Going Postal was the first appearance of Moist von Lipwig, the others being Making Money and Raising Steam. There is no doubt that Sir Terry Pratchet was one the great writers of the twentieth century. The vast volume of his works are truly a wonder to behold.

Really superb, we are even treated with an appearance of Terry Pratchett as the postman towards the end. I was delighted to be informed that his name is kept running through the Internet as the names of the murdered clack operators were kept running through the clacks lines in this film. What a thoughtful tribute from his fans.

This was amazingly written and the cast fit the parts perfectly. Music portrays the turmoil as well. If anything, it brought thoughts of things in life and raises the questions of "just ends" or "karma". Greatly appreciated the ride.

In the UK it's called "Going Postal" and is based on the book of the same name by the late Terry Pratchett. It was released as a mini series by Sky in 2010. The beautiful Claire Foy, later to play the young Queen Elizabeth in the series "the Queen", is great in it.

When I saw the name as The Postmaster's Ruse, I was, momentarily, confused. I have the book, and my dvd cover properly called it Going Postal. Oh, I'm from Michigan and have the US copy. David Suchet was wonderful as Reacher Gilt. I was, also, pleasantly surprised to see Don Patterson as the priest of Om. That's my favorite part of the story where Lipwig brings the offering to Om, and they discuss the essence of offerings when Lipwig remarks about the smell is always better than the taste. 😄 I, also, like that when Groat disagrees with him, Lipwig just promotes him. 😅

Strange the book this movie is based on, Going Postal, came out five years before Alan Bates led the justice for postmasters movement in Great Britain. Here the protagonist in a Christmas Carol-like dream moment sees that the damage he’s done resulted in the extreme outcome. In the GB scandal four such outcomes actually occurred. Only in 2024 did Parliament declare all sub postmasters innocent, thus relieving them of the pain and expense of having to go to court to get their convictions quashed. Just as in real life, a new, unseen “technology” and its purveyors were the villain. At 2:06:59 Gilt says “A fault?!” and prevents the shut down of the system. Exactly that happened in the postmaster tragedy. The computer system was ultimately proven to be full of bugs. The bosses, later called thugs in suits by Alan Bates, purposely chose not to shut down the system or allow independent consultant review of the system lest that indicate the Post Office higher-ups be at fault. Downright eerie how the author seemed to presage the immense moral issues of right and wrong and of the powerful squashing the innocent in a post office setting just before that really happened.

Well, he wasn't actually getting premonitions of scandals, he was making an observant social comment on the rise of email and texts (the new technology rather unreliable at the time) which were killing the post - and to a point still are.

This is NOT the name of the movie - the REAL name is "Going Postal", from the Terry Pratchett universe of Discworld books. There are no opening or end credits given here. This is all an attempt to circumvent copyright laws, no doubt. The closing then opening credits appear in the middle when the two episodes naturally break. "GP" is currently playing on Peacock, fully intact, in the original 2 parts, under "Television". (It was released as a TV movie in Britain.) In this fantasy-romance-comedy, a con man is forced into becoming the city's postmaster in order to avoid the gallows. He gradually shifts his perspective as he learns of the consequences of his actions and how the woman he has fallen for was effected by his cons as well. This is an inventive story with a lot of charm. The production design is well maintained throughout - a mix of Victorian / Italianate styling with mostly Medieval technology polished by magic (the few Discworld films I've seen all evoke a similar mood). The score enhances the action; the editing is well done. I like the cast and now cannot picture anyone else in those roles. Apart from Dance and Suchet, the rest are new to me; performers I would not mind seeing more of. It is a lot of fun seeing David Suchet as a truly hateful and evil bad guy - instead of little grey cells, they are all tarry black cells! As a fan bonus, the author, Terry Pratchett, appears in a cameo at the end when he attempts to deliver a letter to Suchet's character.

Highly recommend. Wonderful actors. Subtle adult innuendo occasionally. Modern Shakespeare edge.

Bizarre steampunk-style fantasy comedy (?) but impossible not to become intrigued by the plot. Werewolves and vampires and golems? Oh my!

All from the brilliant mind of Terry Pratchett and his marvellous tales from the Disc World: with such colourful characters as Cohen the Barbarian, Death, Corporal Carrot, Corporal Nobbs and many, many others.

Ah yes! The most entertaining fantasy Disc World novels from Sir Terry Pratchett are a world of their own where everyone can find things to relate to.❤

I'd never come across the word "acuphilia," so of course, I had to Google it. Turns out that no such word existed until Terry Pratchett coined it! 🤣

wiki shows it as "Terry Pratchett's Going Postal" and the cast has a few gems such as Charles Dance (Game of Thrones among other movies), David Suchet (Hercule Poirot movies among other) and Claire Foy (played a young Queen Elizabeth II in the TV series, among other movies)

Thx I looked it up and couldn't find it under that title and there were no credits.... this is what film buffs have to do to hide from the algorithms I suppose. 😎 But I'm grateful! It was a lovely romp, I really enjoyed it!

@@lagringa7518 This is really sketchy. They state that "All of the content on this channel is under legal license" yet as you mentioned, they went to great effort to disguise the identity of the program. I would recommend the "sister production" to this, the equally entertaining "The Colour of Magic", but if these people are running it, who knows what it might now be called!

@@KenLieck = " "All of the content on this channel is under legal license" " - - - - - Lies. If you are interested, "Going Postal", "Hogfather", and "Color of Magic" are playing on Peacock fully intact. "Wyrd Sisters" is here on KZbin, but I haven't watched it.
