Driving them "right" really does help a lot with the shudder in my experience. I rarely had issues with shuttering until it just stopped shifting correctly with about 80k miles on the clutches because of fork issues. And that was with around 4k miles of towing 1-3klbs in there which the transmission didn't seem to particularly enjoy (the rest of the car handled it great though).

They stopped using it in Australia in mid 2015 when the Focus facelift came in. They went to a conventional torque converter trans mated to the 1.5 EcoBoom engine 🤣

Their biggest mistake, imo, was trying to fool the buying public by making it feel like a slushbox. Too slow upshifts, and staying clutches engaged when slowing down has to be hell on clutches.

Good Afternoon, Ben. Thanks so much for posting these most very helpful videos. My wife's '15 Focus (43,000 miles) this afternoon: Backed out of parking space normally. Shifted into D, but tranny went into neutral and stayed there while shifting into all gears. Shifted into P, then back to drive and functioned normally coming home. A similar thing has happened 1 or 2 times some time ago, but did not repeat until now. Clutches were done under warranty several times. What is likely happening? Warranty? Thanks, Ben.

@131R30 Hi! If there's no codes, you can buy 2 new clutch actuators to try first. Otherwise it's probably the tcm. Tcm is warranty so if you have a p0902 code I'd let ford diagnose it for the tcm. Here's the actuators. And I have a video replacing them www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-actuator-asy-clutc_ae8z-7c604-a.html

Hey again Ben ive recently noticed a clunk/knock noise when taking off from a complete stop as well as sometimes when accelerating quickly the gearbox holding a gear at a certain point but not shifting when it should as well as a hesitation which never use to be present. Im not sure if the noise is gearbox related, have you got any ideas? Thanks in advance

I just bought a 2014 fiesta automatic transmission. It stutters when shifting to second gear. But one it gets up to speed it shifts through the higher gears okay. And downshift are good. I am wondering what might be wrong with it.

@orrinjonesjr hi, sounds like the typical clutch shudder. That's something you can live with. Accelerating full throttle on highway on ramps can mitigate shudder

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles Thanks for letting me know. The thing is I want to rent it out on Turo but that might cause customers to give low ratings

I really feel like the DPS6 must be better suited to the lighter weight Fiesta. (Around 300lbs lighter, give or take.) M-Sport has been known to call the Focus of the 20-teens, the "fat sister of the Fiesta".

@@DetroitMicroSound yeah! It had fewer issues in the fiesta

I've bought and fixed many shuddering Fiestas. No different. The thing that really killed this trans was the leaky oil seals in early cars, and when they went to fix that, all they did was put an oil seal in and a new clutch while retaining the Forks and bearing. Those are the main things that cause issues (outside of TCM)

Just another reason why I will no longer buy Ford products, they have a history of ignoring known defects of every kind which is why they have been the most recalled brand for the past four(!) years.
