “A rose by any other name is just as sweet" a famous line from Shakespear's play, Romeo and Juliet. It was redone in modern times as the “West Side Story” musical. As members of two warring families (or gangs) with different family names, they are still who they are, decent, loving human beings who, in spite of their families and family names, fall in love and die tragically in the fight between their families. All truth comes from God. If a person honestly seeks the truth and when they see it, they follow it, even at great personal cost, whether they realize it or not, they are in fact seeking and following Jesus. Catholics have a concept of three forms of Baptism: Water, Blood, and Desire. Some people would be scandalized or angry if they knew that they are actually honorary members of the Catholic Church, as opposed to official card-carrying members. Even if they can't spell “Jesus” properly, they can be baptized by their sincere Desire to seek and follow the Truth (Jesus), by Blood if they give their life for the Truth (Jesus) with whatever understanding of Him and His Truth that they have been granted by Him. They can be invincibly ignorant, as many of us are, in various parts of our lives. We should be humbled by the fact that sometimes this ignorance of Jesus and His Church comes from the SCANDAL of supposedly Catholic lives and attitudes. I think it was St Patrick who, rather than condemning the Irish for human sacrifice, told them you’ve got it partially right, that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. But the Good News is that God Himself came down to earth and became one of us. He voluntarily suffered greatly and sacrificed his perfect human-divine life for us, and He resurrected and founded one Church. His is the only life that could pay this debt of sin. You can put your knives away.

I'm really wanting to agree with you about the Pope but let's look at what he said: “If you start to fight, ‘my religion is more important than yours, mine is true and yours isn’t,’ where will that lead us?” he asked,” according to Crux Now. “There’s only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sheik, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and they are different paths [to God].” I think this statement is incorrect. And I don't think it is wrong to disagree with Pope Francis on this point. I do not agree that "each of us has a language to arrive at God". Jesus became the Incarnate Word. And there is only one Truth. While it is true that different religious can have partial truths, and while it is true other religious may try to lead people to God... it is not True that all "Religions are different paths to God." Some religions bring you to Satan. Some religions worship Satan. Some religions bring people to bomb the World Trade Center. And there aren't different "languages" to arrive at God. Jesus is the Word. There is only one truth - and one language to bring people to Christ and that is Catholicism. And in so far as these other religions contain partial Truths, they share in the same language. So religions can have partial truths, and in doing so they share in part the true language... but there are not different languages to arrive to God. It might actually be true that some Religions have no truth in them. Like the Church of Satan. That is one path no one should be on.

My point is that while it might not be the place of lay people to make that call, it does not mean that heresy is impossible, nor does the rank of the papal office grant impunity. However, if synodality were truly fostered the moral challenges of the Pope’s statements would be considered. With regard to Trump, when evaluating his moral character it must be considered that much of the negative press about him consists of staged headline grabs, many of which have been debunked, but still held in high regard by his conspirators. (J6, proud boys, all felony convictions, election interference.) With regard to his pro-life stands, KZbinr Trent Horn (Chanel Counsel of Trent) explains how he is justified. If there are things that Trent is omitting I would gladly welcome your rebuttal.

While it is not impossible for the unbaptised to be saved they are at a great disadvantage compared to those who are baptised and faithful to Jesus Christ. Although the Lord loves all people by the same degree those who are the members of his church have accepted his outstretched hand of friendship and reconciliation by believing in his son Jesus Christ and have received his Holy Spirit which is special closeness and oneness with God. It is like a shepherd who is surrounded by his flock of sheep but other sheep stand at a distance from him and are scattered around. When the wolves attack the shepherd will easily be able to protect and save the sheep that stand close to him but it will be more difficult for him to save the sheep that stand at a distance although not necessarily impossible. Those baptised believers who are faithful to Christ are assured salvation but those people outside the church can only hope for salvation. Without the presence of the shepherd on earth no sheep can be saved. The shepherd is Jesus Christ and the presence of his Holy Spirit.

I don’t really understand why you must defend the pope even when it says something wrong. Those words are scandalous because they makes the sacrifice of Jesus optional.
