In the end it makes no difference, as the issue isn’t fossil fuels but human consumption in general and the global economy dependent on consumer spending. Cleaner energy isn’t clean for example and your just offloading the environmental costs to 5 years old being forced to mine cobalt in the Congo and having China bare the costs of refining lithium and polluting itself in the process. Consumption is the issue, no matter how Silicon Valley tries to greenwash the tech industry, it is not the solution. The environmental costs and responsibilities are merely shifted to others unseen.

We had already begun experiencing slightly strange weather patterns in Colorado at that point, but nothing overly concerning, but right around 2016 onward, each year was noticeably warmer than the year before. Our reservoirs in Colorado began drying up, some of our biggest lakes by 2018-2019 got down to 30% full. Our snowpack was down, our rainfall was down, and every summer was hotter than the last, finally I’d woken up to the fact that this is indeed happening, and if we don’t do something soon then we will all be in serious trouble down the road. It will destroy your body, have long lasting negative affects that will leave you debilitated for the rest of your life never able to live normally again. It hasn't the means to cure you yet but it has begun reversing some of the damage the cancer has done. With time and care your body ultimately will build a strong enough defense and defeat the cancer. You also get to go about your life with minimal sacrifices and practically live a normal life. The first doctor recieves money from the company that provides the debilitating and potentially deadly treatment. For every patient on it the doctor gets a heafty cut from the manufacturer. The manufacturer also makes the stuff that gave you cancer. The other doctor is just an ethical doctor with good intentions for your health but he is silenced by the first doctor because the first doctor and the manufacturer would loose a lot of money.

Nobody mentions that one good reason to take measures to “Go Green” is to save money. I installed my first energy-saving light bulbs not because they used less electricity but because they lasted longer (I was sick of always having to replace two certain light bulbs in my house because they have a high usage). I installed insulation, double-glazing, heat pumps, solar hot water panels, a double floor in my living room (downstairs) and got my Natural Gas supply cut off all in order to save money. My electricity usage (and therefore what I pay) is now half of what it would be if I hadn’t done all those things.

@@fredmitchel1236 While they're guilty of concealing information that could have shaped public policy, the fact we're guilty too. All of us have been and still are the primary end consumer. I think I consume less than 'average', both in terms of driving and household use. While I hope to make my next vehicle either electric or hybrid, I will likely remain a gas burner for years to come. Similarly, most people in the U.S. will still be burning gas, both in their vehicles and at home 10 years from now. For grins, I just Googled for the price of the economy model Tesla, Model 3 ...."from $47,000'. However, throw in other hidden costs (warranty, etc.) and a few options that most want, and the price is a lot more. I see an ad for a used 2022 model 3 for $58,000. I also see a used 2022, high performance model 'S Plaid' for $143,000. Even for the economy model 3, most people will balk at paying that much over the next few years. In addition to cost, the infrastructure is not yet in place to go most anywhere and easily find a recharge station. In contrast, there are over 145,000 fueling stations in the U.S. Then, there's the recharge time (~20 minutes for a partial, 2 to 3+ hours for a full charge). That means the thru-put of vehicles per hour per charging station is a lot less than a gas pump island. Lastly, if an EV runs out of charge before reaching a charging plug, you're screwed. A friend was driving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas and got caught for hours in a traffic jam behind a major accident. (It was likely hot, with drivers running their A/C while waiting) For anyone who ran out of gas, a tow truck or the like could just add a gallon or two to each vehicle so they could reach the next station. But once the traffic started to flow, he saw a lot of EVs (mostly Teslas) still parked on the side of the road. Tow trucks are NOT equipped to charge an EV. Even if a few rigs do have recharge capability, they would be only capable to do so at a S L O W trickle compared to a charging station (which offer 100 and even 200 Amps at 240 Volts or even higher), let alone dumping in a couple gallons of gas. That means the EV drivers had to wait to be towed. None of this makes me want to run to the nearest EV dealer. My point to all this is that all of us who drive or fly, and to a lesser extent, all of us who take mass transportation on a regular basis and/or order a lot of stuff online that's delivered to our home and office, are the end user who sustains the demand and market, myself included. The same goes for home energy use.

It’s fuel efficient, cheap to insure, gets about 2 oil changes a year and can probably last another 80k miles easily. It’s a very simple car with a 4 cylinder ivtec engine and my son can’t afford a Tesla as he is also going to school online mostly at home and he only makes $23,000 a year at a home improvement store near our house.🙂
@gregparrott2 жыл бұрын
@@jdenino6022 The government has sporadically offed rebates/subsidies to help offset the premium cost of EVs. Still, a lot of people will either keep an older gas/Diesel vehicle for many years to come, or find a shortcoming with an EV, as I did in 2017. My pickup truck was getting too old and given the high price of used ones, the price of a new one (relatively base model) was not much more. Electric pickups weren't available in 2017. But even if the new Ford or Rivian (or soon to be released Tesla) pickup was available today, I can't see buying it. Even ignoring the price, it does not have the range. And if you're towing anything (an expected task for a pickup), the range and time spent recharging become unacceptable. PLUS, it you're going to be camping off grid, you're again faced with no access to a recharge station without also towing a ridiculously large generator AND a pile of gas or Diesel to run it. When the alternative for a gas/Diesel truck is just carrying a small auxiliary fuel tank (if any), the EV pickup just does not make sense for long distance, and off-grid use.

Something I could never get my head around was why in the sequel to An Inconvenient Truth, we see Al Gore still driving a gas SUV, when he surely could afford an EV. This was particularly weird since in the first movie he had advocated we move to electric transportation. Well, no matter what anyone says, or does, EVs are still the way forwards (though we also need less expensive, smaller/better use-case options going forward, not more luxury speed monsters).
@ScarsFromTomorrow12 жыл бұрын
I mean, EVs still have a lot of issues. Number one being variety, which is better now, but until recently it was basically just Tesla. And Tesla has a load of issues in and of itself. I would never own one, even if I could afford one. Plus, mile range and charging times are a factor. And I haven't seen it so I don't know but if he'd had the car for a couple years it could end up being more wasteful to just buy a new car. I just tried to google to see what type of car he drives currently but it's all just articles attacking him so, who knows.
