The problem is that the more recent professors have moved light years away from Friedman and Becker. The excessive use of theoretical mathematics has moved the economics program into a theoretical and unreal arena that has no practical application to the real world. It is a mystery as to how the department has been allowed to move so far from the program of Friedman and Becker. It is unfortunate that the memory of Friedman and Becker is used to justify the current abstract and theoretical program.
