Bob, thankyou for taking the time to do a review on the DMX-40. I'm considering purchasing one for myself. I'm just curious if you're still positive about this device after a year. Field day is a month away and this looks like it would be a great tool in my toolbox.

FYI: The DMX-40 works seamlessly with Flex 6000 series radios like the Flex 6300/6400. Unlike many other radios, you can set the Flex sidetone to 1300 Hertz and just tune the CW signal on the waterfall. There is no need for the RIT confusion. It is as seamless as using the internal DMX-40 transceiver, but you get 6M through 160M access using the cheaper DMX-40. I would imagine the MMX Zero would work similarly with the Flex radios. They are a great match.

To be honest it seems easier just to learn CW the old fashioned way. The great thing about CW is that it is a simple mode that can be used with simple equipment. This is making it very complicated in my mind. It takes about a year to learn CW and you can start making QSO's just after 4-5 months for most people. There is a learning curve but after the hard work its all over and you can just enjoy the mode.

There are a ton of people like me who have a block, don't have the time to commit to learning it or may just want to be able to type and read to make quick and efficient CW contacts.

The price of 'pure CW' equipment comes down accordingly. I have some very simple QRP CW rigs that fit in my cargo pocket. Devices like this turn CW into FT8 where the computer does all the work. Learning CW is worth the sense of accomplishment alone.

Could it be possible the start a trading in ham radio to start and design a challenge coin to promote ham radio and get people interested in ham radio especially the young people I now the challenge coin thing started in the military but it seem to be growing into other areas. What are you thought on this and would it help grow ham radio!

I've wanted to do a challenge coin for a few years now. Just a matter of coming up with a design and the money to have them struck. What a great idea to help promote the hobby.
