For the lean-to shelter did you have just one tarp? I guess if you were kids it wouldn’t need to be too big. Did you sleep with your feet to the fire?

We had to use natural materials for the lean-to except for the floor, we were allowed to use plastic tarp to lay our bedding on and our feet was to the fire...problem was it was a terribly wet weekend, lol. Keeping the fire going beyond much more than smolder was pretty difficult, lol
