I think it's totally reasonable for demons to be dumb enough to fall for tricks. Like their entire existence is "hey, let's pick of fight with a being who's defining characteristic is that He has infinite power." That being said, assuming that they're stupid is also pretty dangerous. Really the most logical thing to do is just point out that God's gonna kick it's ass harder the longer it's around so it should probably just leave as soon as possible.

Of all the things in this movie, I think the least believable would have to be the explanation that the Catholic Church covered up the fact that a demon-possessed clergyman was responsible for the Inquisition. The Inquisition has dealt a heavy blow to the church’s credibility especially within the last few decades or so; why would they NOT want people to know that the blame for it originally lay with something else entirely?

The only exorcist movies I can tolerate are those where the invasion does not turn the victim into a comedy villain. The alteration of the voice into sounding like two distinct voices is extremly silly; the demon has access to the persons brain, they would pretend to be completely normal and they should not become that much stronger. They are limited by the physical body they are in, and thus would only be stronger in that they can use full strenght as if in a frenzy or panic. If they follow that kind of logic Im game, as it can be a more interesting horror concept.

Pretty much every exorcist movie is underwhelming and I've only ever liked one that was about a girl who falls for this other girl and goes home with her to her mom's, but they live in this super tight knit Jewish community and EVeryone will have you thinking they're sus right up until the crazy twist reveal. There's so little good queer movies let alone horror, and the fact they made possession genuinely suspenseful is so cool
