It's a crime for you to have such few subscribers. I'm a saxophonist in the US, and I greatly appreciate your efforts to make educational videos. My goal this summer was to get at least a dozen more bird solos under my belt, to say nothing of my creative interests. I find videos like these very motivating. My saxophone was stolen last year, and the student model Jupiter a friend gave to me went finally went kaput; Doing transcriptions--and of course the music--are what keeps me positive and hopeful that I will get a horn again, and continue carrying the torch with the greatest respect to those who came before.

interesting thank you ! I like you your reminder at the end that we should embrace the diversity of a musical journey , i think that's deep.. and indeed it prevents us from going into dogmatism, which would be only a projection of our personnal needs and journey into others lives. About transcribing, and from my personnal experience, I think the most crucial part is to PLAY the solo, over and over, imitating not only the the notes but also and more importantly all the aspects that makes a player great: sound, energy, beat placement, feeling, accent, intention. Those cannot be written down and require deep imitation. Then, and that's what I forget in my formative years, go beyond the transcription and be creative with it: for example: play in the style of, intuitively, or extract a phrase or a concept and play with it.

Definitely, learning music by transcribing solos is a great experience. It's about more than just hitting the right notes; it's about capturing the feel of the music. But with things like big band music transcription, you can't play it all by yourself. Everything depends on what you're trying to learn and your own music journey. (solos, learn repertoire, large ensembles, etc.) This said, for me, playing the solos I've learned has been very rewarding.

À mon avis, une méthode efficace pour intégrer véritablement les éléments d'un solo dans son propre jeu consiste à sélectionner un très petit fragment, idéalement d'environ six notes, qui pourrait tenir dans une mesure. Il faut ensuite s'atteler à transposer ce fragment, à le jouer dans différents contextes, et à improviser autour de lui. Répéter ce processus avec d'autres petits fragments peut s'avérer plus fructueux que de se concentrer sur l'apprentissage de larges segments d'un solo. Bien que maîtriser un solo en entier soit avantageux pour la technique du saxophone et pour une profonde compréhension du langage musical de l'artiste, l'intégration de petits fragments dans son propre jeu musical est une démarche plus efficace pour personnaliser son expression artistique.
