"Low frequency - you gotta treat it first, it's the elephant in the room" - best application I've ever seen of this metaphor :D

It is the elephant in the room. It exaggerates and attenuates with every movement.

Thank you, Dennis for some hard truth. I imagine you must feel like you're swimming against the tide sometimes. And thank you for saving me lots of money on products that can't work.

I am sure Dennis gets frustrated dealing with the same issues over and over. However, when he gets that client who moves forward to fix things, is where he finds satisfaction.

I was never a good swimmer. What must change are belief systems when it comes to small room acoustics. Most peoples' beleif systems are based on half truths, exaggerations, and out right lies. Once you get through all of the belief system "noise", eyes and ears open.

Hey Dennis Can we treat low frequencies with rock wool or glass wool ? Is this material good for this thing and if not then what material should we consider ? Secondly is after treating bass frequencies do we need to again spot placement for subwoofer?

This material type is for thermal conductivity, not low frequency absorption.

Hey Dennis, I have a quick question. I like in a highrise condo with concrete walls. I use 2 Bowers & Wilkins subwoofers who's volume is turned way down to keep my next door neighbor happy. I have a pair of Totem Accoustic Tribe tower speakers with 2 powerful subwoofers in each speaker. I don't play music above 55 db and I play mostly folk jazz....no head-banging music. My question is do I still need to treat ' the elephant 🐘 in the room', the low frequencies? Thanks So Much Dennis For All The Informational Vids That You Provide On KZbin. I Enjoy Them & Value Them. Regard, David

You must treat the low frequency issues since they impact the middle and high frequencies.

@@AcousticFields Thanks Dennis. That makes senses. It appears we are taling about an ecosystem of frequencies from low to high & vise-versa.

More like an extended family. Father , mother, sons, daughters, grandchildren. We have fundamentals which are the parents. First order harmonics are the children. Second, third, fourth order harmics are the grandchildren.

Thank you for this reminder. Now may you speak about the tactics in detail? I suppose, first you make measures, to know about the reverberation time, then to know about the SBIR and modes of the room. Then according to the budget, the destination of the room (recording voices, drums, etc., or mixing, or critical listening) we set up the goals (ex: +/-8 Db at 85 Db) ; then we think about reflexion/absorption, from high to low frequencies; finally we think about diffusion. Am I right?
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 2 жыл бұрын
You must first match the room usage to room size. The room only sees energy and it can only hold so much energy before it "loads" with unwanted pressure/reflections. There are room size break points to consider for each room usage.
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields Жыл бұрын
You must develop a sonic strategy. What will your noise floor goal be? What will the room size be? What is usage?. You must go through a series of steps in order to reach your sonic goals. Each step towards your goal must rely on the previous step. You can not move forward and skip steps. You will pay for that in the end by never reaching your stated goals..

Honor the process! I do hear some audiophiles claim that some speakers sound better without treatment. Then again, I wouldn't know what kind of treatment they used and if done properly.

Why can't foam absorb bass? Just curious.
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 2 жыл бұрын
Low frequency energy is pressure based. You must use a pressure based technology to treat. Foam is not a pressure based material type.

@@AcousticFields Hey Dennis, If I do choose to go with Accoustic Fields' expertise for planning, strategy & for purchasing treatments, I can only afford to do so in stages. I simply can't afford to treat my entire listening space with your products at one time. Have previous customers worked in stages with your company?

@@AcousticFields From what you said,& the analogies that you used ,it makes for me to treat the subbass,bass, midbass and lower midrange frequencies first. You sell pannels with charcoal that address taming problems in these frequency ranges ....those me of interest to me.

With room acoustic issues, the elevator to success is out of order. You must take the stairs, one step at a time. If you cheat or miss a step, you will hear your mistake when the project is finished.

Yes, your speakers are built upon that very premise.
