That domain name was a poor choice, although you can now use org sites for making money, many people still view orgs as a charity/not-for-profit domain and will be wary of paying any fees. (org sites that asked for money before 2019 were scam websites unless they were a registered charity).

I just started playing twice a week in my local low stakes poker games this year ($30 buy in-blinds going up every15 mins-only 3 re-buy ins per game start with $150 in chips). I had never played legitimate poker before. I was pretty bad the first few tourney’s I played in, had no idea what position importance was, what to fold, & didn’t know a flush beat a straight lol. I started studying for a few weeks learning all the possible hand combos / position & how likely low stakes players are to bluff. I got outed & not even close to placing in the money the first 3 tourneys. After committing not learning poker I finished 1st place in my fourth time ever playing in my local game & 2nd place in the money in my 6th game. I didn’t realizing how much fun poker is & am becoming addicted lol. Anyway... this video was the first one I watched on table position importance & it’s improved my game a good amount just by knowing how to keep all the players at the table from limping in & making so stupid good hand with shit cards. Also. knowing when the good players are in the blinds to make them pay extra to see a flop with mediocre hands.

So, Wouldn't it be better to be big blind? I mean... just say you have a great hand as dealer.. you make a bet, the big blind still has a chance to see what you are about to do.. if I was big blind and seen the dealer just call(or raise).. as big blind can't I just bet(or re-raise) and see how many hands I can make fold due to my raise? Can someone explain this to me so I'm aware of what I am missing? *New poker player*

Being big blind, or small blind is only good at pre flop, on other streets, blinds are the first ones to act, so they are oop
@ActivistVictor
@ActivistVictor 10 жыл бұрын
one issue with betting a lot on the big blind is tat people often don't give the big blind credit for a real hand and will call them more readily.. In addition, if you are in a pot with many limpers, and raise the big blind makes will likely be called by many people since they are getting good odds on their money to make a call and see a flop.
@ColmRooney
@ColmRooney 10 жыл бұрын
i was just about to ask this too and i'm not a new player. I know the button is position after the flop but many people don't say that the big blind has position preflop and surely theres something to be said about that? it wasn't mentioned in this video...unless i missed it.
@gripsed
@gripsed Жыл бұрын
Being big blind is indeed good for acting last preflop but it comes at the cost of having to post a blind. And then as the other wise comments have said the advantage is gone after the flop.

I like being first to act sometimes, like in short stack spin and goes. since players will only connect with the flop 30% of the time, it’s likely none of us connected So since Air vs Air is the likely scenario, the first to act has the first opportunity to steal the pot So I’d rather lead out with a 70% chance of making opponent fold, than fold myself to an incoming standard c-bet. By acting first, It’s essentially stealing the power of the c-bet from the button holder This especially works vs players who are multi-tabling, high volume, short stack games like spin and gos. who are not focusing on how often players are stealing, but only focus on their own cards. And game types where stack sizes are too small to get creative Sure, the opponent will connect with the flop 30% of the time, so be cautious when called, otherwise your laughing 70% of the time.

#gripsed should the Big Blind not have position preflop? Noone seems to teach this just wondering why, as yes u might have position with the button for postflop but what about pre?
@DeluviumOfficial
@DeluviumOfficial Жыл бұрын
I think the button is considered the strongest because it’s the position that gets the most information without having incurred any cost. The bigblind is technically last to act pre but already has 1BB invested.

Another example. "Play loose, raise more hands when we are in late position and have a high likelihood of having position throughout the hand." How? My seat does not change, and there's still the exact same number of people getting to bet before me. How do I suddenly get a different position just by raising?

Why can I not understand this? I swear understanding poker positions and the importance of them has me completely doubting my intelligence even as a highly educated teacher. LOL. Because I simply do not get it. For example, this buying the button concept. And everything you're talking about at around 3 minutes. Even if I raise and some people fold, I'm still in the same position after the flop. The same person gets to start the betting. How has my position suddenly changed? I don't have the button. I still have to bet early and wait to see who all checks or raises. "After the flop, we will be the closest player to the button." How? After the flop i'm still in the same seat the same distance away from the button, still in the same position as far as seeing who all will check or raise. Goodness what is wrong with me? I'm sure this all is brilliant and makes perfect sense to most but to me it is so illogical. Can someone please help my aging brain to get this?
@hairyott3rr
@hairyott3rr 2 жыл бұрын
Starting the betting is a disadvantage, you want to be last to act. Only players that continue matter in considering position in later streets. If you raise preflop and everyone in mid-late position fold, your position has dramatically improved, as anyone who decides to continue acts before you on later streets. “Distance” only matters for players actually in the hand. If everyone after you through the button fold, YOU now effectively hold the button for the remainder of that hand and hold the positional advantage against any player that chooses to continue.

Hey Tim, it's just how the structure of the game goes. Preflop the action starts to the left of the big blind. But once it goes postflop the action starts left of the button (or on the small blind). The blinds are dead money to get the action started, and so the action preflop starts after them. But postflop they don't have any money committed so they go first. Hope that helps it to make sense.
