Congrats on finishing your first competition, and gaining that valuable experience (strengths/weaknesses/etc) will definitely help you bridge the gap. It's a lifelong thing in this IT arena, and you definitely seem to self-motivate/inspire yourself, so the sky's the limit for you. You're right about the number of tools out there, and of course seemingly new one's coming out all the time.
