I have been looking for "mezza voce", some called it "soft singing", as a part of the old school singers, maybe "filati". I didn't find a video in your channel. I searched and I got to this video. Would you about it mezza voce technique? Cheers!

Thanks for your comment! You’re right in looking for mezza voce as it is indeed part of the technique for soft, controlled singing, where the voice remains ‘half voice,’ but still connected. However, filato is a more advanced concept where the sound becomes so refined that it feels like a thin string, almost like a hair, hence the name. It’s a very challenging technique that not everyone can master, and I myself am still exploring its depths. It requires immense control, and it’s a beautiful testament to the art of vocal finesse.

I don’t want to be the one throwing labels but is chiaroscuro also referred to as mix voice? Honestly understanding it as light and dark makes more sense to me than when people say chest or mix. And that phrasing always made it confusing to me

Chiaroscuro refers to the balance of light and dark qualities in the voice, not exactly what is meant by mixed voice. Mixed voice often refers to a blend between a pharyngeal voice, or voce finta as they used to call it in the old times, and a neutral Laryngeal position. That is not truly a fully connected chest voice, or voce di petto, even on the top notes. What we focus on in the old school is more about full connection, note di petto, as full voice and, squillo, as the brightness and projection of the voice = chiaro scuro.
