I found you last night at 11:30 and now its 4:30 in the morning. i watched everyone of your videos and ... i'm sitting here on the verge of tears, because of how powerfully you have influenced my life. i'm 16,my father committed suicide when i was 11 so i've been relying on my self to raise me, I've been faking who i am for too long of a time, i partied, smoked weed, and heavily drank, because i was listening to other people, rather than myself, I made myself what society thinks is cool and it only hurt me worse. i ignored myself for to long. i have a duty to myself to let be me who i am, and make me who I want to be. thank you. for saving me from myself. and i embrace all the feelings i'm having, and usually i would never comment like this for people to see but i'm taking your advice and putting me in challenging/uncomfortable position. thank you, i've said what I Needed to say, and i hope my flower was potent enough to help someone out there thats stuck on the same path i was on.

I had a moment at my university once. I was waiting for my class to start and I was sitting on a comfortable couch, and there was a wide window in front of me. I just stared out that window in silence, only birds chirping and a dull roar of people in other rooms . I was there for like 30 minutes, and I felt so good afterwards. I went into that classroom and I was the most serene person there.

Its cause you were present bro. you let yourself be in the moment and thats why you felt so "good". Enlightenment is when you are consistently in that state. Strive to stay aware like you were in everyday situations and you'll get a better understanding.

I always embraced solitude and silence. Walking alone through the wild can give me the same satisfying feeling as an intense workout. Sometimes I do my cardio on a bike and at the halfway point I find a spot to relax. Sitting by yourself in the dunes, decompressing, listening to the wind, the birds, the airplanes, the trees. Or sometimes I go to my parents garden and sit in the greenhouse in silence. Those are the moments when I get most of my inspiration, I just sit there thinking of stuff and writing it down in my phone. Sometimes the ideas come out quicker than I can write them down.

Iv always been more at peace when doing my own thing, keeping astray from what others are doing. Yet i find myself longing to feel acceptance at times. It's really interesting how i find myself the happiest when I'm just doing something i love without trying to feel comfortable around others. I often believe i am happiest when alone, cause that's when I'm at my most relaxed natural state of mine and feels. I am more at peace when I'm being true to myself, being true to what i truly love entirely. Life is about communicating with your feelings, what truly matters to you,not about how many people you know,or how accepted you may feel,it's about doing what is important to you,and being at a certain level with God to where your inner relationship with him is at it's most connected,to where you can talk to him, while also being able to let him guide you,to understand him, cause your relationship with him is that close! I leave you with this quote! “Loneliness does not come from having no people around you, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to you.” - Carl Jung

First I have to say you are a great communicator. I personally have struggled with anxiety off and on throughout my whole life. Battling with racing thoughts and unproductive mind patterns. We are all suffering to a greater or lesser degree. Almost 3 months ago I started meditating 30 minutes every single morning at 6am. At first is was so difficult but through pure determination I persevered. Little by little it grew easier. Now I can't wait for each morning when I get up at 5:30, take a shower and I get to visit the real world for 30 minutes. I don't have the words here to explain how it has benefited me but it has been wonderful so far. It has effected my complete day as well, I am more calm and focused and my sense well being is growing. You are right SILENCE is truly the answer! I am so glad I made the time to start and stuck with it. I love it!

I like to just sit in the dark and be quiet and silent for 30 minutes. I don't try and achieve any special state, I just sit. My thoughts come and go. In the beginning it was difficult, now I have moments where I am really calm with no thoughts. It's been about 4 months since I started, still going. There is a name for the type of meditation I do but I forgot the name, ha!

Well it's been 4 months now since I began my practice each morning, it is still going well. The one thing I really notice develop more and more each week is my ability to stay on task for longer periods of time, ha! I guess if you can sit still in the dark each morning for a half hour after a while the brain sort of changes ,gives in and relaxes, yeah, it's effecting my work day for sure. I dig it.

Silence isn't the only way in my personal experience. I also experienced this when my emotional stress went over the roof in a very short amount of time (5 minutes or so). It broke me free and the tears and laughter, you can't keep them away like bio-energetics. After that had finished, I could talk to myself and feel so free. It was an amazing experience.

It is believed that one of the greatest things you can do to avoid stress is to give yourself some quiet time. Give yourself time free of stimulus. Dont think anything. Try to free your mind of all thoughts. This is essentially meditation. When I took a martial arts class, the first thing we did in each session is meditate. The instructor would attempt to alarm you by making the loudest sudden sound I'd ever heard from a human being. Those who remain calm are in deep meditation. Those who flinch aren't and that is the case no matter how many times they'd sat through a similar session. Some people even attempt to psyche themselves up by saying "I'm not going to flinch this time" yet they still do. I believe this meditation exercise had a very direct purpose in the martial arts class. It is to teach people to act without hesitation and without tension. To not panic. To not flinch. But it has many additional benefits. As mentioned it helps with stress. But it also creates the ability to be calm and take action as opposed to being stressed and reacting in all of life's challenges Anyways, great video Elliott. I enjoyed it very much and it affirms some of my experiences.

Everything you sir have said, Mr. Hulse, is what I have been practicing since a very young age. I have found that I started to stray from this "mindset" many months ago and I didn't feel the same, I felt discomfort, confusion, lost, and if you want to go as far as to say possibly even depressed. I lost around 5 or 10 pounds which made me look alot different given my build, especially of my age. And I couldn't understand what was wrong with me, it was a feeling I had but didn't know what or where it was. Finally after weeks of self analysis I figured it out. I "lost my edge". I was becoming soft inside. I wasnt the cold, hard, brutally honest person I used to be. I was to caught up in the noise, the drama, all the lies that we, as humans, create, for what? We create them all for nothing, just self pleasure maybe. But I have righted myself again and I feel amazing. The best ive felt in months, possibly a year. I've put on 15 pounds in the last couple of months because I've righted myself and worked on what I wanted for myself physically, mentally, emotionally, and athletically. I know I'm still only a boy (a young man if want to consider)of just the ripe age of 17 but I truly feel I am that way, (cold and brutally honest.) heck I enjoy hanging out with my dad and his friends, even older men because they have so much to teach in their everyday words. Or their old stories they may tell. And I feel I have an edge on many kids my age because of this. And just browsing my profile here on you tube I found this video, I was intrigued because I to k we the power of silence and I wanted to how you would describe it. And you sir described the exact way I have thought it for a very long time.

Elliot is simply brilliant! ... "You need to trust yourself" = going into yourself. That´s the key to handling every situation in your life. Thought about this for a long time, but never really realized it... and the problem with motivation is ...that it fades ;/ It fades away, and the brain forgets words, so therefore it is so important that we find new ways to explain the same good mechanisms in life. This is important for two reasons: 1) So the mind doesn´t get bored of hearing/reading the same things over and over again (for instance watching this video as a daily ritual...would probably get kinda boring after a 100 times)... and 2) To keep feeding the same message to the brain through different words and visual techniques. This is also the reason why Elliot has made all these hundreds of videos ;) Thank you so much, Elliot! :D

Info: Humans have been around for 200,000 years. You are correct about silence. Along with birth defects, corrected and over-came, I had 10% hearing till the second grade, no one knew until a teacher told my parents. The thing is that because of this I had learned to be a Listener and to listen and observed the whole world. This has gotten me in trouble over the years being labled lazy, day dreamer and such but because of this, after gained full stronger hearing, I am more observant and understanding having true compassion for other's situation. So silience, although not commonly valued, is a great gift. More people should just be quiet and listen. Good Point!

I've experienced same as questioner. I swear by the teachings of Eckhart Tolle. Nothing else required! Shocking I say that because I used to collect dozens of self help books and digest them all like you Elliot. The silence if you pay attention to it, also makes the mind shut up and the ego subsides or we cld say we get out of our own way! Then we are more our self or of God essence than when we were identified by the voice in the head (the ego). We are the one who is aware of the voice.

Find the route of the cause, Losing the route and it will start becoming a sickness. I have had a lot of time with self reflection. I had many problems such as anger. I found the root of that anger and pulled it out of me. I then began to allow my mind to be pervaded with love and understanding for everyone. Many have problems and if we do not try to understand. This is where harassment comes in. I personally loved this video and understand much of it. I used to go insane in silence. Now it can be bliss if I want.

meditation is incredibly powerful and has been practiced for thousands of years. that's basically what we are talking about here: paying less attention to the outside world, and allowing us to search ourselves and ask ourselves the questions that need answers. and then we act and grow stronger. you don't have to be sitting cross-legged in a quiet room with incense. take a walk and just let your mind go. let the stream of consciousness happen on its own, and eventually you'll start getting there

Instead of taking time to ourselves to relax and think, we push ourselves to fit in, we bully others out of insecurity, we put up walls in fear of confrontation, we avoid our true selves because it's easier to go on social media and distract ourselves, or to go out everyweekend with our friends, we all struggle with this lack of considence

Don't hate me for this but am I the only one that thinks we need to stop trying to find more ways of helping humanity and should focus on more ways to extend our further well being into future years. Like if we keep "helping/healing" others then we will begin to overpopulate the earth and so doctors are only helping destroy the future... In the long run the ones that helped save a human are the ones that helped begin earths demise. We were made to become sick and die , in other words let nature take its course.

I deeply enjoy solitude. I love going out to row alone in a single. Waking up before dawn to go rowing. Being out on water as perfect as a sheet of glass while the rest of the world is still asleep. Watching the sunrise as your pushing yourself to your limit, transferring every ounce of power you have into the water with the grace of a zen master and ferocity of a green beret. Ain't nothing like it!

I was thinking really deeply about what you say here and it hit me! For me my mind becomes the most silent when I use my talent, drawing. When I shut everything off and all I have is the pen and the page the deep emotional issues come up, and literally out, and I hear them no more.

I'm very introverted so I can totally relate to this. Silence is a beautiful thing. Solitude is where I'm at peace. It's where I can access my deep thoughts and emotions and also restore my sense of self. I will argue that as you go out into the world, you begin to lose your sense of self. You need to set aside some time in solitude to restore that identity.

It's a good kind of crazy. We need only look internally to find the answer to our life's options. You don't need anyone else. However that can bring you down sometimes, as we are naturally social animals.

Very true, I find that our greatest potential skills and achievements lie within the Heart and Balls as Elliott would say. You have just got to find them, which is something I've been doing for the last 8 years. And I have too many other people influencing my path. Elliot says "The whole world is giving you fuckin advice" and that's why he "invites" you to try out his perspective.

Good idea, it was interesting talking to you. I hope one day you find your strongest version of yourself my friend, and never give up. Once enough of us get to our strongest version, then we can help inspire others and the rest of the human race. Good luck.

Good man, it's good to hear you have goals. I can't bring myself to fully follow Elliott and his teachings because I feel like i'm forsaking my own path. It's also likley that he doesn't know you or I exist and I have never met the guy, so here's what I do. I take someone's idea, look at it, analyse it. Then reject it if it is negative. If it is positive I either chose to neglect it and learn, or accept and embrace. More often than not, I'm embracing every thing that Elliot says. But I won't instil this, until I meet him one day.

Thanks for uploading this Elliot. There's a zazen buddhist center just down the road and I've been contemplating attending a session. The reason for this is that I always feel as though I'm a cynical, conceded asshole who tries to look down upon people simply because I am not good enough. However, I need to face that person that I am, and tear them out. If silence is the only way, then it's what must be done.

Life is simply crazy. There is no right solution or combination of methods to satisfy the "human condition." I have personally experimented with several methods of discovering answers everything from academia, social interaction, isolation, religion, music, art, athletics, food, traveling, and romantic endeavors. However, through all of these experiences isolation has been the most comforting. In the end, everything that we as people tend to engage in relates to the principle of survival because suicide is something the mind refuses to comprehend.

It's not god speaking to you it's you speaking to yourself, you contradicted yourself by saying that when nobody is there to talk to you, you are forced to talk to yourself. Then you turned around and said it's the voice of god, unless I'm missing something and it's a religious thing where everybody has their own personal god, this didn't make much sense. Emerson says that silence is the only way to listen to your own thoughts and I agree which is why everyone should dedicate just a small period of time to think to themselves. My favorite time is when I wake up on a weekend, fully rested yet still in that sleeping phase and I just let my mind wonder. That's the type of silence that will benefit you

It depends how you define god. From what I can tell of Elliotts videos he defines god as some kind of superior force or energi that sometimes controls us and our decisions.

depends on what religion youre talking about, in Christianity on the day of Pentecost the holy spirit was given to believers. The moment a person places their faith in Jesus as the only hope for forgiveness they are given the Holy spirit, which is God living in each believer. lol believe it or don't but that's what it says so yeah technically everyone does have their "own personal god" in Christianity. I totally know that feeling right after waking up its my favorite as well

It's not religion, it's God. Religion is fake, God is real. God is in all of us, whether you believe this or not. You already know everything, but you're slowly uncovering it each day with the hardships of life. I used to not believe in God much, and then that all changed when I made a commitment. Pursuing God and Truth with all your heart is the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but the most rewarding. It's not even a less-traveled path, it's a non-existant path that you must carve on your own, where no one else may follow, but all are going towards the same direction, yet take a different route. I have just discovered Ellitott's videos recently, and everything he talks about comes from Truth, with a capital T. I see those moments when he looks down and words just flow out of him, that right there, that's his heart and spirit, his energy flowing out of him in order to give to us. Once you commit to the journey, seeing these kinds of things becomes normal. You understand different key concepts, such as silence. It is so abstract that only one who has experienced the concepts truly knows them, but some are better at communicating into words what they mean.

This is absolutely true. As it says in the opening lines of Patangali's famous Yoga Sutras, "When the mind is still and the emotions are brought under control, then begins the Path Supreme." Only a still mind can see clearly, as only still waters reflect the world clearly.

I'm very tuned into what you're saying here, after a torn bicep tendon and surgery I was out of work for months, so I stayed mostly in the woods and found that I can only feel my true self when in complete silence and solitude. Now honestly I wouldn't mind living like that for a very long time but I also have shit I want to do while alive.
