I've been following you since you started your tube channel. I've been chasing smallmouth for decades and I've done well, but each year with more pressure It gets tougher. You have helped me greatly to keep up, Thanks for sharing your knowledge Just watched this video and the lake you broke down with the pot holes I live on and wondered how you did. Thanks

Hey been good video specially with all the different type hooks. I’ve tied my own Maribou jigs for many years and lately I’ve switched exclusively to the eagle claw pro V band style hook.

If you use fish scent doesn't the oil from the scent keep the marabou feathers bunched up and prevent the marabou from flared out and give you the pulsating look that you want from a hair jig?

Tremendous sharing of a lot of work to develop this expertise! Seems at first u were removing that keeper, but offered reinforcement for where the light leadhead met the hook shank, but settled in using it to facilitate a better hold for that piece of plastic to add casting weight and help puff out profile a bit? I didn't see the appeal in that worm nose jig with either the lead collar double keeper or the screw-loc keeper - what am I missing Ben? I was going to get the ball head production molds in 3/32 and 1/8 for here in CT, but no keeper.....?

White marabou either singular or mixed with red catches many species of fish. Krystal flash works well as lateral lines flash etc...Personally I use a 7ft1inch Powell rod rated for jigs etc...but here in Australia we use many different brands such as made by Shimano or Daiwa and others for very light braid fishing...F.G.knot is the best way to attach your light braid to light flurocarbon leader. I would really love to share more knowledge on this subject...I personally make ball headed jig heads in 1/16ounce underspin blades attached deadly on trout and Australian bass...regards Bjscustombaits Australia.

I’ll flog only as necessary 😂 seriously though, in a tournament setting I’d do it and maybe to have a good time with some buddies, but other than maybe one time a year, I prefer not to mess with bed fish

Are your feathers dyed or just the natural black of the turkeys under feathers? I turkey hunt and usually have an abundace of them, may as well make my on jigs.

Great seminar. Question......why not 6lb braid? Also, what brand braid do you use?
@brnowak_fishing
@brnowak_fishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’ve not tried 6lb, but I’m sure it’d work well. My only concern with braid that small is in my ability to tie a knot that wouldn’t burn the braid/hold, and I just haven’t seen a need yet to downsize to 6
@brianbochow
@brianbochow 3 жыл бұрын
@@brnowak_fishing ever seen the FG knot...down here in Australia we fish 6lb or even 4lb braids to flurocarbon leader via the FG knot and that's in the bream tournaments that are run in Australia. Also I have been tying marabou jigs for years on sized jig heads that are 1/16th ounce to 1ounce sizes...Cheers mate.. B.J. Bjs Custom Baits Australia ...

What specifically makes a 90 degree bend hook better than the 60 degree with the flat eye hook?
@brnowak_fishing
@brnowak_fishing 2 жыл бұрын
The 90 degree stays more horizontal on the retrieve bd she’s there is more weight in front of the line tie. The 60° lifts the nose of the jig more. If you’re fishing around a lot of cover or dragging, going with a 60 might not be bad, but I prefer the 90

Braid? Clearly not fishing below freezing temps.

The best time for this is near or below freezing temps. Use braid with gore fiber and clear ice from your guides and line regularly
