I heard this song first when I was about 14 years old. Fast forward im 23 years now and been through drug abuse and fake people around me, when I quit drugs they all disappeared one by one. I used to like this song but now it literally speaks to me in another way.

Hope you're doing alright now dude. I'm about to turn 30 and been struggling with drugs for a long time now. It's not as hard now as it used to be, and idk why. It might only be because I'm taking methadone now, but I'm getting close to finishing the taper, and should be leaving the clinic sometime next year.

I remember waiting for an IED to go, using this track as focus. Iraq had unique challenges, remembering what had to be done.... I wouldn't of made it without samples like this. I was lucky

The more I listen to this, the more I realize Gibbard and Tamborello were probably attempting to make a pastiche of a song The Album Leaf would make (instrumental-wise) That, or a member or two of The Album Leaf were involved in the making of this song, which isn't too out there considering both projects are signed with Sub Pop records and probably did come across each other at some point. Anyways, if you like this song, I'd reccomend checking out The Album Leaf's albums. Not all of their tracks are as melancholy as this one, but they scratch a similar itch.

I'd reccomend The Album Leaf, a band on the same label The Postal Service is. Heck, this song sounds like Postal Service's attempt at a The Album Leaf-esque song. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the members from The Album Leaf were involved with this song somehow.
