This YPPF seems inconsistent with the research that shows spectrum affects photosynthesis differently at different ppfd levels. For example - green is actually more photosynthetic active (vs all colors) at high ppfd levels - think cannabis growers. This is based off the latest academic work and showing green penetrates the plant deeper in the leaf. Put another way: your YPPF is only accurate at low ppfd’s and actually incorrect at high ppfd levels. Unless YPPF dynamically adjusts based on ppfd levels??? 1000ppfd tends to be the point green outperforms all colors. Should not be too hard to adjust the software. Would love your thoughts.

I love listening to Dr. Bruce bugbee talk about plant stuff. How can we encourage him to make more videos? Show us some of his experiments and some plants... do another tour of the grow facility....??? Please? Lol

Should YPFD depend on which plant is doing the photosynthesis? I know some plants tolerate low light better than other, I can't imagine that all plants out there put the same weight at different wavelengths, am I wrong? is this device tuned for Cannabis especially? Or maybe it can be calibrated with custom profiles? Does the device support software updates? In the end it doesn't really matter if you can see each wavelengths separately, but I wonder for the sake of theory.
@skepticalgenious Жыл бұрын
I think he explains the device shows a live read of the ppfd yppfd eppfd. The different screens will give specific nanometer wavelengths of each the plant adsorbs. So it should work with any plant for it's giving a actual read . not what is wanted. That will be plant specific. This seems it would be great for small to commercial farmer's. Having a detailed far red photons meter will help flowering plants greatly.

I think it's fair to say using these #'s, if you add 380-400nm you'll increase yield by at 2% and if you add farred 700-750nm you'll increase yield by over 10% THATS INCREDIBLE

Hello Dr Bruce , are there any studies that show whether cfi affects photosyntheses? Setting up seedling shelf in my office - definitely prefer a higher cri (eg flicker free 95 cri waveform bulbs) - but wondering if this matters to the plants at all. Thanks!
@jteach9124Ай бұрын
I'm also thinking with more Far red 700-750 at least the synergistic effects should help the other colors to penetrate the leaves more therefore penetrating the plant canopy.

I wonder if iPPE is modeled with a classic spongy below, palisade-on-top mesophyll leaf cross section. Essentially 2 zones within the cross section of different phytochrome density.

Are there tables with light in millimoles or dli, tds ppm, ec and ph for cannabis cultivation? I realize media plays a role, I would simply like to see a rollup of these factors.

My apogee mq510 says the ppfd at noon in Riverton Utah is 2900. Please explain why you say the sun is only 2000. Is my meter lying to me? Sincerely curious what’s going on…
@ApogeeInstrumentsInc Жыл бұрын
Hi, the MQ-510 is calculated for measurements underwater. That is probably why you are getting incorrect measurements outside of water.

Yes, it was a good presentation. I would love to see the led lights you use and how they operate, lights are part of what you do for Nasa?. You have all these cool instruments to calculate the light you must have the best lights for the different environments
@jakebrake7054 Жыл бұрын
Through watching many of his videos, I believe he has stated that NASA works with him in developing their own lighting systems because they need to be used in space. He has access to the literal “cream of the crop,” in lighting systems. Or, they’re a new design intended for research.

I'm almost convinced that plant can absorb IR, far red. when the plant is in the dark cycle with out any ill effects, not sure it benefits it though. but back in the day I used a IR heater during the dark cycle not even thinking at the time it was light, but the growth rate and leaf size, and yeild Vs watt for the pot size was far above any I've grown since. my trajectory seemed to be master level yeild then a downwards slope since. I think probably other factors at play. I may test it when I find a good keeper, mother, where I can find a benchmark!. then I'll go to shortwave radio lol
@lukekelly289217 күн бұрын
and also possibly test the effects of magnetic resonance. as an electrician I've been taught you have to unfurl extension cords because it creates a magnetic field when looped up, and we also use a clamp meter to check resistance. not sure what reading it would give around a plant stem, I'll have to see if I can get hold of one,it may have an effect on the plants natural processes. maybe coil looped around the pot taking the power of the light through it, and one around the stem above the soil. I'll maybe report back when'if I can grow a standard to work from.
@jteach9124Ай бұрын
If all this is correct the sun is creating like 20% more usable energy that lighting fixtures are not producing. What about at night? There's maddddd wavelengths that aren't being absorbed indoors that are invisible to see and outdoor plants are getting them at night too.

It's fascinating and will become more important as demand for food increases while farm land is finite. I just wonder if synthetic sunlight can ever really be the same as the sun in its effect on plants.

not if you "hire out" your services to fellow growers in your area, charge them $100 to tell them what's required to maximize. Problem solved.
